Revelations, that was a fine game and the only thing holding it back was the console it was originally released on: The 3DS.
I don't feel like the 3DS held it back, sure it did graphically of course, but I don't think it really suffered in other ways.

I have to play REV2, I passed on it originally due to poor reviews and videos of the game I watched not being interesting, but looking into it more now, it seems pretty decent.
Despite Vita being stronger than 3DS I think RER2 looked worse. It also doesn't play particularly well. This might just be a me problem, but what you're supposed to do isn't clear and combat is way harder.

The multiplayer mode was still fun, that's worth checking it out for alone imo.

Getting RER2 on switch was one of the biggest returns on investment I ever got. Raid mode was so fucking addictive and I loved the fact I could take it on the go.

Unpopular opinion but I think cutting the mold saga short to just two games and doing a soft reboot of the original timeline with 2make, 4make ect was the right call.
Crapcum will never commit to something like this

Ethan was boring as a protagonist and the magic mold was extremely stupid.
Ethan was a fantastic protagonist in village, while i love 5, 6 and both rev games they take themselves too serioisly, 4 shouldve been the standard for writing for these games. After 7 nothing really should bother ethan, every line oozes (not this shit again...) I love how fed up and confident he is. He's genuinely cool in a way we haven't seen in a game since the early 00's. It reminds me of seeing dante for the first time in dmc1. He upstages chris who's just an asshole the whole game for no reason.

I like village overall quite a bit aside from the village of shadows difficulty. The only major issue i have is that its core gameplay is resource management and it wastes two sections on gimmicks that dont use resources, the doll house and the tank fight. The doll house is also way too long for repeat playthroughs. It also has crafting from 7 along with the shop from 4 which I feel is redundant, re4make does this as well and also adds spinels and range tokens, too much going on. Im upset by the ending its a shame we'll never see more ethan.

Also lycans are incredibly fun to fight because of their movement, i could see people hating it because of playing on a gamepad though same with re4make's shooting range which i have to imagine is impossible.

Oh, and I think it's retarded that Ethan didn't side with Heisenberg or whatever his name was. He was clearly sympathetic to him and Ethan could use all the help he could get, but he ended up bitching out.
"Hey man, listen, I know I may sound like a really bad dude, but all I did with that death course was test you to make sure you were up to snuff. So, want to help me take down the creepy mold lady running the show?"
"Uh.. sure, I guess."
"Cool, grab your dismembered daughter's body parts and we can use her..."
"Wait, what? No fuck off man, I'm not letting you anywhere near my daughter."
"I'll have to toss you down this pit filled with horrid Slavpunk cyborg monsters if you refuse."
"Yeah, you know what then, go fuck yourself and toss me down the pit. I've already lived through three certain death situations since I've arrived, so what's one more?"

As far as I'm concerned it was perfectly fitting to give the creepy guy a big middle finger. Smart? No. But sometimes its about the actual principle of the matter. Its like a Frenchman threatening to break your arm unless you say you like crepes. Even if you really do love crepes, fuck that arrogant son of a bitch. Your arm will heal, but his pride won't.

With Village's ending it looked at least initially like Rosmary Winters was going to the protagonist going forward but with the soft reboot of the original timeline I don't think that's going to happen anymore.

I hate how theyre re-writing the whole series. New leon being ptsd driven in his personality is lame and makes the times when he does something badass stand out as weird. The part where he just shoots salazar in the face cause hes fed up is fantastic, its a great script change but it doesnt work because an hour later hes about to cry over killing krauser.

The dlc is a joke in terms of writing, Wesker shows up in person TWICE and both times just scurries back to his secret lab somewhere in the world immediately after. The idea that Ada changes her mind over the sample and its krauser that he gets it from is just silly when he couldve retrieved it himself with ease. Someone explain the logistics of the laptop he gives her too, what is it detonating? Did he set bombs? Then why does it need to be plugged into their computer? Is it activating their bombs? Why did ada make it blow up less of the island? What is going on there? It makes no sense at all.

Yea no, that's the best scene in the game. Ethan's just: "whatever's down there I'm gonna kick its ass and be back here to kick yours soon after". Ethan's confidence and snark in village is the best thing about that game.

Yup. The "Do it, faggot!" vibes are real at that point.

RE4 killed the series classic mystery, confinement, and secrecy of the series 20 years back and its a shame because Capcom desperately wants everyone to forget about this shit for some reason. I think the last game that was made that really stuck to this was Revelations 1 with RE7 as a close second.

These were the last games that really felt like you were seeing stuff you weren't supposed to and that there was actual effort in keeping things secret from the outside world. I always liked that in the classic games because RE2 and RE3 are why all the security of the mansion in the mountains and its cruelty existed. These were the consequences of playing god early on in the series and it was tame in comparison to the new lore being "I can be a comic book villain if I play god? Sign me up!"

Even though thats not a far fetched response in anyway in reality, the writers and producers of the franchise cant stop crutching on this shit. The series went from going in 1 direction, stopping Umbrella. Games 1-code V brought you one step closer to this clearly focused goal. But then RE4 said the government steps in and shuts everyone down, the end.

The franchise has been stuck in a sort of episodic TV drama where the characters have a new villain every season and they no longer have that focused goal, nor do the writers take advantage of a truly horrifying concept of after Umbrella is shut down having all the scumbags at the top who got away setting up their own private Bio weapon companies with all the private data they could steal so business resumes as normal. That would have kept the original goal of the series somewhat in tact for me anyways.

I get more and more depressed with this franchise the more games they put out. Makes me appreciate the simplicity of games 1-code v in retrospect and sad at the same time due to how piss poor the remakes of the classics have all been.

I really doubt they're going to backpedal on the Winters arc, especially with how RE8 ended. They'll go with the corrupt BSAA bullshit and have it a Chris game.

They'll bring back Wesker 1 final time too. Probably because out of ideas, but wesker was revealed to be alive in the awful Umbrella corps shooter Capcom release, which was revealed to be cannon. I think that was DC Douglas final performance as him and it was just like 2 short lines in game.

I've been wondering for a while if they'll ever do anything with the weird Wesker "clone" plot they started in Revelations 2 with fem Wesker

Revelations 3 was like 30- 50% of the way done when the games development changed it to RE8. Least thats what the rumors say and I think it was partially verified by the Capcom hack where all the documents on RE and other games.

I think it was Barry perusing the little girl, now a teenager, into the Carpathian mountains or something where Alex Wesker takes mostly full control and tries to either pick up where she left off or just returns to a secret abandoned Umbrella base that some other loony has taken over. But theres only rumors about this now. I'm sure some confirmation on this a few years down the road.

She's given an arc between RE2-4 in the original. A somewhat green agent that let emotion takeover, to becoming the super agent that was all business. In this, she's the same as she was in 2make with really no growth whatsoever.
Character arcs don't sell. Too complex for most gamers today.

The woman has to be either a girlboss or emotionally manipulable (mostly so that Japanese coomers feel like they could rape it). There is no inbetween.

They've already planted the seeds of his return.

RE6 = Clones

Rev2 = Mind transference

I don't think anyone would disagree that the series became lost in the weeds after they killed off the only mainstay villain they had.

Alex Wesker was getting high billing, and only pops her head up for one game and forgotten about.

Clones are actually old hat, introduced in Umbrella Chronicles with Sergei Vladimir, both him and his 1980's Soviet-produced clones used as part of the Tyrant Project. Wesker having a secret laboratory with at least one genetically enhanced ubermensch clone of his injected with a cocktail of every virus under the sun he could snatch up from Umbrella as a backup plan in case Ouroboros doesn't work out is pretty much him to a T.

No that was a re5 plot thread. all the clones were failed except albert and "alex" which was left gender ambiguous with the name. As soon as I saw the trailer for rev2 I knew who it was though because of those notes. I know its unreasonable to read that many notes in 5 which is a coop game especially because theyre all crammed into the same chapter but thats what those were about. With alex's death theres no more wesker clones. It was a pretty bad retcon anyway.
