racing games - no not racist games you fucking ni

The Crew Motorfest officially comes out tomorrow, but Early Access has been available since Monday. Ubisoft also posted this puzzling and bizarre commercial for the game:

Some positive aspects to the game include:
  • The graphics are pretty impressive, given the smaller game size GB wise, (Motorfest is only ~38 GB in size, while the Forza Horizon games are MUCH larger in GB size, my FH5 installer size shows as ~169 GB[!]) compared to other games.
  • The characters in Motorfest, while they do say dumb and cringy dialog at times, seem to be much less annoying than FH5's characters. Also, your player character is silent, as I do not like that your character speaks in FH5.
  • While Oahu isn't a 1:1 re-creation, there are some noticeable landmarks, and I do prefer the taking liberties route of making a map based on a real-life location, compared to doing a 1:1 re-creation.
And some annoyances that people have noticed about the game so far include:
  • The side and rear view mirrors still aren't actual mirrors, and I think that makes The Crew the only current-day racing game, that doesn't have working side/rear mirrors.
  • You still can't customize your license plates, like how you can in the Forza Horizon games.
  • There appears to be some FPS drops in a few certain races for some reason.
  • The physics still feel a bit wonky, even though they were massively improved compared to The Crew 2, and the wonky physics is even more noticeable if you have played other racing games.
  • The AI assistant Cara, is not only annoying as to be expected with AI assistants in racing games, but you also have to do a workaround way to turn her off.
  • Unlike how you can transfer over your TC2 cars to Motorfest, liveries and decals will not carry over, compared to other games like Forza and Gran Turismo, where you can import liveries that you made from previous games.
  • The car sounds don't seem to be as good as other racing games.
  • Some people REALLY don't like that the game is locked to 60 FPS, for some reason.
Overall, if you liked TC2, you'll probably get some kicks out of Motorfest, and is one of the few open-world Arcade racing game available on PlayStation, unless Kaz decides that his autism wants to make an arcade game out of Gran Turismo. It's probably not worth the current asking price though.

How's TC2 been after they put the battle pass things in? I played it a lot, nearly daily, for over a year and then dropped it when they announced it.

Have they finally decided to put some time into the sound design of the horn? Every Ubisoft game that has vehicles in it always have the worst and cheapest honk sound effect.

I will say again if I haven't already, the very concept of Crew Motorfest is retarded. The only reason anyone gave a shit about The Crew was its wHoLe AmErIcA map (which I tried, and it's just not that good, but A for effort) and road tripping idea (badly executed).

Boiling it down to just one island - not even all of a state, ONE ISLAND - is idiotic. Why not just play any of the million other racing games at that point?

i got excited when i saw this thread and thought it was about racist games. </3

edit: i didnt even read the title im sorry im retarded

anyway i main wario on mario kart

It worked for Test Drive Unlimited...over ten years ago...on the same island...

The other part about TDU was that it was a 1:1 scale re-creation of Oahu, while TCM's rendition of Oahu is smaller, and has a LOT of differences with it.

And we'll have to see if TDU Solar Crown does the same with Hong Kong, or if they'll scale it down.

If HK is scaled down in Solar Crown, it needs to be compared to the HK in Sleeping Dogs. I feel that comparison is only proper.

It looks like pre-loading is available for Forza Motorsport 2023, but the bigger detail is that the game is 132 GB:

How big is Gran Turismo's install size, as a comparison? Other games like The Crew, Need for Speed, and F1, are probably much smaller in size too.

I have never owned a PlayStation console after the PS3, so I can't tell you.

An interview with Gran Turismo director Kazunori Yamauchi, also has part of the booklet of the original pitch for the game, dubbed as "Hyper Real Driving Simulator". Maybe it's a good thing that the "HYPER REAL" part hasn't manifested itself in racing games, yet, as those said games would ask you to pay for fuel, car maintenance, insurance, carbon taxes (THANKS TRUDEAU), you name it. (I think some mobile racing games do that, in some way)

A Prime Bundle is available for Amazon Prime subscribers for The Crew Motorfest, which includes one of the Summit cars from The Crew 2:

You think that Forza Motorsport's sound and day/night cycle would be a small feat? I swear, Forza has stepped up their sound with this reboot. One of the best looking racing games I've seen yet. I hope the launch would be stable.

Digital Foundry posted a preview of FM2023:

FOV will also be adjustable on both console, and PC:

Patch 1.38 for GT7 is now out, which features the two Honda Civics and the Mazda3 race car. The Toyota ambulance is now obtainable if you didn't get it earlier, and is free.

The price of the cars in the Hagerty Legendary Car dealer in GT7 have mostly gone up too, with the total increase being 14.8 million credits overall. The biggest change is that the Ferrari 330 P4 has doubled in price, up to 20 million credits, from 9.5 million before this patch.

More GT news: GT Sport's End of Life date has been announced. The game's DLCs will be delisted on December 1, and the servers will be shut down on January 31, 2024. Online services (namely Sport mode, the selling point of GT Sport), the Mileage Store, and custom liveries, helmets, and race suits will no longer be available. Since some Trophies require Sport Mode, Platinuming the game will no longer be possible, and any liveries that you have on your current cars will be removed and replaced with generic car colors.

GT Sport's shut down seems worse than in Forza games, even though Forza games get delisted after only 4 years, but the online functionality of those games are still available. Forza Horizon 1's multiplayer servers were only shut down this year, in comparison, and that game released in 2012.

Two new videos have been posted about the upcoming WRC game:

And regarding GT Sport's upcoming server shut down, here's apparently the reason why custom liveries will be removed from your cars:

So it sounds like Phone Home functionality is required for custom liveries (?), and maybe PD is too lazy to just save them locally.

And GT Sport always had offline capability, that can be activated with a simple command line argument on a Jailbroken PS4 or 5, which is probably how PD will make the non-server related parts of the game still work after the server shutdown:

Call me old fashioned, but Gran Turismo 3 was the peak of the genre. It had more cars, tracks and features than previous games but wasn't completely bloated with them like the future games would be. It was a perfect game to play if you wanted a more realistic sim where you have to buy your vehicles or just an arcade experience where you can drive right off the bat.
Speaking of which, can I just say that I hate how every single racing game nowdays is some sort of "ultra realistic driving sim" with micro transactions and time reversal? I think this video sums it up the best
If you want an alternative, the only thing that comes close to being an arcade racer is Need For Slop or kiddie shit like Mario Kart. Where did all the variety go?
