Oh, I agree. I don't mean to use the Korean church et al to say Bob was tolerant, so much as to point out that we have anecdotal examples on both sides, and none of it is particularly conclusive.Well on the other hand, I think Bob's willingness to mingle with Korean churches is not proof of his tolerance either. Plenty of people from that era hold certain negative assumptions about specific groups, then meet members of those groups who behave opposite to those assumptions, only to be considered the exceptions no matter how many times these "exceptions" are encountered. Those "yeah but you don't count" statements happen all the time. I think we're back to square one, not knowing Bob is one way or another.
Unfortunately, it seems like Chris mostly stuck to the same few offenses Bob committed against him (like making him pull weeds) and that's it.Would you happen to have any examples of this that you could share that aren't widely known Marvin? I always found his relationship with Bob to be one of the more curious things about Chris and by Chris's own admission that Bob 'started more arguments than there are flies in a garbage dump,' I can imagine he complained about Bob to the people he'd chat with online quite often.
I'm already imagining most of them are pretty mundane though sadly, but some we know, like the fact they'd argue and be split over what's better between McDonalds and Burger King, are still hilarious.
What's pretty sad is that Chris now mostly mythologizes Bob, now that he's gone. Not constantly, but once in awhile, Chris will bring up little Bob anecdotes in conversation. Like if you mention that you went to a Korean restaurant, Chris might chime in with Bob's military history.
