So I've been playing around three years of the Mexicontent. This shit is Guangdong on 1980s soviet athlete level of steroids.
You remember that Guangdong has too many events too close together? Try every focus having a 4-paragraphs-long event associated with it, as well as multiple event chains happening on the background. Was managing the faction's influence on the states of Guangdong too distracting? Try having to click on 4 different categories of decisions so that "the economy" works properly.
And the damn minigames are also explained and designed in the most convoluted way possible. Once I finish this round, I will post the screenshots of this slog
Started to follow this again on the 4chan thread because I saw that they had updated it and someone made a very apt comparison with the old "Denmark GUI" meme and how this is even worse since it's several full-screen menus peppered with filler content. I also don't think just comparing it to Guangdong fully paints the picture. I could put up with a lot of that because it was a fun setting. "Guangdong on steroids" could be interesting if it had an good theme. This is Guangdong on steroids but with Latin American political squabbling and the slow reformation of an agricultural economy. I'm more of a Kaiserreich player so my first thought was to their Mexico rework from several years ago where the big change was that the tag could no longer invade the US in the ACW like before and that most games just had you sit around and do focuses for several years. But at least KR has the Weltkrieg to fall back on.

I don't get why Mexico in TrooNO couldn't get a cool civil war that could be a fun proxy war playground. A civil war on America's border would be a field day for the Japs and Krauts to fuck around in much like how the Americans can intervene on civil wars that border their respective turfs (aka Southeast Asia/Oceania and the Middle East/Africa respectively).
You even have the Chicano movement in the 1960s stateside (since TrooNO more or less imports the same IRL 1960s cultural zeitgeist despite the radically different circumstances anyways) that could have some cool ideas. Like a bunch of Chicanos crossing the border and doing their Aztlan LARP or Mexican cartels forming early to profit off the chaos. Then of course banditry happening on the border which means that the mutts would have to roll-back on their foreign excursions to focus at home.
And yes you can still have stronger LATAM nations South of Mexico like Cuba, Brazil, Argentina, etc. possibly having ideas of their own while they watch and the OFN actually having to fulfill their obligation and help out Uncle Sam for once.
Of course ideal scenario would be for America to prevent this entire ordeal from happening.
There. I came up with a vastly more fun and interesting idea than the TrooNO devs ever did.
Got a link for that? Sounds funny to read lmao. What even does Micronesia have? Out of all the Pacific Island nations and it isn't New Zealand or Australia?
turns out it wasnt micronesoa but fiji, basically the same thing anyways. iraq does have content now though
. i remember on the MD reddit someone asking why the devs gave content to fiji first over iraq and some dev said 'we add content to nations we find interesting first and we're doing it for free so dont tell us what to do' like holy shit faggot, doing this for free doesnt give you the excuse to do the most retarded shit ever

That's the issue with every country in TNO, first they bombard you with content and then the last 5 years are literally empty. It's also a shame that most of the mechanics are completely useless, like "Battle for Man" in UK or Ukrainian war gui, the only ones that matter are those that determine your country's politics and they're quite rare.

I think that's a great idea. The full chart has leaked earlier and suggests that something like that might happen through a second Mexican revolution. I can only guess what it'd be about but knowing how action-packed this release was I'd expect an internal affair resolved via menus while Japan and Germany passively respect America's sphere of influence out of fear of making the Cold War go nuclear.
... Only this was a few months before Pence got known as the laughing stock who more or less pussied out of Trump's good graces. See, before 2021 your average normie thought Pence was the 'more fundamentalist' conservative over Trump before that facade more or less imploded on itself since Jan 6.
The progressive hysteria over Pence was so baffling.
Pence was probably the most presidential GOP leader in any position of power in recent history. Trump threw a gigantic narcissistic tantrum over something that even if it was true he couldn't fix by screaming "STOP DA STEAL", and humble, honest Mikey P was there to peacefully ensure that Ice Cream Man got a smooth transition of power. That alone would garner him some sympathy in a normal society as a guy who's willing to "side" with a political rival who wasn't going to give him SHIT in exchange for his help for the sake of the country, but current day America is anything but normal so the GOP just wanted to hang him, and progressives probably still employ doublethink to paint Pence as a patient theocrat with a long-term plan for the US.
Adults writing that kind of idiocy should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. That's the level of political science you could expect from either teenaged yours truly or Patrick S. Tomlinson.

Literally, the only thing Fiji has ever brought to the global cultural zeitgeist is that 1: their natives are literally the stereotype of savage island cannibals and 2: they're now like 50% pajeets because the British (do I need to explain)? 3: became the name inspiration for an overpriced brand of water that @CIA Nigger (formerly Gligar13vids) used to shill.
Its basically a thing at this point they are trying to recreate Victoria 2 in HOI4. Even the spheres thing was mentioned by Panzer to be a thing they wanted to mimic the spheres from Victoria 2. The economy system also lags the game to all hell from behind the scenes. So much so they put minesweeper as a gui in the game that they recommend you play as you wait for events to fire.

This is becoming an increasing thing since saw it on the TNO and KR subreddits too. Where fans turn into "Leave the multi billion dollar company alone!" when it comes to this shit and that they are giving their free time so you cant criticze shit. Even TNO is this ass. Every post you make goes through moderators in the sense that it won't even appear until a janny approves it. For a mod that hates authoritarianism they run their sub like a police state.
This man is our President. His Excellency, Adolfo López Mateos. He was elected in 1958, and is a moderate man with an slightly pro-japanese stance, at game start he's halfway throught his presidency, and is currently in Australia doing a diplomatic visit. We start off with some changes. The Hawaiian Missile Crisis is toast, and has been replaced by the Aleutian Crisis. Being brief, a jap spy plane crashed in the Aleutian Islands, and its pilot has been captured by the americans. We have to mediate that and find a solution.
Meanwhile, our Secretary of the Interior, Gustavo Díaz Ordaz (one of our possible successors and IRL President of Mexico from 1964 until 1970) is trying to tard wrangle the americans and the japs in Mateos' abscence.
The man here is Raúl Salinas Lozano, Secretary of Industry and Commerce, very pro-japanese, and my pick for this run. Ordaz has decided that Mexico will mediate the de-escaltion of the crisis, having done so without Mateos' input.
The japs won't accept Ordaz's plan, so Mateos scrambles a more pro-japanese solution, which is enough to satisfy the americans.
And thus, Mateos saves the world.
After returning from his trip, Mateos has lost almost all trust that he had on Ordaz, opening the battle for the presidency (more on that later).
This is the PRI UI, which cannot be directly influenced, with the lines only changing due to events, focuses, or decisions tied to certain events/crisis. So you cannot do this like with Guandong's states, where you picked a region and chose to increase your control over it.
Mateos' intial focus tree is this one. He currently is in a bid, like IRL, to try and make Mexico City the host of the 1968 Olympics, and depending on whether we go with Ordaz/Madrazo, or with Salinas, we will try to court the americans or the japanese to support us, respectively.
This is the pro-jap focus tree.
As we can see here, the PRI is corrupt like all hell, which is why an opposition party, the PAN, is currently gaining strenght (which amounts to nothing, as Mexico is a one-party state and the PAN cannot gain enough support to change that in the 4 year timeframe)
This is Miguel Alemán, previous President, who mostly keeps to the sidelines. He was a corporatist and very pro-industrialization, which led to the Mexican Miracle, but also to lots of corruption.
Mexico is nominally socialist, and thus will try to maintain friendly relationships with Cuba and Venezuela.
Mexico and journalism, name a better duo.
The battle for the presidency is portaryed using the "El Tapado" GUI, we have two picks, with Madrazo becoming a possible pick later if the nationalist and leftists get an average opinion.
This feels like Charlottesville reference.
Mexico is involved in the Puerto Plata invasion, and will try to oust Trujillo using the decisions tab that the US has, so there's not much to say about it apart from the fact that the left and nat can gain more ssupport if we kick Trujillo and support the Caribbean Legion.
Why did I pick Japan, knowing that Yasuda is right around the corner?
Because of this.
And you thought that Guangdong's economy was unrealistic. Speaking of that, this let's talk about Mexico's economic UI.
Every single group of states has a list of proyects that you can do to try and stimulate the economy, quality of life (which is split between rural and urban), agricultural productivity, and lower unemployment. You also have to deal with regional debt, so try to have a positive balance between 1-2% of your national GDP always, and not to over-invest in a region.
If you do well, you get this event.
If you do excellently there's better events, and if you do decently, there's this event.
Events such as this one (who are all tied to the focus tree) will pop, with our pick for presidency being the one with the highest opinion. The key is to balace that with the proposal strenght, 2-3 is good, 4 is excellent, and 5 or more will cause Mateos to see his pick as a sellout, causing his opinion of the left and nat to increase.
A proposal of 5 or more (the best one) gives you this event.
The diary will look like this once we go throught the events.
Once the Yasuda crisis occurs, the Kabuki effect will also happen
The key to winning as Salinas is to keep tension high, lower pact strenght, and swaying the DFS (mexican FBI).
We also have this focus tree for the kabuki. If we picked the japs in the olympic event, the right brach will open, the opposite will happen if we picked the americans.
To sway the factions, you will have to spend PP in this decision tab
Total Technocrat Victory
Once Mateos is in his last year of presidency, he will pick the candidate with the highest opinion.
That will give us this GUI, which is explained in the most stupid way posible. The tl;dr is that every coin there inside the furnace represents "preparation". Once you have 5 prep, you will be able to pull down the lever, which will make it o that you gain 5 of the respective value once you finish one of these focuses. But also every time that you finish one of them, 3 prep from a random furnace will be substracted, no matter if the lever is down or not
Furnaces in action, once I finish a focus, green and white will go up by 5 points. Less than 60 on each by the end of the tree is bad, more than 80 is great.
Once Hitler dies, you get this small event, which explains that Mexico stayed out of the war.
Monkeyface coping.
One more proyect to the fray, the CDMX Metro.
This is the only actual law that you will pass in the run.
The only event that names the synarchist movement. Nat-synd mexican movement with falangist overtures, complete sidelined in the timeline where the fascists/nationalists won WW2.
Future President Raúl Salinas Lozano confirms what we all knew.
Inaguration.
The Mexico experience. Bombarded with events that you don't care about that slow down the run.
Mexico without cartels wouldn't be Mexico
Salinas' Tree.
During your presidency, a doctor's strike will occur. PP sink, nothing new. But you can choose to either manipulate or divide them. I forgot to screenshot the event that marked its ending (I won).
Yeah we aint seeing a TNO2. If this is why it takes a year for 4 years content due to all the slop and minigames they add HOI7 will be out by the time TNO2 is ready. I long for the days of simple KR times. Its never been so Joever.

The worst part is that I cut like 3 different event chains. There's one about a guerrilla group in Guadalajara, another about the PAN in Baja, another one about mexican people doing mexican things (playing football, getting robbed, the tensions with the church, etc.), and another one about japs smuggling drugs into Texas. You literally can't play for five minutes without your screen being chock full of meaningless events
Looking at those screenshots remind me how much of an eyesore the minigames are, and how terrible the UI is that it makes them look worse. Why did these faggots have to ruin HOI4 modding with shitty minigames?

The worst part is that they aren't even all that significant. Yes, the economy grew almost 40% since in 4 years, but why do I care? Guangdong's whole point is making money, and if you mess up enough, you enter a death spiral that ends up with the japs creating a military goverment.
There's no such failstate in Mexico, hell, you don't even get to fix your national spirits. Your army is every bit as shitty as it was in the beggining, your economy is every bit as unstable as it was in the beggining, your goverment is every bit as corrupt as it was in the beggining. Whereas a game start with Guangdong was visibly different from ending Guangdong, Mexico at the start is the exact same thing as Mexico in the beggining. All the effort that went into micromanaging the economy as if this were the Soviet Union should have gone into the 6 years of content that we were robbed of.
P.S. Now that I think about it, the population growth in TNO is extremely small. Mexico starts with her OTL numbers, around 37.5 million the start of 1962, but the end population at the start of 1966 is only 40.5 mil, when it should be 42.7 million. What the hell are they putting in the water?

Funny enough justifies American imperialism and bullying towards Mexico with the Jap part. Though am I the only one who notices TNO Japan is just the CCP of OTL given a fascist coat of paint? People often talk about how TNO lifts the same culture of the 60s into TNO despite the lore and world being radically different but I feel like they take too much from modern day too. Hell in the updates in the future the culture war is supposed to play a bigger part. Unironically if they made a Millennium Dawn mod set in the modern day it would probably do better.

It does feel a lot like it. It's very consumeristic and secular, when it should be the polar opposite. Japs only became this way due to the american occupation killing state shinto, in a world where this doesn't happen, I can only see the religion either fragmenting (due to the fact that it was basically a hodgepodge of various buddhist and shinto strains), or one group getting a hold of it, maybe Kido or Naruhiko. As well as it having a lot more influence on the people overall
The economy system also lags the game to all hell from behind the scenes. So much so they put minesweeper as a gui in the game that they recommend you play as you wait for events to fire.
I still don't get why they added the retarded economic system, the old one worked just fine and did its job of telling you how you were doing economically because "big line go up". Truthfully I never even bothered to figure out how it worked anyway.
You know what would have actually been an interesting mechanic/mini game? How about instead of trying to improve some wetback village, Mexico is solidly pro Japanese and is aiding the Japs smuggling drugs to enrich themselves and destabilize America on behalf of the Japs but if you go too hard or get sloppy it sparks an American invasion.

We talk of better ways to write TNO but I am not against the consuermism. Its very much in line with Eastern culture and IRL Empire of Japan. Rather I think for Japan they should have a BOP. That being of a possible second show restoration. The Kishi idea was not terrible. Just done retarded. It should be that Japan is high on its own victory that it feels it can do no wrong that there is rot in the machine as Zaibatsus vie for power with the actual radicalized retards the Army promoted. As I assume most into map game autism knows how the Japanese wwere retardly autistic even compared to the Nazis. The issue with current Japan is they only focus on the Zaibatsu corporate part that it makes it feel like the CCP and has Japan doing a similar role. Would even be interesting since those types would be more earnest about their pan Asian autism.

Cause that would make interesting content and put warfare into the war game. Goodness we cannot have that. The economics is not too bad. Basically nothing matter but your two bars and you make sure that your spending is less then the money you make since if you overspend the bar goes down and the game forces a stripping away of your civs and mils.

The economics in a HOI4 mod not being bad still means it's bad compared to Vic 2, a nearly fifteen year old game that also does a better job of simulating the realities of equipping and maintaining an army. I'm just grateful that TNO-brainrot in the Vic 2 modding community has largely been contained to the Divergences of Darkness fan fork (you can tell because they used PDM as their economic basis).

The American occupation absolutely changed Japanese cultural standards but it's disingenuous to blame secularization on it. State Shinto already secularized the preexisting Japanese religion by forcibly detaching a millennia of organic Buddhist tradition from it and replacing it with even more state-worship. And even before that it was common for the Japanese to have a very materialistic view of religion; genze riyaku predates Jamestown.

I agree, the very creation of state shinto hurt japanese religiosity deeply, but I'm of the belief that, given time, it would have stabilized and become a more normal faith. Interesting reading about the genze riyaku, sounds like an etremely watered down version of the prosperity gospel
Changelings are just Nazi Occupation Expy in their Pax content but it gave you so much to chew on: conquest of the rest of the continent, mechanics to bring those horses into the line, releasing protectorates to not bother about occuipation, player choice in the story, shaping your own approach to the situation with even an option to rise up again againt Changelings as Liberation Army with it's own content to account for that.
Tho it is not perfect of course, your leader after Pax starts become absolute idiot, lot of still boring stuff and that shitty Everfree Forest rebellion which is cool on paper but absolute dogshit after first try.
I will say that the best overall 'storyline' I have played in a HOI4 mod is doing Changeling Lands > Changelingia > Manehatten Protectorate > ELF > Equestria.
It had a good overall story, that didn't just involve clicking a focus, reading a wall of text and then waiting 70 days for the next wall of text. It remembered that the most important thing about of HOI4, the point of the entire game, warfare.
Playing as the ELF can be a massive uphill battle, so it feels great to progress and take back your country.
TNO sucks in this regard, it should just be a visual novel at this point.
This looks like an absolute chore to play, I thank you for suffering through it.
If you can just delete your entire army at the start, it shouldn't be a HOI4 mod.
