Personally the biggest issue with the writing for 9 outside of the retcons is the amount of dumb bitch juice Grace has to drink for the plot to progress. I know there's going to be some contrived moments but she just chooses the worst decisions constantly from minute 1. A bed full of proof you're getting gangstalked? Doesn't call for backup. The cop got turned and you had to kill him? Didn't call anyone. Got bit by a zombie which are very public knowledge including the effects? Zero calls home. Weird sounds deeper in the hotel? Fuck it. I know other RE games have this to some degree but it's all they use to move her along.
Don't forget.

Joined the bad guys because Leon shot a bio weapon trying to kill them. After he had repeatedly tried to protect her and they clearly wanted her for something bad.

I understand how stupid it was but not nearly as stupid as

That's a fucking lie. I shot that little shit in the head. I wasn't even happy having to shoot Emily, but stating I didn't hit vitals was Marvel tier levels of retarded "aksually spider-man DIDN'T die! despite watching him fucking die" nonsense.

Out of boredom I picked up the Requiem controller for Switch 2. I like having variants to keep track of which of my controllers is newer so I can break them in evenly but the design is as terrible as I expected. The most obvious offender is the bad spacing of Resident Evil around the Switch 2 logo, resulting in it being RESIDE VIL(hilariously, vil can mean cheap or worthless in some languages). The shot of the RPD is missing the front door due to the d-pad and the triggers and sticks that were gray are now also a boring jet black. The shiny matte finish of the rest of the controller is nice though and better than the original pro controller for Switch 2. Sadly I'm still tempted to get the triple pack of 7-9 cause it's arguably a good deal but only lasts for a couple more weeks.

I was watching a friend go through Grace's sections again and it occurred to me the breakables don't have the yellow markings like they do in Leon's sections. I guess they used gun and ball gamers to test that part of the game :story:

get the Gulikit controllers, they are very high quality for the price.

EasySMX are also pretty damn good, anything that looks decent with Hall Effect sticks are preferable as its basically impossible to get stick drift.

Yeah I'm familiar with Gulikit but have never bought one. Didn't know about EasySMX though. I do have an official Black Myth Wukong controller with hall effect sticks (wired only but detachable for 20 bucks) for PC gaming although the d-pad is kind of crappy.

Villains: Say Grace is the key to everything and that she's needed alive - repeatedly put her in situations where she is likely to be killed.
Thats the same in re4 even if we assume Leon is expendable, despite the fact that they constantly say he'll join them soon. A LOT of enemies straight up try to kill Ashley, not capture her.

Same with Ustanak in 6, they want them alive but for some reason he's using a mining drill in chapter 2.

amazingly they can write amazing shit, they can completely ignore and cut out the shit that doesn't matter, and create stories that completely avoid Post-Ironic cringe and embrace and indulge total sincerity on almost anything.

Its how they made this franchise work, Western costal faggots would wax endlessly about making Grace being sent to her Mom's death site being done with realism and believable reasons, Japs? yea her Nigger boss just sends her there, case fucking closed, fuck you.

Its that sort of gordian knot cutting that really needs to happen in other games and even movies.. never in a million years would a Coastal Fag write a scene like in DMCV where Dante does Michael Jackson moves with his new Hat Weapon or when Dante and Virgil pettily argue over if Virgil beats Nero in a fight that means Virgil is in fact "the winner" of their 40 year fued.
I spent time yesterday reading how Kojima got the shits because the bloke who translated MGS 1 gave it flavour and made the script less retarded. Asian story telling sensibilities are simply too autistic for western tastes though fanfiction tragics are catching up. Gordian Knot cutting is fine, as is not ruminating, but you can meet in the middle where you get to the point without people going 'what the fuck? why don't they just do X? Why did they do X instead of Y?' which is a constant in this game and completely unnecessary. The behind the scenes 'Why did this happen?' answer, 'Because the plot needs to happen.' is legitimate if the Why makes a tiny bit of sense in context. This game was obviously bent to fit a narrative flow, I understand, but you can at least try to smooth the immersion breaking stuff. There's no way 'I didn't hit any of her vitals' at the end of the game could be fixed with the forced happy ending they wanted without spending more time and money. I've been a fan of Resident Evil since before this century, I don't expect high art, but I do expect when my immersion is broken it's because it was on purpose.

I'm going to remind you guys, the events in RE9, all of them, are less silly and contrived, By ALOT, than the rest of the franchises.
Let me just list some contrivances.
1. In Resident Evil 1, no one has a radio at any point during the July Arklay Incident, not to talk to each other, or to try and contact outside forces, despite being, roughly, about 9 miles from the City, none of them could radio in the very least Brad, who could radio or get help from the RPD.

2, In Resident Evil 2, somehow, Leon and Claire make it into the city, despite by this point, the entire US Military blocading off its entrances with a massive force, including tanks, for the last few days, despite it being a "mountain town" meaning there would likely be very few entrances in and out, also Leon hears nothing in the radio, despite the very huge likelihood that every station would be blaring emergency recordings.

3, in Resident Evil 3, its never explained or elaborated on what the FUCK Jill is doing for about 4 days of the outbreak, she neither helps the Police nor tries to escape till the situation is so completely FUBAR that its unreal, this a minor one but an oddity.

4. in RE.CV, its never even mentioned how Chris Redfield, in about 4 hours, reaches an obscure island off the coast of South Africa, considering the plot of the entire game takes place over about a day and a half, nor is it explained how a Cargo plane makes it to Antartica in a few hours, despite, just ballparking it, would take at least 12+, also the sheer convienance that Wesker attacks the island the day after Claire gets captured.

5, RE5 has the impossible convenience of Wesker's grand plan happening less than 24 hours on Chris's arrival to his trail, mind you, Chris had no idea Wesker was even alive.

there's alot more things but you get it.

That was just Wesker waiting for Chris to catch up to him so that he had an audience for his Grand Plan, after all being a true villain requires PRESSENTATION!

yes, that's the actual reason, but people want to bitch about RE9's insanity, as if the entire franchise isn't full of contrivances and insane actions.
MULTIPLE people try to TAKE OVER THE WORLD or kill all life on it, some for petty reasons like "a pervert made me look like an Asian Femdom".

This just isn't true.

She's fighting zombies, the game opens with her exploding through a wall.

she's literally an Autistic Sped, she likely completely spedded out.
I would agree if it wasn't for the fact that it was established her first reaction to danger is to call the police when something bad happens.

Like I said, I understand there are and have to be contrivences for the video game to happen. The issue is that it's Grace actively and constantly making the situation worse for the plot to progress.

RE9 has really brought out the pitch forks in the RE community. Everyone is clashing on all sides. RE7 fans don't like Leon stuff. RE4 fans don't like Grace stuff. New fags are happy it's a new Triple A third person shooter. Old fags are upset it's all nostalgia. It's a complete shit show where no one seems happy with the direction the games went except tourists wanting more modern slop.

No offence, but the crazier RE7 fans have plenty of modern FPS horror games to choose from.

I am deeply upset and very angry you have offended me.

They have a lot of walking sims. I don't know many modern horror FPS unless you consider those the same thing. And having RE on the cover is like having SH, people buy the brand even if it's bad. This game was very hyped up despite Capcom having gone to shit again

She did try to help, but nobody believed the S.T.A.R.S member because Irons and the media smeared them. She then tried finding some dirt on Umbrella while planning on getting out but shit went sideways and she got stuck in the middle of the outbreak.

I'm surprised you didn't mention the ass-pull in RE7 where you just so happen to be in another mansion that Spencer built, or that stupid chainsaw fight.

I always thought that it was implied in CV that Alfred was somehow remotely controlling the cargo plane to force it to crash land in Antarctica, although why he would do that instead of just crashing it into the fucking ocean to rid himself of Claire and Steve [and how the fuck a rich sheltered crossdresser guy knows how to fly a fucking Harrier, or where the fuck Steve learned to fly a cargo plane] are all outstanding questions. Chris did time in the Air Force, so him flying the Harrier is... I dunno, halfway believable? I mean at least he's actually flown a fucking plane before, though he probably wouldn't be familiar with the Harrier nor VTOL planes, but we can overlook that.

Found an interesting video on RE9's development. It doesn't say much but what it did explains a lot. RE9 we got isn't the original design. After RE7 failed to meet early sales they decided to go for an open world coop shooter with Jill and Leon. Development started on this and then RE7's sales really picked up and Capcom were in a mess because now they had RE7 selling more than any other title, with it's first person VR focus and RE2 remake / 4 fanbase wanting more of that. The "2nd" RE9 after they tossed out the original was going to be a Leon focused survival horror game rather than an action game, but they thought Leon was too experienced for that at this point. So they made Grace, to put into Leon's environments as an RE7 style experience. We return to RPD because it's assets they already had and could repurpose. Same reason Mr X returns and the mirrored boss version. The reason Grace disappears for so long is because she was never part of the original (2nd) design. She was added so they could milk RE7's fan base some more. The video claimed Capcom were in contact with e celebs telling them how to hype up Grace and say it's her game. Because they knew everyone would like Leon and want Leon, with Grace being a side character no one cared for. Intentionally hiding Leon and instructing youtube on how to respond to Grace despite her being a secondary character they did a hatch job on the game to fit in.

Jill being unpopular in RE3:make, RE7 not selling 10 million copies week 1 and 2/4 remake being popular has lead to this shit show. Capcom's development pipeline is so tight they don't have time to adapt and learn from the previous game. So when something doesn't go as expected it all falls apart and they fall back on RE2 nostalgia. And remember they killed off the entire Outbreak cast to make this. In a note.

The early RE9 prototype footage at the start is cool if you just want to see the proto types.
