Artcow rcdart / Rory Cummings-Dise - Tranny Fetishist who Torpedoed a Potential Animation Career

a lot of u people seem pretty bitter.... idk i know her art is bad but,,, yall seem a little fannyflustered yall didn't get into calarts

Not even close. I am not retarded enough to waste what little money I have on "art school" where I'll just have to take classes for the shit I already know and am experienced with. And the things that I don't know? I can easily find what I'm looking for on the internet for free.

I used to want to go to one of these schools but I'm not a stupid kid anymore and I know how much of a scam they are. I toured many art and animation schools and saw how for most, you didn't even need to know the fundamentals if you had the money to pay for the school.

And besides, this thread isn't just about her art, but her shitty personality as well. She doesn't deserve defending, why the fuck are you here?

Everyone's acting like it's some big mystery why so many people want to go to CalArts specifically, so here's your answer:

I honestly don't know much about CalArts (beside the memes surrounding it) until now, thanks to this thread. Calarts isn't the reason why Rorys like this since there ARE other good artists from CalArts but how the internet and her followers just doesn't give her proper criticism...And she HAD potential to keep on improving, even being in Calarts.

I went on campus for the first time today since our winter break ended. Usually we put up posters for our films looking for voice actors/composers/etc in the halls, and I found one of Rory's.
I have been hesitant about posting photos of the two that are around campus to post on the thread for awhile, but this one struck my eye
I have no idea who scrawled "RACIST" over the poster be it someone from off campus or a student that goes here. Either way, I couldn't help but laugh a bit, but I am a bit worried about things getting more extreme over the matter on campus.
Wow, she couldn't even be bothered to proofread this thing - leaving a typo in it, AND she comes off as an unprofessional pretentious asshole with that whole "like, the band" thing. This is a great way to only get other unprofessional pretentious assholes to volunteer to work with you. Great job, Rory.

CalArts actually just accept people with really good portfolios. I'm talking about exceptional portfolios. Which makes this ordeal with RcDart even more frustrating in my opinion. I saw her portfolio and it WAS good. Good enough for CalArts. It was amazing.

And it is frustrating to see her wasting all that potential on shit like that. Sure, the animation industry looks for stylization, and it can work. Her style was amazing before she started trying too hard. Now it's just a... Mess.

Part of me is still optimistic that as she grows more experienced, she will get more used to this new style. She will learn how to make it interesting and all that. But the way she just keeps refusing critics and crying "ITS JUST MUH STYLE IM GOOD YOU JUST TOO STUPID TO GET IT" and then procceeds to make it WORSE certainly won't help in the long.

It's just sad.

I attended animation college for three years. I'd be lying if I said CalArts isn't the dream, but it's too far off for me. I live in another country, one that just now is starting to invest on animation as a serious carreer, not to mention that art classes simply don't exist in small towns like mine.

And I recently had to give up on animation completely because the animation program in my college was just too weak. It was badly planned, which harmed half the class (including me), wasting years of our lives.
So seeing someone Rory who has this wonderful of an opportunity simply.... Wasting it like that? Because of her own ego?

I'm not a jealous person. I don't wish harm on people who have opportunities I don't have, on the contrary! I get happy and excited for them, and wish them the best! And, as shitty as Rory is as a person, this also applies to her.

I don't wish her harm. I don't want her carreer to be a fluke.

I want her to wake the fuck up. Stop being so arrogant about your own style when people criticize it! Get more out of your comfort zone!

You like this style? Fine! Then at least accept you're still getting the hand of it! A lot of people here made edits on them that barely touched the style itself, but made it look WAY better! Learn from them, instead of whining about how we're a bunch of trolls who don't get it!

Grow the fuck up.

(also, learn how to design a fucking flier, you stupid bitch)

The fine arts school here is a complete joke and everybody knows it. Once we had an exhibition that consisted of giant penis sculptures in the main hall with texts messages from men sending dick picks pasted on them. We had to move accepted students day outside because of this which is hilarious, but also telling of how ridiculous modern art is.

I had to put a disagree just to correct that many people on SU and OKKO did not attend Calarts and that the people that run those shows actually attended SVA. And do not put Japan and Russia on a pedestal when there are plenty of terrible student shorts and going on pixiv will lead you to thousands of people that cannot draw a proper figure. Not only that, but the school has a ridiculous amount of foreigners that attend the school. If anything Rory is her own problem. The only reason they stand out is because they are an almost comedic hyperbolic stereotype of a virtue signaling tumblrite with a massive ego.
Forgive me if I came off as "defensive" here. I despise this school more than anyone here possibly could, but theories and fan-fiction are a pet peeve of mine.

I'd rather have a dick exhibit than one about menstruation.

Yes, that's a real thing. Kill me.

she used to draw black people like normal human beings at one point, what happened? i'm going bonkers over how much worse her art has gotten since getting into art school

CalArts. Sure, it's prestigious, and teaches most people good animation skills, it also seems like they want you to have an ugly or overly simple art style a la Steven Universe or Clarence.

I'm blaming Steven Universe for the cyst-like lips in this person's deteriorating art style. It's so fucking hard to look at. Amazing how CalArts always seems to breed the same crap and passes it as a style lol
Despite me blaming CalArts above, I agree, but I think it has to do with the entirety of her art sinking. SU is a show that sometimes has bad anatomy and most faces are ugly. Rory just takes it to the illogical extreme.

She seems to like drawing self portraits.

I will admit her portraits aren't too bad (the bottom left one kinda has that weird fish mouth however). But whenever she draws portraits, it always seems to be of herself. Very few of her portraits, from what I've seen, are actually of other people. I know in art class they tend to make you do self portraits but never to this extent. Does she really just like drawing herself that much?
They look more like selfies with a painting filter over them, to me. I could be wrong, though

Actually, she seems to have a pretty decent grasp on realism? This is one of the older pieces in her art tumblr, and it was done with oil painting

So I think tracing isn't really the case - just a very bad taste and a narcissistic personality
Can someone get that one image of Shmorky next to this one? I can't because mobile, but fucking hell, it looks a lot like that. Namely the facial expression.

I'd rather have a dick exhibit than one about menstruation.

Yes, that's a real thing. Kill me.
A sculpture of a dick with quotes from dick pics is actually a funny concept, too.

It's an art exhibit in the school that is seeking artwork related to period blood. That's all I know until it gets unveiled.
Well, as long as the artists limit to symbolisms on how it feels like to bleed every single month and stuff, that sounds interesting.

Unless they decide to do like some people I know and use their actual fucking blood, then jesus christ, I am sorry

As an artist, I have a few friends that are/were going to calarts. From what I've heard, it's a shit school that overworks you to the point of exhaustion at the expense of your mental health and social life.
Also apparently has a shit cafeteria, way too expensive, bad overall school quality... But, that's just based off of my friends. Maybe they're lazy pussies.

Tldr; It's a bad school from what I've gathered. I'd rather wrap my balls with hemp rope and tie the other end to a running high speed ceiling fan than waste my time and money going there.

Hello, since there isn't much new updated drama on this person... I've decided to give my impression on visiting CalArts since that seems to be the hot topic of the thread now.
So I'm currently attending an art school (won't say which since it's very small), but I'm having the time of my life and it's very very informative and I can say I've improved very much with its help.

however back when I was visiting art schools to attend- CalArts was one of them. I wasn't really interested in animation but I just decided 'what the heck, why not'

ok so. I went to visit the school around 2 (?) years ago on one of their scheduled tour days. There was probably around 13 other people in my group so it was a pretty small guided tour for the school. The first thing they did was cram us in a cramped as hell shoebox sized room and showed us a video on their school-- the general bullshit of like "this is our campus life!!! This is our art!!! etc etc"
let's just say for the 'art' category, all they fucking showed us was some avant garde and abstract bullshit (like those 'art' displays where they have garbage in a corner and it's titled Government). I am 100% not saying that avant garde/abstract art isn't valid and is 'stupid'-- i totally support artists who choose that as their path-- but in my opinion, they should of showed whole different variety of styles for people who are interested in more realism and sensical art-- not splatters on a canvas. Anyways-- I'll also like to add they showed us little to no animation reels, examples, etc-- and if they did I just had no memory since it was that unforgettable.

Ok NEXT the tour guide decided to show us around campus (which was fucking disgustingly dirty btw) and took us to these brick catacombs of hallways which lead to classrooms-- and all the walls are COVERED in spray paint from students with edgy as FUCK quotes like "shrek fucked me in the ass" "jesus came on my face twice" "god can suck my gaping ass".... like they were trying to be funny but it's just stupid as HELL....

but anyways, that was the extent of my experience there and let's just say I was glad I fucking left... it was horrendous. Like even if I had made CalArts my DREAM SCHOOL, that visit alone would of cured me.... I would of switched my dream school immediately upon standing on campus.

Non-objective art is great when done correctly. One of my teachers makes art like this:

Teachers have the habit of either controlling the student too much and indoctrinating them in their way of thinking or not helping them at all and letting them make shit with no direction.

Rory is like some students at my school where the teacher doesn't even try to help them because they don't listen or try. Teachers set students up for failure all the time.

Rory could use a huge dosage of humility in my opinion. What's frustrating about her art is that she clearly is competent at her medium, and I do give credit for her trying out new styles.

Unfortunately, her new "style" is just so unappealing to look at. It reminds me of a lot of Steven Universe fanart that I have found on Tumblr, in the worst ways possible.

Some of the humor I find in this thread are all the other artists claiming that the cost of art school is worth it for the networking.

lol lol lol loooooooool

It doesn't matter how much time you spent networking, how awesome your portfolio is, or how many dicks you personally sucked, what matters is that Pajeet is cheaper than you, and companies don't have to pay him benefits.

:offtopic: But... Exactly my sentiments here. If you know what you're doing, know how to be charismatic, and aren't a raging cunt, you can do all of this networking yourself. Sure, it may take longer than you might expect (I guess?) but it's definitely more worth it than wasting time, money, and energy on a school that takes advantage of its students. I suppose if it's your dream to work for Disney's animation department then that's your prerogative, but you're only paying for the name. Like someone said earlier in this thread, you can go to CalArts for one semester and could easily get hired to some studio. And even if you still want to work for Disney, all you really need to do is work your way up basically. More and more, I'm seeing animation studios and game companies no longer require a degree as long as you're a good artist. The degree is a plus, but it's also not necessarily a guarantee. Someone without a degree and better artistic skills could get the job you're aiming for because employers have STARTED to wise the fuck up and stop sucking on art school dick.
