Anyway, finished RE3 last night, only playing it in small sections as I knew how short it would be. Will agree with the general consensus that it is a good game whilst it lasts, which isn't all that long. Biggest let down is Nemesis is really only a set piece now, when the game was first announced I had visions of Mr X on steroids, appearing at random throughout the campaign to ruin your day. It really needed another area and second scenario, although maybe we will get some DLC.
I think they didnt have to add another area, simply expand on the existing ones in the original and perhaps have more original characters (and maybe more ties to RE 2). I still love the RE 3 Demo, it felt just like I expected a proper REmake 3 being like, its the main game that I think started to drop the ball after returning to the subway and going to the sewers...
I originally thought "oh shit, are we going to have some sort of G-Birkin reference here?", maybe some roar from Birkin looking for Sherry and Jill is like "What the fuck was that...?!". I wasnt asking for a Birkin boss fight (as that would ruin the continuity) but just some sort of nod or connection. I loved RE 2 and 3's dynamic of both being set in the same time frame mostly and with recurring locations, ocassionally dropping connections and I just think they didnt properly utilized that in REmake 3. When Carlos goes to the RPD (when it should have been Jill), I thought the wall hole in the RPD would be explained or something (only the bathroom's get its origin) but no, its not there but we dont get any sort of implication as to how it got there between 3 and 2 (since 3 happens first), aparently we are just supposed to go "Nah, it will be fine" *chugs vodka*
Guess as a RE 3 fanboy (or rather OG trilogy fanboy) I can go on and on but you get what I mean.

Perhaps a better start would have been to follow the original, with Jill fighting regular enemies for the first 30 minutes or so, then Nemesis showing up. Or have had her team up with some RPD officers to save some civilians, then Nemesis turn up and murder everyone. Feels like a lot of missed potential from what happened at the early stages of the outbreak when there were still plenty of civilians and no one knew what was going on.

I expected we would see the RPD with civilians and cops still in it, trying to figure out what the hell is going on and what to do. Maybe have Marvin and Brad acting like Jill's companions in the first part, then Mr N appears, murders Brad after he bravely tries to protect Jill and maybe Nemesis just breaks into the RPD, killing anyone on his path to get to his lucky STARS. During the confusion, Marvin gets bitten after hesitating to shoot one of his fellow officers (maybe it could be a reanimated Brad like in the remake), the remaining survivors and cops escape perhaps on a police van or something as Jill lures Nemesis out of the RPD and the zombies begin breaking in. Marvin stays behind willingly to not endanger others (maybe Elliot was left behind by accident) and sits in the hall of the RPD, coming with the terms of his now slow death by infection. THEN Jill could meet with Carlos and the others, leading to the subway section and thus demo onward. Imagine the amount of cameos we could have had with maybe Kevin from the outbreak games being one of the cops, along with officer Philips (maybe its just me still salty we got Resistance instead of Outbreak remake, which would have worke wonders on today's online world). It would have been neat to have a walking section through the RPD with the lights on and NPCs roaming around.
I just really hate unfullfilled potential, especially when Capcom had no excuse for such a lackluster game after REmake 2 sold like water and REmake 3 having a longer time to make

I actually hope we dont learn anything new about him, you know why? Simple, I think that the fact he isnt explained and, all things considered, is possibly supernatural (he is literally everywhere with access to everything) is one of the things that I think add to RE 4's charm. The Supernatural is almost never a thing in RE, its usually always explained as hallucinations and viruses, whatever, so a healthy touch of the unknown was nice for that game. I would have loved if they kept him for future entries and still didnt bother to explain much if anything at all. The fact we dont know is one of the reasons why he is such a fascinating merchant, because all things considered, he shouldnt even exist at all.
All I want is a post credit epilogue scene of him in a boat sailing away from the island showing he survived because this time Leon didn't forget to tell him everything was gonna blow up. Also his boat is filled to bursting with treasure and guns.

He's gonna be a hidden superboss this time around, the more stuff you've sold and bought from him the stronger he gets.

You mean him and his 50 twins? You kill one and they'll never spawn in that area again though all the others remain completely unchanged so I've always ascribed to the idea that there's a whole horde of them. Plus that'd require him to run ahead of Leon to the next area every time (while simultaneously being able to get back in time if Leon decides to backtrack). The more merchants there are running around, the merrier.

Holy shit, its a family of merchant twins, just like nurse Joy...

Unless you're playing on Professional in which case one shot and he'd gone for good.

Not that I learnt this the hard way or anything.

Isnt that the same in every difficulty? I could be wrong, I never killed him and then went on with the game for very long to reach the next merchant spot.

Finished Inferno, last boss is purely a matter of mastering dodging because it one-shots you, unless you have both defense coins and then you can take 2-hits when the majority of its attacks are 3-hit combos. It wasn't fun and soured the game more for me.

Years ago, i read a fanfic where it pretty much happens what you said, it also explained why despite being seemingly infected by las plagas he never attacked you nor was part of Saddler's army, it was a nice read, it was in spanish though

Can I just mention I demand the return of Joe Baker
motherfucker doesn't need guns except the ones he was born with on his arms. His punches are so powerful that they kill molded in just a few hits before they can even fight back. He fucking kills his own brother when not even Ethan with a cure was able to do it, WITH HIS BARE HANDS. All to save his beloved niece Zoe.

Chris can punch a boulder
Joe can punch a mountain

The guy could take on Wesker with his techno gauntlet

Joe: you know, sonny, you talk too much, perhaps a few broken teeth and dislocated jaw will fix that ego.
Wesker: seven minutes, seven minutes is all I can spare to play with you.
Joe: *crack knuckles* give me 5 and then we are talking...

Just utter badassness I demand returns in the future

Just want to say that FF7 was the bigger fuckup because Nomura went out of his way to fuck shit up. RE3 was a victim to shitty decision making.

I mean, I would say that FF7 and RE3 both screw up equally as a remake.

FF7 screws up as a remake because it turns out its not a freaking remake. Its more of a sequel that takes place in an alternate universe to the original game and Advent Children, caused by Sephiroth basically traveling back to the past and taking everything off the rails. It basically fails as a remake and should have been sold as a sequel, though I guess they wanted to hide it as a spoiler.

RE3 also fails as a remake because it pretty much changes or removes almost everything about the original, including the entire latter half of the game. It even changes the ending.

I'm very disappointed to hear RE3 remake has some flaws, but it's been 16 years since I played the original so I don't even remember it too well.

Tell me, with all the talk of cut areas, do you still at least go to the hospital?

As for a RE4 remake I'm ok with that for two reasons, one is that a big part of what made RE4 so intense at the time was how stunning the graphics looked but those graphics have aged pretty poorly which takes a lot of the excitement away, I'd love to see those environments rendered with the modern engine.

And secondly I'm not as crazy about RE4 as most people are, I like it a lot but I do think there's room for improvement and expansion, but I don't want them to stray too far from the original tone, I want Leon to still crack some one liners and I want Ashley still in a skirt and sporting "ballistics"

With Capcom going as far as to remake 4 though I think all of the remakes should be considered a new continuity and they should ignore 5 and 6 completely, 7 can be "grandfathered in" but 4 remake should springboard into 8 and 8 should make it clear that 5 and 6 never happened, maybe they could even bring back Wesker?

You go to the hospital and its bigger, but there's no clocktower, graveyard, park and the dead factory got replaced by another lab.

Apparently Capcom is listening to what fans & critics are saying about RE3R for the RE4R. Let's hope that they realize that people don't want drastic changes and 5-6 hours of gameplay. :optimistic: :optimistic: Let's hope Shinji Mikami doesn't have the "briliant" idea to tell Capcom to create an new story since he wanted a remake in the first place.

I get that they don't want to tell the same old story. Same with the ff7 remake. But how about improving the flaws in the old games and adding new things that make sense instead of changing it so drastically? You don't have to reinvent the wheel.

There is a reason people love the old games over 20 years later. Use this and make the remake better. I think the next ff7 games are going to be worse in this regard.

Since RE4 is so beloved and so influential on the entire gaming industry, I'm hoping they take their time and treat it with the respect it deserves.
