This reminds of the used games "community". I saw some spergs on Reeeditt crying that ebay sellers should lower the price of used games for the sake of the "community".

I don't know, maybe stop spending that much on used games and maybe the prices will lower, dumbass.

Fuck me the maimai community pisses me off, there is like no arcade etiquette anymore. All the reddits are filled with drama faggots, i just wanna bash buttons on a washing machine.

The sooner those ADX controllers drop in price and a decent EMU becomes the available the better.

On that faggot crying over a rare import, either save up and get your cab or suck it up and play stepmania like the rest of us poor fags. The fact that people can even buy good DDR pads in this day and age is still mind blowing to me.

wtf does that even mean? How does owning a DDR cabinet "help the community"?

Also what "community"? last I checked the DDR community was miniscule compared to others.
In the "dark times" of DDR (aka the death of arcades and Konami not giving a shit about games at all) - it wasn't uncommon for small communities to crop up around someone that owned and shared a machine in some way. Typically a refurbed 5th-8th mix machine in a garage or installed in a small arcade/college campus. There was a point in time where playing DDR was a "big deal" in many places just because of how bad the scene got. It's not uncommon to find an old DDR Machine Locator and find entries for <So and So>'s house or a note that says "In the break room for the CompSci dept at <Campus>" or something else odd as shit. Think of it like D&D, local fighting games, board games, with the asterisk of that someone has to have a gigantic, noisy, and frankly temperamental arcade machine to play.

Now though? Konami went all in on DDRA and it's super common to find machines in most arcades (most notably nearly all Dave and Busters and all Round1 locations, mostly multiples) so it's not really a big deal if someone buys and refurbs an old DDRX machine so it's just the community embarrassing itself again for no reason. $10,000 isn't even the most you could blow on a cabinet (you can try and import a new A20 machine like some of the 'pro' players have and no one seems to care). The main "issue" is that 3rd party support for DDR basically died - there's no place left that makes high-quality home use pads since CobaltFlux died in the late 00s that are easy to get/have/order/etc.

Not to mention the slew of poor quality Betson-made cabinets that sprung up between '06-'12. Those are built like shit and require a hell of a lot more maintenance than the older cabinets. And speaking of which, are In the Groove 2 dedicated cabinets still worth a fortune? I remember those selling second-hand for as much as a car.

The answer is usually "it depends", but no not really. Most older DDR/ITG cabs can be had for $500 (in very bad shape) to $3/$6000 (in extremely good shape) depending on location.

The overwhelming issue is that most people that can afford a cabinet (aka a business that has an arcade) typically don't care about it once it's "done" and it's not an easy thing to sell (small market, huge issues, not easily transportable, etc) and more often than not just isn't worth the hassle of selling or fixing. So the only place to reliably get them is from arcades that want to sell them, from liquidation sales/auctions (from liquidated arcades) or from arcade refurbishers (who get them from the first two anyway).

You could in theory take a popular cabinet (ITG2, DDR8th, etc) clean it up to near perfection and handle shipping and then charge a severe premium for it (aka over $6,000) - but you might be sitting on it for a few years before it actually sells.

RIP to the singer of one of the most out-of-place songs ever to be in DDR:
Fuck me he died young too, i fucking love The Specials one of the best ska bands from the 70's next to the Bad Manners i was hoping they'd do another tour soon but that's out of the question now.

Yeah, DJ Hero's an excellent game, it's a shame it didn't catch on. Maybe not releasing it at the retardedly expensive price of $120, during a period of serious rhythm game fatigue could have helped.
If Activision went the Rock Band route with continuing to support World Tour with on disc expansions and DLC...

Wait, how did Rock Band 1+2 survive with Harmonix releasing on disc expansions? GH sorta did that with Greatest Hits, Metallica, Aerosmith, III if I remember.

The entire patapon series is fantastic. Highly stylized 2d fantasy "strategy" game where you command an army by beating 4 seperate drums in rhythym (called, Pata, Pon, Don and Chaka) to create commands for your army to follow.

For example "Pata Pata Pata Pon" is order to march, "Pon Pon Pata Pon" is attack order, "Chaka Chaka Pata Pon" is defend, "Pata, Pon, Don, Chaka" is rally and so on and so forth, there's about 10 or so commands total some of which combo with themselves, like "Charge" order (Pon Pon Chaka Chaka) amps up your next attack or defence for full tank or all out attack.

The game requires you to keep constant rhythm and the longer you go without losing a beat the stronger your army gets upgrading their attacks and entering a permenant "fever mode" that changes all their fighting styles as long as you maintain a combo of 10 or longer.

The game also has an incredible soundtrack being a musical game filled with catchy songs.

A thing to note, usually after every command you send with the drums, the army sings it back at you as they attack/defend/retreat/whatever. There versions of songs both with the singing and without. Some people like the singing some don't, I like both.

And the art is also incredibly creative insanely memorable and highly stylized.

What I appreciate about the game is that despite its highly "auteur"-ish style both visual and musical it does not fall back on gameplay. Between the three games there's between 9 and and 21 (28 in pvp mode) classes ranging from giants, to hoseriders, to birdriders, to chariot riders, to bards, cannoneers, crossbowmen, archers, longbowmen, warriors with gigantic robotic arms, spearmen, black mages, white mages and everything inbetween all with their unique flavours and abilities as well as hundreds of build paths, class abilities, traits, upgrades, items and lots of intresting mechanics like sacrificing your perfect combo to summon gods and miracles on the field, crafting, "evolving" your patapons and many more.

And if that wasn't enough the third game also has an insanely in depth multiplayer mode both for PvP and Co-op fully fleshed out with clans, multiplayer mechanics, dungeons and all that fine stuff.

Patapon is one of those rare games that is literally 100% from top to bottom pure soul and it really stuck with people seeing as it got three sequels and even today there's tons of discords both for discussion coop and modding of the game.

It was originally on PSP but you can easily play it on the PPSSPP emulator.

rock band dlc is back-compatible, you could always use it in the latest version in addition to all the new songs + gameplay enhancements.
there was some license-fuckery with a few songs, but most should still be available.

No wonder spergs like Chris or FEFEMZ play while hanging onto the bar. I tried to play this normally and could barely pass it.

this why i just play extreme and ITG, i'm not about the insanity difficulty. Fucking impressive though, and i'll cling to the bar like the fat retard i am if it helps me get through leg flinging sections.
