I think people are over estimating the power and reach of the US federal government. The USA is a very big place and the federal government is very dysfunctional. It not like the Ukraine where everyone is all bunched up in one area. Another big difference is here everyone has a gun. I agree with your understanding of how boomers think. BUT, thankfully time is not on their side.
The children of boomers are 30+ years old now. The children this will impact will be the children of millennials and increasingly the children of zoomers. That boomer mentality your thinking of is what made the draft work for Vietnam. Thats all dead or dying now, thankfully.

And I also disagree about guns being a rightwinger only thing. Its only the old rightwingers who's give a shit about gun laws. Everyone has guns now. "Legal" or not. You have a higher chance of finding a gun on Tyrone in his tinted out Infinity then Joe Boomer in his F150. Jose and his 5 or 6 kids all got hipoints and the millennial with the cringe sleeve tats has some AR's he tacticooled out himself with parts he got off the internet. Getting off topic here but my point I think still stands. US press gangs are not going to be able to roll up with 2 guys and grab a guy off the street with nothing but a club like we see in the videos out of the Ukraine. The chances are greater then not the target is going to be armed and they are going to have to approch everyone with a full on tac team. Going to a house is going to have to be planned out and prepped for like a raid on a drug dealers house. Dealing with that is going to be huge manpower sink and is going to end up getting lots of feds shot once word spreads.

Thinking about this more I think it's really the white Europoors who need to be worried about a draft. The people down in DC can sign all the bills and orders they want. They don't have the manpower to enforce it. But places like the UK are just open air prisons and the white population is completely disarmed. Ukraine style pressgangs would work there.

I have said this in other draft-related threads but I will repeat it here for Posterity’s Sake: I don’t believe any Western nation will have a (combat) draft, for three main reasons

1) It Is Political Mega-Suicide. Forget what you think you know about the permissiveness of Americans, everything changes when you directly threaten someone’s life and safety. The pandemic lockdowns and the vaxx caused massive discontent in the West - almost toppling the government here- despite being ostensibly for our own good. If the vaxx campaign had people going door to door to administer it forcibly AND it was widely understood that taking it dramatically increased your chance of death or injury, there would’ve been blood on the streets. Americans are passive, accepting cucks- until you get right in their face and start something, and then you get Rittenhouse, you get the various BLM shootings, you get the boomer river stabber, the guy that shot his ex wife’s new husband right on camera, etc. Imagine January 6th with guns. The ruling class can, and they’re terrified of it.

2) The Military Doesn’t Want It. Conscripts are bad news. Dubious loyalty, dubious combat effectiveness, prone to defection, corruption by foreign espionage… if you mix them in with established units you tank morale, and if you give them their own units, well… imagine a whole crew of unwilling conscripts being given charge over a multibillion dollar guided missile frigate. The military’s whine is always about willing recruits, because like boomer bosses they haven’t figured out that if you want to attract workers you need to offer more than missing limbs, PTSD and the joy of coming home and seeing the same people you were shooting at walking around your hometown.

3) We Don’t Need It. This is the part that confuses me; ‘we’ are supplying aid-with-benefits to Ukraine and covering for Israel in Gaza, but there is no big war going on that ‘we’ have direct involvement in, where fronts are collapsing due to lack of grunts. No Western nation has a surplus of new military equipment just sitting in warehouses and hangars waiting for people to come along. Every order gets scaled back, everything is over budget and delayed.

“Maybe THEY are planning a war?” With who? Russia is a nuclear power, so is China. Iran is behaving themselves, more or less. Point number one starts to come into play if you talk about a massive fabrication of a casus belli against any of those countries. Who is going to announce this war, too? Trump, under fire from all corners except the people that don’t want more gay wars? Senile old Joe, who might not even live to see his ‘reelection’? Does Hildawg think she can step in and announce that it is She who is leading us into nuclear hellfire and NOT get taken out by someone on her hitlist?
I do not understand why these stories about a draft are being run, barring an extremely slow news cycle. It is a bipartisan hot potato in an election year, that neither side is attributing to the other. It's not the sort of thing that will get anyone out and voting for the Right Candidate, it will get a lot of people angrily asking questions and doubting their support.

Maybe we won't be in a war from some possibilities.
1. There were major protests across cities in the U.S. if the U.S. does get in a conflict with Palestine and Lebanon there might be some Muhammad's trying to enlist. it would be such a radical shift, a 180 on policy that has been established for decades, and i don't see how they could get away with an extremely intrusive and oppressive measure like that when the domestic political environment is as polarized as it is today. they don't have anywhere near enough political capital to push this through.
