Containment Random Thoughts & Questions

I read the CWCki article about prank calls recently. In the one where two weens basically abuse Bob for 10 minutes, the article mentions that he claimed to be a member of the Klan. The original recording of the call is no longer online (and I can't find a transcript either), so I was wondering what the basis for this was.
I doubt that Bob was racist enough to join the third Klan post 1950, so if he ever was a member he must have joined during the dying days of the second Klan in the 40s.

In one of the other prank calls, Bob called the caller (who was hilariously a soundboard of a white woman) “Boy” and told them to “Get their black ass in the gutter.”

Based on this and some things Chris has said, I think Bob was just “old man from the South racist” and not “Klan racist.”

I have a conspiracy theory:
Right after the premier of Robot Chicken, Chris leaves a post on the Adult Swim forums complaining about a sketch's inaccuracies in depicting the characters from Transformers:

Later, season 2 of Robot Chicken features a sketch where a fat nerd hijacks the broadcast and makes complaints about the show's inaccuracies in depicting the characters from Go Bots, a property that's similar to Transformers.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Didn't Sonic Boom have a character in it that was a parody of him?

Chris isn't too far off as being cast as a character for an Avant Garde film. A director wouldn't even need to screen Chris for casting, just go down to 14 BLC, film Chris for a couple of seconds, edit that into whatever scene is in the film, and there you go - Chris got a few seconds of mainstream fame.

Chris’ life is a Harmony Korine movie.

I just saw the Geno episode where that happened, it's really jarring because most of the earlier clips of him talking to the trolls he was so amiable and cultured. To me Bob always seemed like the type who disliked nonwhite people on a group level but could make exceptions for individuals. There is a pretty strong cognitive dissonance between loving black music (let alone having a massive collection of it) and being such an ass to black people, but that is pretty much American race relations in a nutshell.

The creators of Sonic Boom was asked about this and they initially denied it, they haven't gone back on their statement I believe, but the signs are pretty obvious that they based a lot of that character's characteristics on him.

There is an article on the cwiki somewhere about Mark the Tapir, it's also kinda hilarious that they used a Tapir which is an animal similar to a pig that spends a lot of time in swampy humid jungles wallowing in murky rivers and pools of water.

As far as I'm aware, Bob never actually claimed to be a member of the Klan. The quote that people latched onto went something like this: "I've seen crosses burning. I've seen 'em, fella. And you don't want to see it." Considering the time and place he grew up, I've got no trouble believing that he saw a cross burning or two. Like Marshal Mannerheim said, I think he was just trying to use it to intimidate the trolls, rather than claiming Klan membership.

Yeah. As I mentioned, he would have been 23 when the Civil Rights Movement kicked off and he was a very socially conservative Southern white guy, so it's not hard to guess where his sympathies were.

Despite that, and having served in the korean war, Bob seemed to have a fondness for their culture. He had a Korean girlfriend in college and had no issues taking Chris to a korean church congregation. I don't think he's as racist as KF makes him out to be.

There is essentially no hard evidence that he was ever involved with the KKK as well, I know people here like to speculate about it but if he really was, we would have some sort of strong evidence or reputable claim to back that up. He likely knew of the happenings and people who may have been involved in the KKK in his community but that would have been the end of it, as far as we're concerned.

I wonder if Chris would ever sell Sonichu to some one who would go on to write comics?
I don't think they'd be any point paying Chris money, just go and make it and say it's a satire comic or whatever.

It's not like Chris really owns Sonichu, if it suddenly started becoming profitable in a commercial sense I imagine Sega and Nintendo/Gamefreak would quickly take legal action in a case Chris has no chance of winning.

I don't think we can really make many generalizations about some shit he said literally once while he was pissed off at people who were relentlessly harassing him.

I seriously doubt that the kind of person who would be in the Klan would also be an ardent supporter of the United Nations, like Bob was. I think he was somewhat socially conservative and not exactly thrilled with Chris trooning out, but probably more of an old Southerner than some kind of racial extremist.

bob definitely wasn't an actual racist, let alone a klansman. he's from a different time, and definitely said some questionable things, but even then it's nothing you wouldn't hear from your grandparents. if anything, bob always seemed interested in other cultures to me based on what we know about him.
