Now for the really funny part, is that both Rand and Robert claim to be very much unique individuals when it comes to their personal philosophies, but it is clear to everybody that they are just taking others thoughts putting them on very selfish and rather dumbed down lenses, be Rand's overblown Adam Smith's ideas, or Robert using both Rand's idea of a superior society man but instead of being selfish with his superior intelect, he needs to be almost Zealot like with the ideas of equality and social justice regardless the economic and societal enviroment related to those issues.

I'm not a "biology hobbyist" like Bob, but this nostril thing sounds suspect. For one, all land animals that I can think of has two nostrils, not just humans. Two, if the two nostrils have different rates of processing information, I would think it's more like one eye sees better, or one foot is larger, because organisms aren't 100% symmetrical. One nostril "taking it's time" to process information doesn't even make sense. If there is any evolutionary reason for two nostrils, it probably that if one somehow gets clogged, you can still breathe and not die.

Without looking it up, I would place money that two nostrils function for a similar purpose as other pairs on a creature - coverage & direction. In the case of humans, you have 2 eyes in order to determine distance of objects. Ears on both sides of your head allow you to determine where the direction a sound originated from. Nostrils would probably have a similar function to help you figure out the direction of a smell. (or maybe, one of your ancestors had it for that reason and you never bothered to give it up)

No, you are right, most of Rand's philosophy comes as a repudiation of everything communism or socialism represents, and that is because her family lost everything during the revolution.

I'm no Ayn Rands scholar, I've only read two of her books and read some interviews, but this aspect was always very obvious, as she was pretty cut and dry about her hatred of communism.

The two nostrils do have different rates of airflow. Like the penis, the tissue inside of the nasal passages becomes engorged with blood, reducing the rate of airflow in the nostril. Your body alternates which nostril is engorged every few hours. Because different chemicals bond to receptors in the nose at different rates, the slower airflow allows chemicals which require a longer time to bond to receptors the time they actually need.

However, since the human sense of smell plateaus at age 8 and may even start to deteriorate from as early as 15-20, the benefits of the nasal cycle probably aren't the reason why the vast majority of humans have two nostrils. Especially since you could get the same effects by shortening the duration of a cycle in a single nostril. The real reason most likely has to do with the nose's other function: breathing. Since people who have a perforated septum or facial clefts which affect the nose typically have breathing problems hypothesized to result from turbulent airflow in the nose, it's likely that humans or our ancestors who had a large single nostril also had breathing problems resulting from turbulent airflow and were less likely to survive long enough to pass on their genes.

The nostrils are not sense organs; the olfactory epithelium is. There are a lot of neuronal endings in the olfactory epithelium, and for a certain olfactory molecule, some neurons may be sensitive to lower concentrations of that molecule than other neurons, so they detect it earlier and fire sooner to alert the animal. But there is no evidence at all that more-sensitive neurons are concentrated on one side of the olfactory epithelium. Also keep in mind that the two nostrils are not entirely separate: they share a common back passage (the choana) along which air can pass.

I read about a fifth of Atlas Shrugged as a college freshman and even then I could not go much further because she’s kind of a shitty writer and her prose is laborious to work through. Still, unless it takes a wild swerve into ethnic supremacy later in the book, the classification of Rand with supremacist ideologies is puzzling. Her target seems to be very specifically those who go into politics because they failed at business. The main character’s brother seems like a barely exaggerated version of someone who calls for the regulation of railroads because they lost business to Vanderbilt. The mediocre sons of great men syndrome.
There may also have been an attempt to draw a parallel between the robber baron mythos American socialists of the 1920’s were building and the communist propaganda war on the Kulaks before there was any shooting. IDK “fuck commies and diet commies” isn’t far right so much as it is not far left.
