This is more or less the conclusion Beige Frequency came to in his Quinton rundown; he thought he could be a TGWT orbiter (if not full on legitimate member of) and then the wheels fell off of it. The he saw that The Breadtubers had a similar approach with a similarly dedicated audience, and tried doing that, until he realized he wasn't the "academic" he needed to be to get anywhere with that, or as funny or witty as some of the lower-tier ones can get away with being.

Imagine having a crazy dream job and then getting kind-of-sort-of within reach of getting in on it, and then suddenly the entire "field", as it were, falls apart and you're just sitting there with your dick in your hand looking around seeing how you can salvage it. That's what happened to him, and that's a heavy blow to someone that clearly wasn't anything close to being all there to begin with.

Yes and it dosent help that he burnt every bridge he came across. He really should have tried and networked with as many YouTubers epically the d list ones because you never know which ones coattails you could ride to fame. I think if he stuck with the commentary video like he was doing he might have been able to get in on a podcast or similar and kept expanding his audience and content. Sadly Quinton can't see 3 steps in front of him.

Quinton seems like the kind of guy who thinks "For every door that closes, another opens" is legitimate meaningful advice and not a pithy pick-me-up you tell to your friend who just got turned down for a job. He thought slamming doors in his "problematic" former associates'/friends' faces meant the coveted BreadTuber door would open for him, but that's just not the case; now he's pissed off most of the people who would've given him the time of day instead of just seeing him as another unimportant leech like ContraPoints and his ilk surely do. Unfortunately I doubt his fat hairy brain will ever comprehend that his decline in relevancy and near universally disliked status is one hundred percent his own fault.

He knows is his fault only thats why he prefers people telling him that he sucks to fed to his victim complex rather than constructive criticism, specially if it comes from people he deems as inferior to him being the dreaded guppies or some rando on Reddit or Twitter.

I suppose the difference is semantic; he knows it's a result of his actions, but instead of recognizing he's the one at fault he considers himself to be the victimised party. It's sad, really; I don't know why some people enjoy pretending to be victims instead of improving themselves.

Kind of funny that an overweight, neckbearded man who's probably not seen a vagina in decades thinks anyone who points out his flaws is "inferior". He's like a tiny MovieBob.

However simple the solution to Quinton's situation might be, it won't matter because he will likely never admit that there is a problem. Where many YouTube lolcows have dug themselves into holes they can't easily escape from, there really isn't anything stopping Quinton from going back to his old personality and style of content, however, as long as he insists that anyone criticizing him are just alt-right trolls and Nazis he will simply remain convinced that he is on the right path.

His old tweet of "If you're a YouTuber and nazis don't hate you, you're doing something wrong", perfectly explains his relationship with the people criticizing him and why he won't take their words to heart.

Quinton is one of those lolcows who is frustratingly close to NOT being a lolcow, and yet chooses to lean further into his cowish tendencies whenever he gets the chance.

A part of me wishes he could just read this thread with an open mind and see that what we're talking about here is practical advice that could salvage his career and stop his channel from stagnation.

There are so many cows that would materially benefit from going into threads here and saying "Ok, what should I do differently?" Quinton is one of those. There are simple ways to improve his production value, his content, his professional networking and his public persona that I think most people in this thread would be happy to give advice about if asked, myself included.

But Quinton has intentionally shut himself off from people who could earnestly help him turn things around because Farms has been somehow labelled as an alt-right nazi haven full of CHUDs, and Quinton refuses to internalize the fact that he will NEVER be accepted by the sort of people who would crucify him for engaging with the so-called opposition.

Woke Blue Muslim Queen nailed the analysis on him just seeking community. The sad thing is, he had it and didn't appreciate it. There was a time early in his commentary channel career that he had the chance to network effectively with H3H3, Internet Comment Etiquette, Nerd City, Internet Historian, The Right Opinion, and quite a few of the other heavy hitters in the commentary community. Pretty sure Justin Whang and WavyWebSurf showed some interest when he started Fallen Titans as well. And he thought he could trade that upwards for inclusion in the elites of breadtube.

The real nail in the coffin for Quinton was his vidcon mea culpa about leaving the skeptic / commentary community. "They all looked like me", as he said. Who cares what they looked like Quinton. You slammed the door on them, and you didn't get a damn thing in return for your public flagellation. Contra still doesn't know who you are. Your friendship with Jenny Nicholson never amounted to anything beyond some mutual pinned comments. You were never brought into the ex-Channel-Awesome inner clique.

I still don't think it's too late for Quinton to turn it around, but I also don't think he will. His ego and self-righteousness grew beyond his talent and maturity, and now he's lost at sea. Quinton is such a valuable case study in "get woke go broke", and it's unfortunate that case study had to come at the expense of a once-promising channel.

I think it says something when most people on this thread used to watch Q and even though you see tons of jokes at his expense (which he also does on the regular) most people here don't harbor any ill will against him and if anything want him to at least be happy with his own choices. Quinton was perceived as a "traitor" because he became so antagonistic towards the greater community for no ther reason than being antagonistic and the reason it became as big as it did was because many youtubers grew to see him as a "friend", another capital sin of the YT community.

I will give Quinton credit on something, he did manage to do the NFKRZ/Bobby Burns approach of purging your audience to only leave those that like you over your content and has manage to prove in the proccess that at least half his sub base does like him and most people that care who he is to this day pity him to a greater extent.

He will never bounce back and all he can hope to do is not become a proper lolcow and you know what, he should be grateful. When you see the amount of talented youtubers that don't even reach 100k subs you realize that his arc was doomed to fail. Easy come, easy go. The amount of effort you put into videos doesn't matter if you make videos on nicher subjects like webcomics, ARGs or tabletop games, you can make a great channel out of that but is undeniable that you will never reach the levels of audience commentary or movie reviewing channels make and even then you need to either tackle popular stuff or something with the potential to be popular and balance it out with many other intangibles like personality and meaning. Motherfucker made it against all odds though ruthlessly spamming himself on other channels and appealing to the lowest common denominator by his own admission. He should be happy that he still is over 300k and people, even by mockery, still remember him. Arguably better content creators don't get that, they have normie jobs, sustain YT as a hobby/creative outlet and only get mentioned by others they are actual friends with.

All in all Quinton is doomed by his indecision. He wanted to be popular but didn't work for that. He wanted to be a breadtuber but didn't up his production value neither bothered to read books to make sense of his word salads. He is too scared to commit to his own line of essay shitpost because he realized it doesn't bring the money. Big Joel, on the same level of spergery, is at least commited to make video essays that read and sound like shitpost and being an unlikeable smug half-human half-weasel hybrid. Quinton on the other hand doesn't like the idea of being disliked, he wants to be the friend of the popular kids while shittallking them behind their backs. Quinton Kyle Hoover, the man that allowed a quarter life crisis destroy his biggest accomplishment, a tragedy on the level of the greatest works in Wattpad. Wonder at this point if he is going to insert somebody into his formula that would become the Garfield of his Jon Arbuckle or he will continue on a vibe that would require a Sonichu/Lasagna Cat parody to account his greatest hits.

The real kicker is The Right Opinion wasn't a heavy hitter when Quinton appeared in his video. Quinton was larger by far with around 300K subs, while TRO had less than 100K back then. Now TRO has over 600K subs, while Quinton has remained static around 300K. Alienating TRO was bad enough, but Quinton also did it before he could have benefitted from their friendship.

God damn, this is mesmerizing. I can't describe what is wrong with his face in this picture. The best I can say is that the lighting does him no favors. Or he got the Belle palsy.

And the tubby custard pink shirt does no favors.
Not to mention how the background of Useless nerd crap (and the fucking creepy sex doll) only highlights how pathetic he has become. Why does every fucker with a camera insist on doing this? This crap makes you look like a fucking loser.

Shit, even Jerma (a content creator I actually like) was rightfully shamed for showing off a bit of the shelf he was prepping for pointless nerd crap in the background of his stream. Its clear audiences don't like this, or at least have grown sick of this shit being in the background. So why does every mother fucker insist on doing it?

To show how totally not a poser they are with all the cool nerd swag they received and how lolrandom they are with their wacky, quirky background nerd stuff.

To be honest I think it's mainly there to legitimise the reviewer as a voice of authority, like how movies made the the smart nerd have shelves of hard literature. It's like a nice background to establish a proffessional tone. It also serves as a nice way to handle buyer's remorse for all the expensive stuff "nerd-culture" reviewers buy.
Problem is the shelves are often littered with shit that doesn't pertain to the topic of the video. Often, the background objects are eye-catching, which leads to distractions in the video because the viewer isn't looking at the reviewer. Book spines are more subdued, thus don't usually take away from the atmosphere of what they are featured in.

It could at least work if the shit on the shelves is related to the videos (a Warhammer Youtuber having shelves of Warhammer minis behind him in the shot would make sense, for example) or if it was organized and didn't look like absolute shit. You can be a pathetic manchild and own a bunch of plastic crap, but at least take care of it; Quinton's shelves not only look like he couldn't afford a full bookshelf at Walmart and had to settle for the short one, but they are PACKED with cheap disorganised garbage. It's a bunch of trash he probably bought as a kid (or worse, bought specifically to fill this shelf for his videos) that never relates to the topic he's discussing and is placed haphazardly with no regard to aesthetics. No, Quinton, five different $10 Bumblebee action figures jammed onto a shelf doesn't make you look cool. It makes you look like you never moved out of your parents' house.

Every time I see someone with a Wall of Crap behind them on YouTube I always think of the RedLetterMedia Nerd Crew set, and it depresses me that it isn't even that effective of a parody because it's less absurd than what it's parodying.

@semiurge is also completely right in that Quinton is barely a lolcow, but ωσкє вℓυє мυѕℓιм qυєєη is absolutely right that most of us used to watch Quinton and we just want him to be honest to himself and stop trying to be this person he really isn't. He didn't exactly create the greatest content ever seen, but I will admit I was enjoying his content before he did his Trump rant and took a shot at JonTron. Once these happened back-to-back, I knew where his content was going to go. Being right about that sucked, but it was too apparent what was going to be shoved in his videos and where he was going to go personally.

The only aspect of his downfall that is enjoyable is how easily it could've been avoided. He was gaining subscribers natuarlly with his content, was producing videos that anybody could've enjoyed, and he was (or at the very least very good at) showing off that he genuinely had enjoyment or cared about the topic he was talking about. But once he felt the need to condemn "bad people" and talk about the perceived injustices in the world in his videos about silly little E-celebs was the second everybody (minus his "true fans") checked out.

A very minor thing that has bothered me about Q is how he sometimes calls himself geek. This must be reading too much into it but I feel he choose that term because sounds more offical than calling himself nerd and probably personal shit. Pretty minor thing but in videos like Here Lies Rags and Fallen Titans: Creepypasta there's something about the way he says it that rubs me the wrong way, like is a way to "punch up" if that makes any sense.

Considering the timeline (taking How Garfield Lost It's Magic as a reference) I think there's a good deal of truth that Q bought that shelf at Walmart to kill two birds with one stone. I can see it going that he told his parents about wanting the Geek Wall but they told him that he didn't need a bigger shelf for that so they settled for this abomination. As of aesthetics, considering most of them are Garfield and Bumblebee gets really distracting; adding Bill (the sexdoll) it seems like he is doing the background more entertaining than himself on purpose.

Quinton is an awful critic but a good reviewer if that makes any sense. He doesn't know jackshit about what makes a film good but when he cares about something he has an autistic degree of passion about it.
His downfall is also funnier when you harbor how he grew an ego but not self esteem, so he constantly delivers these awkward moments of self depricating humor that are meant to own the haters like all the jokes he makes about looking like The Quartering and even went to call him Evil Quinton or the glorious ad speech for Raid: Shadow Legends. Watching him these days is like watching a guy that goes shittalking before something big and says he is going to fail in purpose with a shit eating grin.

My game theory on this is that Quinton thinks, possibly because it was implied by one of his BreadTuber idols at some point, that "nerd" = "angry misogynist gamer man" while "geek" = "cool friendly guy who likes niche things". In his never-ending quest to become as phenomenally inoffensive (and subsequently uninteresting) as humanly possible, he probably decided that calling himself a "nerd" was unacceptable.

It's kind of funny he self labels as a "geek" because I've always considered that term to be far more irritating and patronizing than "nerd". It sounds very childish to me.

Ok, but unironically.
