The only acceptable RE4 remake would be a purely visual one. Update it to RE2 fidelity and leave the rest well enough alone.

They didn't announce the RE2 stuff til like a month afterwards IIRC. I'd be kinda shocked if they didn't give any single-player DLC after all the criticism the game has received in terms of length.

I'll believe it when I see it.

If they weren't working on a Mercenaries Mode (which would encourage me to buy the game TBQH) then it's not happening. The DLC is always shit that's already in production.

I predict that RE4make will be two thirds as long as the original and be made completely serious with none of the charming goofyness it had before. leon will almost never crack a joke or a one liner, ramon salazar will get the same treatment, and ashley will curse a lot. also she wears pants instead of a skirt and it will cause a big stupid controversy for a week. no mercenaries mode.

the gameplay will be really good though. like the other two recent remakes but your guns will actually be powerful. it's gonna look amazing too, but it wont be the same jump in graphical quality from RE3make as the original was from CV.

I don't even want that. I'd hate to see whatever redesign they had in store for Leon S. Kennedy. That and they would cut the game down immensely, probably remove all the goofy one liners, and try to make the story serious.

To be fair, 4's beginning had a grittiness to it and was even fucking terrifying on a first playthrough (at least it was for me). The village part is my favorite portion of the game because it has an intense atmosphere. You don't belong here and the locals are hell-bent on killing you. The makeshift traps and weapons the villagers used against you added to that as well. Plus the antagonist of that portion, Bitores Mendes, was a creepy motherfucker.

The goofiness doesn't kick in until you get to the castle, which is where Salazar is introduced and the game starts throwing wacky shit at you. But it's just as well since at that point in the game you're proficient enough to where the enemies aren't really scary anymore, so the horror wouldn't be as effective if the castle tried to be creepy. RE4's paced well enough to where the sudden tonal shift from backwoods horror to bombastic action isn't completely jarring, which is impressive in and of itself.

To be clear, I think the idea of a remake is totally pointless; RE4's perfectly fine by itself and there's no need to try and remake it. It's just that if we are actually getting a remake that's trying to be serious, I wouldn't be against a serious tone because I enjoyed that village section for its atmosphere, and seeing that fully realized for an entire game would be kinda cool. Not cool enough to justify a remake mind you, but it is a somewhat interesting direction to me.

Oh boy can't wait for more cut content in the name of realism

I want CV, dammit!!

Well, at least Shinji Mikami is kinda involved.

I have nothing against Remakes. They don't take the old games away. I just wished it would have been CV or even Outbreak. But who knows, perhaps there is a still chance.

On the other hand I would love to see RE4 villains, monsters & environments in REmake style. Perhaps they even make Ashley less annoying. Imagine those fucking Regenerators with RE engine graphics, Holy shit.

It would also be awesome if they include a bit of RE 3.5. The hook monster was terrifying. In general RE4 Remake should be scarier. The first part was great but the second was a letdown (still love it tho).

The lack of an alternate campaign really hurt replayability if only to spice things up a little bit because in the end you were always following the same exact linear path from start to finish. The new random spawn locations helped a little bit but by that point I'd already ran through the game thrice (first run on hardcore, then 1-herb and no box runs on standard and assisted) so I just ended up cheesing it with the rocket launcher. I'd give the game (minus Project Res since I haven't touched that at all) a 7 or 7.5 but definitely only at a much lower price than 50-60 bucks. It could really help if they copied what they did with RE2 and put out free DLC which could elevate it only in this case hopefully even more of it though with assets already tied up in PR anything more than what we got with 2make seems unlikely.

Ideally CVmake will be more like 2 was and they'll have the brains not to try and do anything with any of the others. 4 is about as perfect as games can get and god only knows how the fuck 5 or 6 would work and 1 or 0 would just be going backwards which wouldn't make sense.
Hasn’t there been talk of 8 or a 4 remake that uses the hallucination mechanic from the original RE4 demo?

So basically we are going to control "plank of wood serious" Leon from the RE CGI movies and RE 6?
Oh fuck me...
Actually no. Resident Evil 8 is (supposedly):

1. Going to star Ethan from RE7
2. Be first person, like RE7
3. Have some kind of hallucination/haunting mechanic, similar to the hook man RE4 demo
4. Have wolf like enemies, possibly werewolves
5. Feature the return of old fashioned zombies
6. Have Chris Redfield return in some capacity, possibly in an antagonistic role
7. Take place in a town and castle (probably somewhere in Europe, like RE4)
8. Will be called Resident Evil Village (with the name being used to the form the roman numerals for "8", as in "Resident Evil 8: Village" similar to what they did for RE7.

You know, how do they expect Ethan to work as a main character again? He isn't a BOW fighter like Chris and Leon, he just barely survived and I doubt he would receive training to become a bad ass when he already has a life outside of this BOW non sense. Hopefully his inclusion doesn't feel forced...then again, the other option would be to play as plank of wood Leon or just-got-off-the-steroids Chris (since the series pretty much orbits those two now).
I wished we could play as Jill again (the real Jill and not Remake 3 Jill who honestly felt less mature than Claire.. )

Edit
Ah yes I remember that they also said that RE8 may or may not piss off fans. That sounds very Rian Johnson ish or Alex kurtzman ish, so when fans hate it they can claim it was intentional in some weird attempt to save face. If that true, Capcom may be on the way of destroying the good faith they have built with RE7 and RE2...

Maybe because he’s still technically Molded? Neo-Umbrella or whatever Chris is part of might have Ethan on hand because they think a minor healing factor/possible resistance to other infections might be useful for when things get weirder; or they can’t release him back into society because god knows what that would do if it spread without a controlling entity.

I get that but you would think the BSAA and Blue Umbrella (Neo Umbrella were the idiots in RE 6) would have already given him a cure just like Mia. Besides, Ethan's healing factor was nowhere near as close to Jack Baker's (unless it somehow evolves to that). RE 7 and Not a Hero did foreshadow this underground organization thats creating and selling BOWs (and not beyond working with psychos like Lucas Baker) so I can see Mia coming back since she was working for them... (sure, she changed her mind and wanted to quit but it was far too late) so I can see Mia kind of striking up a deal to not have her arrested but rather "forced" to be an informant on their dealings. As for Ethan, hopefully they have him more fleshed out because Ethan is easily one of the weakest aspects of RE7, he just felt like a silent protagonist even tho he wasnt suppose to be one, meaning he just didnt react like anyone is expected to react.

You know, I almost dont feel like seeing most of the old characters like Leon and Ada anymore for the simple fact that their characters felt tarnished by RE6 (and I honestly am kind of tired of them shoving Ada everywhere even when it doesnt make sense cuz she needs to have unsolved sexual tension with Leon). Leon just isnt the tough, determined but still human and likable dude he was in RE 2 and 4 anymore and given how this is his personality in other pieces of media outside of RE 4, I think Capcom prefers him this way. So personally, unless they really improve his character, I would rather they retire him altogether for future entries in the main series. Im surprised RE managed to reach the number 8 to be honest, you would think the characters are realistically getting too old now, I mean, Chris is meant to be in his 50's by the time RE8, I know he is as healthy as a stud with all his gummy flinstone steroid vitamins but they cant expect us to buy he will still be doing this for very long (given RE is meant to be at least SOMEWHAT realistic outside of all the monsters).

He'd could work as the old grizzled commander of the BSAA that trains and advises our new generation of protagonists and maybe helps out at the end in a one last hurrah type moment. You have him as the battlefield commander looking through binoculars until the end of the game where he shows up to help you against the big bad but gets a horrible wound that forces him out of field duty and into a desk at HQ from that point on.

Chris doesn't need to retire like he hinted in RE 6 he just needs some actual successors to hand the torch to.

At the same time if they keep minimizing the action and focusing on horror they can still get more mileage out of Chris. Kind of like Barry in Revelations 2.

Im starting to think that maybe keeping Piers alive would have been better, that way they would have a relatively likable but tough protagonist to carry the torch while Chris remains on the side lines with easier assignments. I kind of dont want Chris to have the old "dying while saving the day for one last time", just smaller roles as he adknowledges he isnt going to live forever and its time to take it easy (for his standarts that is).
And yeah, Barry seems to be the only RE main character that adknowledges that he aint getting any younger.

While that's an idea, honestly, I'm with The Handsome Tard on this one. These characters are getting old. RE advances in real time with real life, so these characters cannot keep realistically doing this forever. By 2020, Chris would be 47, Jill would be 46, Barry would be 60, Leon would be 43, Ada would be 46, Claire would be 41, and Rebecca would be 40. Rebecca Jill Ada and Claire are all far past what one would consider being normal marrying age, and are in the upper age range of their fertility should they want to have children. Jill, in particular is very close to period where she will possibly start to undergo menopause. Barry is really too old for this shit, and Chris and Leon, though both of them are healthy for their age, are still up there in years to still be playing super soldier and super cop.

In addition to that, these guys have been chasing the ghosts of Umbrella for pretty much most of their adult lives, with nothing to show for it. As far as we know, none of them have families or kids; they have no legacy. Realistically, that would have to weigh on them. How long could they keep doing this, and when they are old and tired and can't keep doing this, what realistically remains for them? Dying in a nursing home, cold and alone? It would be nice to see a Resident Evil game tackle these questions since, realistically, they all would be starting to grapple with their inevitable mortality and whether or not it was worth it to keep going given everything that has happened to them.
