The time limit on the RE2 demo was removed...and now you can hear Nemesis behind the wall. He sounds horrible - in a good way. Really unsettling. Imagine hearing this voice behind you in the dark.

I haven't played Remake 2 but did they ever put zombie Brad into it?

Resident Evil has a very interesting history.

RE1 itself was supposed to be a remake of the old classic Famicom horror game Sweet Home. Some of the discarded ideas were 1st person view, and co-op. And I think every one and their mother knows about the history of RE2.

After RE2 however, Capcom was at a loss on where to take the series, since it has a city setting. So, they tried many things, one is a camera that follows the player, and put dinosaurs, but it became too different, so it was developed to its own game as Dino Crisis. Then, they tried to set it in feudal Japan, with zombies and samurai, it became too different, so it became Onimusha. Unfortunately, they stopped developing on it, it was supposed to be released for PS1, but was put back in the back-burner to be eventually worked on and was released for PS2

I believe that they were making 3 back then and was supposed to be a bigger blockbuster than RE2, when Sony announced PS2, and so RE3 prototype was scrapped completely. But the executives thought that 1999 without a RE on playstation will kill RE, so they put Mikami on RE3, and the Kamiya on supposed to be RE4. If I can recall correctly, Mikami almost quit because of this, since the project time has to be shortened. And if I can recall correctly, to finish it on time, it was made with some recycled assets from 2.

Now, Kamiya on 4 was dead on set on using Leon and set on a castle setting. Unfortunately, I believe it was using a bit of the code that was used on Onimusha. It had a bug that kept enemies floating. it made the game too actiony and was developed to its own thing, which became Devil May Cry (now you can't unsee Dante as Leon)

Well, there are more interesting tidbits here and there, like RE 0's sound bits are taken directly from the N64 version and many more, but that is a story for another day

I think you have a few facts wrong.

While the engine may have been originally created for RE3 I highly doubt there was any version of a Resident Evil game that had dinosaurs, I'm also not sure whether Onimusha started life as a Resident Evil game either, although it was originally for PS1.

And the version of RE4 that became Devil May Cry starred a character named Tony, not Leon, the Leon version came after that.

(Sperging ahead, I hold that I may be totally wrong as well!)
To be fair Leon and Claire entered *after* the breakdown in the original (canon), so most of the infrastructures had broken down. As far as RE3, iirc it’s seen as taking place both before, during, and after RE2 (I believe during Jill’s time where she’s “out” is when RE2 happens). It was also never supposed to be a full game, it was like a standalone dlc before dlc was really a thing. That’s why they’re so similar and yet seemingly incongruent.

I 100% could be wrong, it’s been literal decades since I’ve played anything besides the remakes and Code Veronica X (itself a remaster), and a lot of my memory comes from Josh Ryuk’s “TIHYDP: Lets Teach” series with DSPs content. I highly recommend you watch it, even if you’re not a fan of TIHYDP as he is quite knowledgeable on lore and is open to speculation and correction.
I believe in original canon 3 starts the day before 2, then when Jill is recovering RE2 starts that night and ends the following morning, and then that night Jill wakes up and 3 concludes. I am recalling this from memory, but I think this is the proper timeline. I used to have a book that compiled all the lore, art, and such on 1-CV including 2.5 and survivor but many many years of moving and such has made it lost to me.

My knowledge of RE 2 saved my ass in my first playthrough of 3 though, because I was hurt bad and could not find herbs, so on a hunch I hobbled Jills ass to the S.T.A.R.S. office because I remembered in 2 there was a first aid spray in a med kit on the wall by the radio. It was there and saved my life. . . until I got eaten by a worm from being too slow to flip a switch.

Edit: Actually that might not be right, at least if its canon that you can see the RE 2 truck in the background by the trolly or gas station. But if thats not the same truck then it does not affect my timeline theory.

The Umbrella Archives vol. 1 which is an awesome bible for any western fan.
Thats the one. I need to order me another copy of that. My copy was well worn because the original trilogy of Resident Evil games were bar none my favorite games of the PS1. I liked all of it, the terrible voice acting, the cheesy story, the corny puzzles, the tank controls, all of it. I remember sitting in my room in front of my 13' color tv/vcr combo and getting to the guard house in 1, and I finally had an aha moment and pushed the statues over the plant 42 holes. And fucking Wesker shooting the damn bee's.

I warmed up to the new Jill design. Its basically her RE1 STARS costume but she lost the STARS Jacket. Still don't like that they reused Leon's Glock as her default gun.

I did hear the STARS from the RE 2 RPD demo and boy...

That shit sounds scary and dope

I will need to hear it more but I actually felt a chill hearing it (something didnt happen since RE3 itself). Imagine you are roaming around and you hear that STARS (or some variation of it, Im sure there will be many depending on what "Mood" nemesis is at the moment) and he just Kool-Aid Man his way through the wall right on your front and you barely have time to react and run before he starts attacking if not out right one hit killing you.

My boi Nemesis is back, baby.

Okay so I downloaded the RPD demo since I actually have a PC that is capable of running RE2 and I wanted to see how well it would perform (mostly out of curiosity since the only real benchmark game I own is Doom 2016). As soon as I start up the game it looks fine but the lights all start dimming, as if all the light is just vanishing. And this is in the normally brightly lit main hall of the station. It's not a brightness issue since turning it up doesn't make the lights come back; it just makes the dark oversaturated. I fumble my way to the east wing like in the main game so Leon can take out his flashlight but his flashlight barely illuminates anything.

This is so bizarre and I have no idea what's causing it. I'm assuming it's some sort of glitch since my rig is capable of running it, it's just the lights suddenly dim and vanish I know for a fact that's not normal, but literally no one else has mentioned it.

Your comp is haunted. You have to destroy it before it destroys you.

I found the issue. Turns out the latest Nvidia GPU graphics driver breaks the game, causing the bug that makes everything go dark. What's fucked up is that this information is pinned on the official troubleshooting guide on Steam, meaning someone at Capcom is at least aware of the issue, but they recommend downloading an older driver.

I don't know, that is helpful, but if Capcom is aware of it I'd rather they fix the issue themselves.

Holy shit, everything makes sense now with that. Thank you.

Its hard to tell what the next move for the franchise will be. I feel like 3 is a good book end to remakes for now, and while they could make 1 work I don't think it improve as much as the original remake did.

Honestly if I were in Capcom head office I would use the remake series as a springboard for the most ambitious of projects

Resident Evil 4.....the prototype version

Literally go full alternate-continuity and start a new series based on what was originally planned for RE4, which appeared to be a mix of old school resident evil and certain elements of both the release build of RE4 and RE5.

Keep it focused on Umbrella, maybe alter the wesker plotline to have him killed off early before he goes memetically cringy and he randomly becomes this ultra powerful clone god instead, and finally, perhaps most importantly of all....

Have Leon end the game hitching up with Claire so his aryan sperm can continue the Redfield bloodline for the betterment of all humanity

Admittedly im biased here because I member loving the look of this early build of the game way back when, and would kill to see a full length version of what they had planned

I think a remake of Code Veronica is more likely.
I think Code Veronica would be the way to go since there already was REmake and even with X Code Veronica is probably the most overlooked entry into the main franchise.

I also think there shouldn't be a remake for 1 again. I'd like for 1 to always remain as a reminder of the series's roots with fixed camera angles and everything.
