Plagued /r/TNOmod and the Reddit HOI4 modding community - When a subreddit for a video game mod turns to utter insanity

I think that it's clearer more now than ever that HOI4 as a WW2 sim/grand strategy game is over. HOI4 since like No Step Back has been more and more devoted to alt-history RP (is it actually LARP if it's in a video game?). I'm kind of fine with that direction, since I've been tired of playing HOI4 the historical way (i.e., historical Germany or historical UK where you let France fall, etc.) for a while. Maybe that's just because those paths have been really lackluster and if Paradox actually put effort into developing historical gameplay they would be interesting again. I like the new special project system, but it feels like Paradox gave it basically no balance testing. The sub tech seems extremely busted and there's no equivalent counter for anti-sub tech, e.g., aircraft deployed sonar buoys.

To be fair I'd never be happy about being born in Bosnia.
Agreed, if I was born in that minefield I'd leave for Germany, Britain, France, Canada, America, or just anywhere other than Bosnia.

Paradox won't change a damn thing unless any of the big ParadoxTubers or the bottom line are affected.

Hoi4 dlcs are now suffering the same problem TNO had 4 years ago. There's no point in having 15 different mechanics if they all essentially result in the same bonuses.

Frankly I'm starting to think that the best way to play hoi4 is with the two integrated dlcs and man the guns. The rest of the dlcs are just bloat.

I'm not even going to bother to read it, I can smell to soy from here.
I have 4500 hours in HOI4, I like the alternative paths, I like playing as the 'bad guys'. The game isn't perfect, but its the best all round strategy game out there. I played HOI3 as well, but it just doesn't click for me, HOI4 is a great balance.
Also, if someone doesn't like the base game, play a mod.

On some level, I agree with you, on the other hand, enjoy pushing all the way to the Urals without a Collaboration Government on the Soviets. La Resistance is a good addition to the base game, as is No Step Back, both add good depth to the game.
I bought Gotterdamerung, but I still haven't bought Trial or Allegiance because it just seems to fuck the game.

I don't give a shit about historical accuracy, Hoi4 slowly embracing being the wacky alt-history stuff is fun. I had loads of fun doing a Hungarian run today with the Joseph August path all because this was funny as fuck to see on the focus tree.

I will take a thousand more DLCs that add fun schizo shit over a single one that tries to appeal to the muh realism crowd.

I have friends with 2,000 hours in the game. They have no idea what is going on.
TBF HoI4 was practically made to idle. Set on one speed, tab out and do other things, tab back in every fifteen minutes or so for the first year to choose your focuses and techs.
I have over 5,000 hours and I micromanage that shit. To be fair, I have often just let it run on the lowest speed while I'm doing housework or running to the store.
