I went on campus for the first time today since our winter break ended. Usually we put up posters for our films looking for voice actors/composers/etc in the halls, and I found one of Rory's.
I have been hesitant about posting photos of the two that are around campus to post on the thread for awhile, but this one struck my eye
I have no idea who scrawled "RACIST" over the poster be it someone from off campus or a student that goes here. Either way, I couldn't help but laugh a bit, but I am a bit worried about things getting more extreme over the matter on campus.

it's sad how artists with little to no talent- but are in CalArtz!!!! because of their rich parents- have an almost guaranteed job in the animation community, but amazing artists or animators who are a little less fortunate have to sit aside and watch these incompetent "artists" scribble on a tablet, get asskissed by their professors, and then ship themselves off to disney or some other big brand company.

There are some people with genuine talent at CalArts (we saw some examples with the student films of a few of her classmates) but yes, there are a lot of kids there who only got in due to mom and dad's money. It's why art school is only worth it for the connections it can give you in my opinion.

Wow, that poster is really badly put together. It doesn't even sound like she's looking for a composer, more like a band.
Anyhow if this starts leaking over onto the campus from outside sources (or hell, even inside sources) then that's no good. There are plenty of people going to that school to learn and not be interrupted by the antics of one girl's stupid social life and artistic choices. Here's hoping this doesn't get out of hand.

You think Calarts is bad? This here is considered an A+ student in an upper division drawing class.
Note: the student ignored all of the parameters and drew random things for the final project. Half of them are sculptures...and they got praised like the second coming of Jesus. They literally half ass everything and have no skill. Who is going to pay money for art like this?

I think I know why Calarts is getting a nose dive on quality, see the people working on SU and OK KO, lots of lazy talentless hacks than can hardly stick to a model sheet because of “MUH FEELINGS”. American artists tend to fucking suck because the “individuality” “feelings over logic” “It’s muh style” mentalities run rampant lately among the community.
In Russia or Japan, studying the fundamentals is a must, and you can tell even fanartists of these countries tend to produce god tier quality material.
So the quality talent pool of artists in America is lower, and the number of quality students that can actually afford Calarts is even lower.
Foreigners are even less likely to be able to afford the school.
The institution has to maintain itself, so to not crash and burn, they accept lots of rich babies and these mediocre rich bitches become the hacks doing ugly shit like OK KO.
Rory is just the most obvious example of this problem.

yeah, i'm certainly not saying calarts is talent-void (i've seen some kickass artists and animators, like sabrina cotugno), but damn, people like rory or the absolute fuckup above put a big ugly mar on the face of calarts.

i'm not bitter and i've never wanted to get into calarts either, i'm just saying that college should be a little harder to get into than "hey, you have money. get in." it seems pointless to learn somewhere that has tolerance for little effort, you know?
Modern Robby Liefeld is on a school that is supposed to churn out the next gen of film and animation creators. I think that alone is a good reason to be assblasted lol

The fine arts school here is a complete joke and everybody knows it. Once we had an exhibition that consisted of giant penis sculptures in the main hall with texts messages from men sending dick picks pasted on them. We had to move accepted students day outside because of this which is hilarious, but also telling of how ridiculous modern art is.
I had to put a disagree just to correct that many people on SU and OKKO did not attend Calarts and that the people that run those shows actually attended SVA. And do not put Japan and Russia on a pedestal when there are plenty of terrible student shorts and going on pixiv will lead you to thousands of people that cannot draw a proper figure. Not only that, but the school has a ridiculous amount of foreigners that attend the school. If anything Rory is her own problem. The only reason they stand out is because they are an almost comedic hyperbolic stereotype of a virtue signaling tumblrite with a massive ego.
Forgive me if I came off as "defensive" here. I despise this school more than anyone here possibly could, but theories and fan-fiction are a pet peeve of mine.

It shouldn't be based upon who can pay the student loans because then we get people like Rory and the student @Fistbeard_McThunderaxe shared getting into the industry with hardly any talent or work ethic. Of course they need to be able to pay the school fees, but it shouldn't be based solely on that.

I remember feeling envious when I found out that Japanese students start observational drawing during grade school. Yeah, if you check on pixiv, not exactly everyone has gotten figure drawing down, but holy shit do they have the sense for color theory.

Hello, since there isn't much new updated drama on this person... I've decided to give my impression on visiting CalArts since that seems to be the hot topic of the thread now.
So I'm currently attending an art school (won't say which since it's very small), but I'm having the time of my life and it's very very informative and I can say I've improved very much with its help.
however back when I was visiting art schools to attend- CalArts was one of them. I wasn't really interested in animation but I just decided 'what the heck, why not'
ok so. I went to visit the school around 2 (?) years ago on one of their scheduled tour days. There was probably around 13 other people in my group so it was a pretty small guided tour for the school. The first thing they did was cram us in a cramped as hell shoebox sized room and showed us a video on their school-- the general bullshit of like "this is our campus life!!! This is our art!!! etc etc"
let's just say for the 'art' category, all they fucking showed us was some avant garde and abstract bullshit (like those 'art' displays where they have garbage in a corner and it's titled Government). I am 100% not saying that avant garde/abstract art isn't valid and is 'stupid'-- i totally support artists who choose that as their path-- but in my opinion, they should of showed whole different variety of styles for people who are interested in more realism and sensical art-- not splatters on a canvas. Anyways-- I'll also like to add they showed us little to no animation reels, examples, etc-- and if they did I just had no memory since it was that unforgettable.
Ok NEXT the tour guide decided to show us around campus (which was fucking disgustingly dirty btw) and took us to these brick catacombs of hallways which lead to classrooms-- and all the walls are COVERED in spray paint from students with edgy as FUCK quotes like "shrek fucked me in the ass" "jesus came on my face twice" "god can suck my gaping ass".... like they were trying to be funny but it's just stupid as HELL....
but anyways, that was the extent of my experience there and let's just say I was glad I fucking left... it was horrendous. Like even if I had made CalArts my DREAM SCHOOL, that visit alone would of cured me.... I would of switched my dream school immediately upon standing on campus.

I'll actually defend art colleges. In my own experience, they can help you to train your talents quickly, help you discover your niche and style/approach and, yeah, connections. If you're dedicated, you can get a LOT out of an art degree.
A prestigious school does not automatically a worthwhile artist make. We'd be poking fun at her no matter what college she went to. The fact she keeps masturbating over CalArts just makes it funnier, given her regression and shoddy personality.
Still, more on topic- am I going to print out, like, three of these and tape them to my sketchbooks and cintiq case?
