Not surprised. Not surprised at all. I am wondering why he didn't get it sooner though, given that he was probably fat for the longest time and all.
Some people may develop it just late in life.
That said, he will be severely screwed in case he likes to eat cinnamon buns or anyting with cinnamon. Why? Cinnamon actually reduces blood sugar levels to a certain degree (which some doctors do not know about) and in case of a diabetic person can become dangerous. A friend of mine, who did not know that and has diabetes 2, actually ate just a few cinnamon cookies one day at a christmas party and it lowered his blood sugar levels that much, he fainted. Survived, but still.
