Hercules/Heracles was a demigod, thus half mortal, so it's not the same. Chris is boasting about being a full god(dess), even going so far as to say that people pray to him. Greek and Roman mythology was a LONG time ago for me, but I don't recall demigods being prayed to often, if at all. I could be wrong, but I think only full gods and goddesses being prayed to.
Nah, Heracles was widely worshipped and had temples, festivals, sacred places. I don't know if any Greek temples of Heracles survived but some Roman did. In polytheistic religions be it Greek, Aztec, Norse etc. most if not all the gods are deified ancestors and old time heroes, so someone having the status of a demigod and not a full god usually just means it was a slightly younger cult than the others and people didn't have time to fully forget mortal origins of a myth. Dionysus and Asclepios are other examples of widely popular demigod cults. Julius Caesar was deified after his death and later some emperors considered themselves literal gods or demigods, but even back in the days of the Republic historical founders of the city were worshipped as gods. It's unsurprising the Roman cultural climate contributed to the fact that christianity is full of demigod worship as both catholics and orthodox christians worship and pray to a pantheon of saints. It took just 9 years since his death for the pope John Paul II to be officially declared a saint, and catholics are now obliged to believe he is now a trascendental being that dwells in the immaterium who you can worship and pray to so that he grant you miracles.
Chris's goddess bullshit has solid roots in the tradition of western culture and isn't too far off from mainstream religions. About the only difference is that Chris is far too autistic and uncharismatic to have people worship him so he had to start his own one person cult.
