because most people dont care about games and only care about superficial things like setting. Also I wouldn't say 8 is an upgrade, 7 is very solid but too short whereas 8 is a full length game but padded. The doll house is a waste of 30 minutes every playthrough with no core mechanics or different way to play it (besides exploits) and the lake is equally as barron with minor timing puzzles. At least there's a decent boss at the end of it. But overall you have this large chunk in the middle of the game that's just going through the motions. The game clearly sets you up to do 3 more dungeons after the 1st by listing out the 4 heads for you and unfortunately 2 of those are back to back gimmicks which makes replaying 8 a slog.
I also question the fact that 8 has item crafting, a shop which allows you to buy ammo now, and weapon attachments resulting in redundant systems. Stocks and scopes in the original re4 offered something upgrades didnt but in village many attachments are just stat upgrades and since they obtained exclusively through purchase it begs the question why they exist. Why have the hairpull trigger increase shotgun rate of fire when you can already purchase a rate of fire upgrade? If you found it as loot itd make more sense.
