The only things that really bother me about Welcome to Raccoon City is I hate the Hispanic Jill and why would you make that movie and leave out Barry?

The guy they cast as Leon seems like he works, but it really bothers me when I see it's version of Jill, that's just awful.

I haven't watched it yet, but my impression is it's way more of an actual RE movie than any of the others, it sucks about the politically correct casting and no Barry though.

I plan on giving the whole thing a watch at some point before I have a final opinion obviously, but I'd like to see that team tackle Code Veronica.

I've recently begun replaying the RE1 remake for the first time in quite a while. This time, I'm doing a Chris Redfield playthrough.
I've been thinking about replaying it soon too since the 20th anniversary of the US release is a few days away, so it would have been exactly 20 years since I first played the game next month.

In those 20 years I only gave it a full playthrough as Chris once, why? Well, to be frank, it's because Jill has a nice ass, but I also really like Barry.

But if I did play it again I'd play as Chris, I just gave the game a Jill playthrough last summer.

I've been thinking of replaying it too but I don't want to play the remake. I'd rather play the original or the Director's Cut.

I've just finished up my first run of RE7, kinda have a mixed aspect on it. Been replaying the remakes w/ character mods on, wanted to do it for a while but put it off for a while.

About to replay the RE1 Remake on PC too to keep the experience going in a random order. Gonna go with a Chris playthrough as well.

now that I think about it, Resident Evil 2 Remake also makes less of a sense when you think about it, specially the opening. Sure they are Arklay Sheriffs, but they were also one of the first to block entrances and exits from Stone Ville, Rhodes Hill and Cedar going to Raccoon City before the military arrives. why the sheriff and his companion is being retarded like from REC when they were briefed about the situation is really puzzling

I decided to play the OG RE again, and just to be a full on hipster twat I've using the Saturn version on the original hardware. Having completed it many times back when it was new I can largely use muscle memory to carry myself and know the best route. Whilst I've never had an issue with tank controls, it is missing a lot of features you get used to, like auto aim, quick turn, low health animation and manual reload. If you try and play it for the first time today I can imagine it being really rough, but for me it still has a real charm, being the most straightforward and restrained entry in the series, and still has that sense of isolation.

Ironically, that's how I got introduced to Resident Evil was my friend rented it from Blockbuster when I had a Saturn one time.

Completed the Saturn version, getting the best ending with Jill in around 6 hours. Whilst I'd like to post review and expand on my previous post, I can't do so objectively as so much of it is based on nostalgia. If I was being completely honest then I can imagine anyone who didn't grow up with it having a bad time, even if they played later RE games. The lack of a quick turn or auto aim, whilst increasing tension, is a pain since it can be hard to line up your shots or avoid damage in certain areas.

But it still has a real unique charm to it. Playing it when I was young really felt like a trip into the unknown, especially as I was coming straight from the SNES which felt a world away in terms of graphics and it was the first game I played where I had a genuine sense of fear and tension. Yes in the day I had a magazine guide, but that was still only an overview and there was no internet to spoil everything. There's also a real sense of isolation, that you're trapped in this house in the middle of nowhere. Whilst the environment is a lot less detailed than RE2, with some corridors that are completely empty, somehow it adds to that unnerving feeling. Another part I'd never really considered before was the Hunters, yes they're absolute bastards and borderline unfair, but they completely change the way you approach the otherwise familiar mansion upon your return.

Since it was the first game, there was no existing lore to have to build your story around and no expctation they'd still be making entries 25 years later, so the story is almost refreshingly straightforward. Yes the voice acting is even worse than I remembered, since Capcom just went out and grabbed whichever gaijins looked like the characters, but again it adds to the charm. But I do have to give props to music and sound design, which reaally add to the atmosphere. Also whoever played Jill in the fmv - well I think there was a reason 13 year old me liked playing as her. Although I did forget just how much harder playing as Chris is, especially when the game never indicates they're basically easy and hard mode.

So unlike the remake, which is still an awesome game, I could only recommend playing it if you have the patience to live with its flaws (and to be honest the Director's Cut would be a better way to experience it. But I still really enjoyed going back into the mansion.

There's a new trailer for the Netflix adaption of Resident Evil.

The fans agreed. It's going to suck ass with tokenized characters with a side of forcing unwanted diversity & inclusion & representations.

You have to hand it to them. I never expected another Resident Evil adaption that looked less like Resident Evil than the movies with Milla Jovovich.

Imagine getting handed twenty plus years of iconic imagery and characters ripe for expansion in a setting that effectively accommodates any kind of setting you'd like, from grungy urban cities full of zombies to Victorian castles with vampire mommies and just... throwing all of that shit in the dumpster.

Late and gay but I finally got around to playing the recent remakes and I was really impressed with RE2make, I played the hell out of the original games on the PS1 back in the day and can't really complain at all about 2 as a fan of the original. It does a good job of doing something completely different but keeping the feel of the original. There are some minor gripes like some of the dialogue with Leon and Claire is a bit weird and stilted and the RNG is annoying (blasting 5-6 bullets right into a zombie's noggin only for them to continue lumbering towards you unfazed is infuriating) but its minor shit and doesn't take away from the overall experience.

RE3make though...ooof. I can't say its outright bad, its the same engine and the gameplay is the same, but I its nowhere near 2 in quality. Feels like a sloppy and rushed DLC rather than its own game. Also fucking hated Jill being a sassy bitch and all of the cutscene set pieces - all I kept thinking was "huh I guess the devs really like the recent Tomb Raider games and Lara getting kicked around in cutscenes".

Think I'll give RE7 a try next. I kind of gave up on the series after 5 but had a lot of fun with RE2make and some of the old enthusiasms for the games came back I guess.
