I imagine it will be good mechanically, since Capcom has by now figured out how to make the formula work.I don't know if RE9 is/will be good.
They're obviously not doing anything radical here, just copying RE2R and RE4R and tweaking the mechanics a bit. Capcom hasn't made an actually bad RE game in a long time - even RE3R was fun to play, despite being a glorified DLC for RE2R in all but name.
I also assume the first location will be pretty well-polished, while the other 2/3 of the game will be an afterthought, just like it was the case with RE2R, RE7, RE8 et al.
As for the narrative, as I said before, I never much cared about the story in any of the RE games, and especially not about the overarching narrative (despite being a massive storyfag), so I really won't be all that bothered unless Capcom writers did something monumentally retarded/cringe.
I still think trying to cram RE2R and RE4R into a single game is a bad idea, since the two playstyles are so radically different and require distinct map and enemy designs to work - just try to imagine going through the police station as RE4R Leon, parrying, punching, kicking and supplexing everything in your way to get an idea of how hard Capcom have made things for themselves by having the two characters share the same locale.
