RE has really lost it's identity at this point. It doesn't even know what genre it is any more. The series desperately needs to do a fresh reboot and get rid of all the baggage. But Capcom won't because Leon and Chris sell. So instead of telling it's own small story away from all the wank, we'll get even more wank to sell to the fanboys like 9.
i think capcom is trying different kinds of horror with RE, but one thing you cant take away from RE is some sort of combat as gameplay. it cant be like pure non combat horror games like outlast or other walking sims or it wouldnt be RE

I would love them to try more Lovecraftian horror. Revelations 1 was almost lovecraftian with deepsea themes but it was still lacking

I finished RE Requiem. Everyone I know is saying it is the best Resident Evil game ever. It's highly reviewed on Steam. I don't get it. The entire game felt poorly paced and full of cheap fan service. They should've had Leon and Grace's stories separate, but they chose to have you play as both of them in one very annoying campaign. As soon as things got interesting with Grace or I was enjoying Leon's combat, it would switch to the other character, AND HOLY FUCK is the writing bad. This might be the worst writing in a RE game. I uninstalled immediately after finishing it.
It's weird... it's almost like all the people who were given bribes free games by Capcom say it is the greatest thing ever, and all those who weren't influenced by the influencers influencing... say it was fucking filled with problems. Interesting that...

Regardless of what you think, RE9 is not a better game than RE4 or REmake, period. Everything it does was done better in another game in the franchise. Moreover, many of its set pieces were also done in other RE games, Dead Space, and even MGS4 (on-rails motorcycle, dying old man hallway, and a return to "shadow moses" (RPD)).

BSAA, Connections, Blue Umbrella and all that shit just need to be erased and forgotten. Either a hard reboot where Umbrella doesn't collapse after RE2 or just pretend it doesn't exist. I am sick of stinger endings that mean literally nothing. Not a single thing at the end of RE7 mattered, it's not followed up in the movies or the games. It's just stupid.

Send 1/2 agents into a bio weapon break out. Have an operator in your ear for support and be done with it. Who do Leon and Sherry work for? Doesn't matter. The set up worked. If you're not an agent then it's just a random dude with no support in their ear.

I agree to an extent, a what if timeline would be good, and could avoid the "must happen in the year thr game came out" shit, which is the core of our problem here

I get the feeling Capcom regrets doing away with Umbrella. And that they REALLY regret killing off Wesker.

I mean, the problem with a game about lovecraftian horror is true Eldrich horrors don't even recognize humans exist, nevermind perceive them as a threat. Making Resident Evil with a villain so powerful he can't even fathom such weak and pathetic creatures as us could even exist while being older than our universe while frightening makes the idea of fighting it and still having the feeling you cannot truly win impossible. Like, how would we end it? Fuck it we all die? Or somehow this gigantic monstrocity so powerful and so old it can't even fathom the characters who were practically born yesterday to it exist gets taken out with an RPG-7 or a .50+ calibur handcanon?

I like Leon and Chris, they remind me of the cool action heroes of the 80s. And though I did really enjoy Requiem, and I'm on my third playthrough to complete challenges, I totally understand why people say the ping ponging between Grace and Leon, horror and action makes it feel like a disjointed mess, but I do think each do their parts very well. I just wish they could find the sweet spot to make the action parts feel like horror as well. I hear Dead Space did it well, but I didn't really play much of that.

Umbrella collapsing made sense after Racoon City, but they could've preserved that Umbrella vibe by having all the executives splinter off into their own evil companies instead of killing them all in spin offs or flashback cutscenes. Wesker definitely should've been preserved longer though.

But we have Wesker at home

Sorry, I really fucking hate that meme too.

Or have Umbrella deny everything, the heroes aren't believed and now Umbrella is trying to take them out to silence them.

Wesker never should have come back after 1. Him dying was an important part of the story. Adding fucking super man as a villain makes no sense. And Wesker actually being behind everything is just dumb. Same with Ada always turning up to flash some tits then leave. It's okay to leave characters gone. Either give Ada an actual story or get rid of her. She's the exact same faggot since RE2 and it's getting tiresome.

While I completely agree about the eldritch abominations beyond human comprehension part, I'd argue that RE never really does the Lovecraftian horror thing. Yes, you have megalomaniacs that want to ascend to what they think is godhood, but they're still mortal in some way and can be killed.

It's fun when it wants to be but much like 7-8 once you're done the first area it implodes.

4make is ten times the game requiem is even with the shooting jank.

That's what the Connections is, its just all the loose ends and business end of the shit taking Umbrella's shit, and has been doing so since 1999 (and likely before, Ada likely did jobs for them).

I kinda get it though. It was by then a year over the ten year anniversary. I don't think Wesker's death would make the series feel so empty ever since as much if they replaced him with someone worthwhile.

After that we get Simmons who sucked ass, and dies in one game. Next we get faggot Eveline, who dies in her game too. Miranda could've been a mainstay villain, but she's gone too. Alex is pretty much forgotten about, but with the timeline, she should be like what 20 years old or so now.

With RE6 cloning, Rev 2 mind transference... which is also referenced in Requiem I think even in the Orphanage flashback. I think they've long established planting seeds for his return. And with Lessker making a appearance in this, I think it's market research to see if it's worth it to revive him.

The problem with all that is 8 felt like those shitty straight to DVD Hellraiser sequels, like Hellraiser: Inferno or Hellworld where you could obviously tell those movies were NOT made to be Hellraiser films but the distribution company just had to something with the Hellraiser series or risk losing it, so they just slapped the name on the cover and shoehorned Pinhead somewhere in a movie that had nothing to do with it originally.

That's what 8 felt like. A placeholder for the series while they tried to figure out what the fuck to do with the REAL Resident Evil series, and then shoehorned the Umbrella logo at the ceremony site so they can go "See! It is Resident Evil!"
