Retro games and emulation - Discuss retro shit in case you're stuck in the past or a hipster

Speaking of emulators and add-ons, is there a simple way to use the GBA link cable for GameCube games using one emulator, or do you still need to open two seperate emulators for that?

How autistic are you all with storing games? I go back and forth on it, but I think I’ve settled on keeping full romsets on an external drive in case I need them, while my actual devices have only my favorites. It feels a lot more satisfying looking through a list of 100 NES games that I know I like than a list of 3000 roms where 80%+ of them are crap. Though it makes updating rom hacks more tedious since I like to keep them up to date but don’t like having to keep all my separate devices in parity.

I also don’t like how modern games are split up so that you have to install add-ons through the emulator menu, so I use Cemu to merge each Wii U game with its update and DLC into a single WUA file, and Switch Army Knife to do the same thing for Switch games.

My rom folder structure goes like:
E:/Emulation/(brands)/(consoles)/ and then it's just armageddon with unsorted hacks, translations, romsets, etc

and then I just have a second rom folder full of games I actually care about that I just keep on a flash drive that I just add to whenever I find something new I wanna play, and then I just dump that onto whatever new phone/game thing/computer I get

Dolphin can do this out of the box now. You need to go into the controller settings and change the controller in whatever port to "GBA (Integrated)."

It's so funny to me how to properly play MGS4 on RPCS3 you have to tweak the fuck out of the settings, but goddamn is it worth it.

It still does look awesome and blows MGS5 out of the water.

if you're looking for more super metroid, Subversion is easily the best one i've played.
Thanks, I tried the first ten minutes and other than the shrill train-whistle custom music, it looks pretty interesting. Will see how far I make it.

Completely unsurprised the rom-hacking community is pozzed. I don't mind too much as long as they don't shoehorn in the random trans crap. Not like anyone mentally healthy is going to dedicate thousands of hours to hacking old SNES games.

On storing games, I gave up a long time ago and just grab curated packs people put together. That saves hours and hours of mind-numbing work and also bypasses scraping, which is even more of a clusterfuck of terrible tools and websites.

Is Red Dead Redemption playable by now? I'm doing a playthrough of 2 and would love to try 1 after I'm done.

I know we wouldn't want to promote piracy now wouldn't we WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINK
I hope my ryzen 7 3800x can handle it, from what I've read ps3-xbox360 emulation doesn't do too well with AMD?
My 5600x+1050Ti combo runs RDR mostly at 30fps with some slowdowns on RPCS3. I don't know about Xenia because it doesn't work on Linux yet AFAIK.

James from Garbage Time just launched a retrogaming YT channel, and it's pretty comfy.

I've heard Xbox 360 emulation is getting good, but never tried it myself. Do you guys have any opinion on it?

I've been messing around with some romhacks to try to spice up some of the old classics. Most are unfiltered garbage, but there are a few that either update older games in an amazing way else add new content that's fun and balanced.
Snes Drunk has a whole bunch of videos about worthwhile hacks, from improvement patches to content.

I'd like to get a CRT but they're expensive and bulky.
How expensive? I'm in the UK and rarely see them, but I thought they were all but giving them away in the US in Goodwill (based on watching LGR Thrifts). I know there was a brief time were YouTubers were describing them as "lost technology".

Real world, I keep them on a shelf and try to avoid exposing them to sunlight, or I keep them in plastic storage tubs. I'd like to get more autistic with things like UV filters for the windows, but real life makes that difficult to impossible.

As for digital, it depends on the system. Anything before CDs are small enough that I keep a whole collection in a folder or zip file. For bigger games, I only download the ones I want, and keep them archived on backup drives for long term storage, keeping only my favourites/what I'm currently playing for easy access.

As for hacks, I keep them in their own folder where possible, unless there's only one or two.

Can you get the roms or whatever the equivalent for the xbox its called on Vimms lair or something?
Original Xbox, but not 360.

I’m still waiting for the audio issues to get resolved. Every game - without exception - has a half second delay on all audio. I also wish it had avatar support; it’s amazing how removing avatars strips 360 Uno of nearly all personality.

Goodwill in the US stopped taking them as early as 2015 and I think they’ve finally cleared out their stock. I was lucky enough to get a 27 inch Trinitron a few years ago, but the component input is broken and the picture is warped on the edges, and the service menu can only do so much.

Old new but I haven't seen anyone talking about these in the thread, and I'd like to know you opinion:

For all of these you will need the original source/iso.
As it leaves the boundaries and limitations of emulations behind, this fan porting is being called "the next frontier on game preservation/emulation", by at least one guy. Personally, I'm looking forward for more PS2 games being ported on pc, especially the ones that for a reason or another have all sorts of issues on PCSX2.
Also, this would make for some great mods, SM64 already has some total conversions.

While for timesplitters 2, it started as an office joke and then they ported the whole game and stuffed inside homefront 2, it was easier than making a custom TS2 with only Chicago and Siberia.

Speaking of Timesplitter, anyone has any news on either TimeSpliter Rewind and TimeSplitter 4?
I don't remember if it was DeepSilver, but someone who was working on TS4 showed a sneekpic of the offices, but then, complete radio silence.
