Plagued /r/TNOmod and the Reddit HOI4 modding community - When a subreddit for a video game mod turns to utter insanity

...historically incompetent and horrible people...
This is what I take issue with the most, TNO is alt-history you go in knowing that some shit is going to be contrived to make the setting work and how TNO does that is by going "everyone was way more retarded than the Nazis". It might've been rewritten but what was canon for how Britain fell was that the BEF got destroyed, 'the British fleet was trapped in the Mediterranean' and then at some point Britain got Sealion'ed and fell, when you're dealing with such gigabrains on the Allied side sure I can buy that somehow Himmler built up a world wide spy network.

They could still make the lore work by having the Germans win in North Africa which could lead to the Axis locking down the Med and freeing up the Italian navy(which the British were worried about at the time) to aid the Germans with Operation Sea Lion, that would have definitely have been a better explanation than what they did.

The railroaded toozer mod Kalterkrieg decided to remove one of the few interesting aspects of it's otherwise seemingly boring setting.
Divided Italy is no more.

It's so annoying when hoi4 cold war alt hist mods present something that is kind of interesting in a way that far separates there version of a nation from ours only to drop it to make the mod seem more boring.

Speaking of a KalterKrieg, this will be a trivia question for you all. Who coined the term 'Cold War' and what did it originally meant in it's original context?
I'll give you a hint it was not Churchill, Truman, nor Stalin and it did not exactly originally mean a time period where two or more opposing ideological political blocks compete against each other on the world stage like what all hoi4 mods think either.

Rather comically I am now seeing local rank-and-file TNO devs just saying a massive "FUCK YOU" to the rest of the team by making a submod with the goal of demanding its inclusion into the mod in the near future.
What's this refer to? I know about the Fallen Lion one, but is there another? Probably a better way to get updates out, frankly.

General sentiment dev-wise, some burn out due to ass-hat bureaucracy towards designs even before they even begin work on their content.

Hyperborea/Agartha shitposting didnt die down.
Surely so. In this case, though, it seems like they ran out of neuron juice.

As for Hyperborea posting, that's easily parked between the categories of banality and radicalism I mentioned. It is something coming from a minority of people who post in obvious irony, to the point it can't even serve as the "persuasive" irony some are always warning about. It is something some will jokingly post, and very few actually believe. It is an annoyance. It is also inevitable. The TNO team does enough by not embracing it, and by actively preserving, if they are actively preserving at all, the identity of post-war Nazis and Burgundian ideologues as cancerous. The only truly effective way to make their aesthetics die down is to make the base game duller, so that its themes are less inviting, and so the basis for people to project their nonsense onto them smaller. But at that point, why make a mod? Expansion, not diminishment, is what should follow after its original release. Is the TNO's team idea of refinement so negative, that the only way to make things better, is to make them lesser?

I think the bitter part of it is that I wouldn't entirely mind some of these changes if they were actually releasing shit. Now, removing Burgundy entirely (which is to be fair just speculation) would be pretty inexcusable, but reworking it? Well, I'll miss the bond villain shit and do think it should be kept to an extent, but if they'd like to focus more on esotericism and the SS's power base within Germany, fine. I'll give it a shot.

But will they? Fuck no, Himmler's is in conceptual hell until a fucking submod does him and then craters post-demo.

I don't mind the endless reworks to all four fuhrers if it actually results in meaningful, interesting content. Going by all the toozers, they've clearly done plenty of research into aspects of Nazi politics and internal thought that without a doubt go far deeper than Panzer's era ever did. Socrev, orthodoxy, internal reformists, partification? It sounds badass! I doubt there will ever be a more in-depth alt his look at hypothetical peacetime NSDAP governance (outside the most autistically obscure and boring timeline threads) than what they're supposedly doing.

Maybe the Speer and Bormann revamps will be out by the time HOI5 has obliterated this community. Shame about the other two, though, they're never happening.

In theory, there are few game releases that excite me more than Penelope's Web. It sounds like a hoot! I've been trawling through the absurdly poorly organized teasers and QnAs and such, and it all sounds like an interesting time. If Atlantropa really had to die for this, fine, I'm super into the Greco-Turkish People's Union, the Duces and General Secretaries, the actual advent of French content. It sounds great!

Wait, I'm getting a call that the guy talking in these Turkey teasers has apparently been banned from the server, his passionate work most certainly thrice-reworked already, and there isn't even the beginnings of a release quarter for Italy. È finita. PW è caduto. Migliaia devono tooz.

And so on, and so forth. I'm sure making the Great Asian War shitty (yes, it'll only be the western insurrection version at best, it's been stated by devs) will give the next 3 months of sporadic Manchuria toozers and 2 years of silence the context they needs. No more dev streams, though!

They pulled off a decent coup with Guangdong, but given the atmosphere I've seen on the subreddit and around, it won't bode well if a couple years of outsourced UK and Ukraine are the only other things this mod does before next summer. All signs point to a complete bureaucratic nightmare, ever-shifting visions, and a handful of team leads most interested in monthly announcement post struggle sessions.

Wasn't this mod supposed to release back in June?

Doublepost, but this fucking thing was supposed to release in December. It still mystifies me how they could set such a target and continue to miss it eight months later after saying they were 'extremely close'. It feels absurd even by HOI4 mod standards, but then it's a HOI4 mod and there are no standards. I remember reading about KRG close to half a decade ago, and so was amazed to see it in this baffling state after paying no attention for a couple years. Gutting anything interesting about Italy (You can't have a Papal State with the potential to become a Roman Republic because.... you just can't, okay?!!) instead of actually releasing what should reasonably be expected to have been completed by now is no surprise.
I saw the KR server too shouting it out ("is back"), namely their absurd recent progress report that's about skeleton content.

The usual complaint is "ass-hat lore-munching bureaucratic niggerfaggots running up in my shit", as testified by the local juggalo holdout in the TNO team. I think its more of a hyperactive neuron activation moment than an absence thereof since "fuck it do it anyway" doesnt require much neuron juice to say. Fighting over what direction Himmler's chair was facing in relation to the north pole overexaggeration, though absurd arguments regarding LORE were up and about takes a lot.

After Krasnacht died it just seems that Kaiserreich sequel mods are doomed to fail. It also seems that there hasn't been a good new mod in at least a few years, TFR is supposedly coming out this year but seeing as it is already August I highly doubt it.

@under_scores is actually pointing out something rather unique to TNO development: skeletonization. Because playable content has been ostensibly culled and indefinitely postponed, the TNO team has diverted an amazing amount of time to making better news events about South American dictators, Middle Eastern border changes, and electoral victories in bumfuck nowhere.

I don't think there are any other mods producing as much skeleton content as TNO is, and I don't think it's solely because TNO has a very large development team - I think it's also because, structurally, the mod has set itself up to produce skeleton content as proof of life.

Beats me, 0x. Most of us are outsiders to the dev process. I piece together TNO's condition by observing its goals and extant content changing over time. There is a part of understanding TNO that requires a proximity to the devs and their hubs that I cannot have.

Natural consequence of letting your mod be 70% writers, 29% artists, 1% programmers. By the end of this year Burgundy will be totally gone, Ukraine will be kicked down the can because they need to remove the ebil OUN and put holesum commie leaders only available, and fuck it they might as well remove Dirlewanger and Samara as well.

What to expect from a mod that prioritizes story-telling (regardless of the story's quality) over gameplay so much it's called a visual novel in HOI4?
Ukraine will be kicked down the can because they need to remove the ebil OUN
Shit, could've sworn OUN/UPA were considered holesum ever since February 2022

I have no idea but it looks hella fun.

>"Contact the Masons" with a fucking Bob the Builder icon
>"Make CIA agents glow"
>"Activate 5g Pylons"
>"Adrenochrome farms"
>"Reddit meme Economy"
>Keanu Reeves Goebbels
>"The Party Van"
>"McDonald's Death Squads"

It just keeps going. It looks like a absolute meme.

I especially like that last one, though in this case it'd be like removing a plank and saying "the plank will be replaced in a future rework of the ship".
I am so fucking glad I got permabanned for abelist statements or some shit a few months after this mod got released. Can't imagine what it's like having so much faith in this mod and seeing this shit keep happening.
