$5-10 a month, but unless you are trying to hatch loads of eggs or buy loads of raid passes, you don't need to spend anything.
Yup. Pokémon Go is F2P as it should be. Hit enough Pokestops, and you never need to spend money, since you get all the balls etc. that you need.
It’s even easy to earn (a limited) amount of currency in game, so you can just spend that when you need something you can only get from the store.
Having said that, while you can easily get to level 40 without spending money, or only spending a few dollars a month, there’s no doubt in my mind that this isn’t what Chris did. He’s a creature of instant gratification and low effort after all.
I’ve attached a number of profiles of other Pokémon Go players, and a few things stand out: Especially the absurdly low number of kilometers walked.
Chris has managed to turn a game that’s supposed to be all about exercise and getting out and about, into a game driving around in a car wasting gas.
(Btw: There’s a huge gap between level 39 and 40. I believe it takes double the amount of points as getting from 38 to 39. Which again is double as much as getting from 37 to 38. Just to put it into perspective. It might take you two years to get to level 38, and then another year or two to get to level 40.)

I don't think he'd actually drive around for Pokemon, and if he did, he'd crash.
Nah, that’s just not possible. His stats compared to other players stats prove that he does A LOT of driving. (800 km vs 2000,3000,6000 km).
If he only played Pokémon go walking, he’d have to have roughly 30 Pokémon spawn every single KM walked which is just not feasible.
Also, if Chris has been playing it for four years, that’s 1460 days. 800 km over 1460 days means Chris only moves less than half a mile a day, which would be abnormally lazy even for him.
There’s no way those numbers make sense unless he drives and plays a lot.
(I also seem to remember someone from Bronycon describing him as driving around playing Pokémon Go with a board of 2-3 phones on the dashboard.)
