And the reverse statement is the whole point of the genre.
Superior future came first. Dystopia was invented in response to it.
I can't remember where I heard this; it may have been one of the posters in this thread so if I'm quoting you without attribution I apologize.

"Every future is dystopian."

I think this is true. I don't think 10 or 20 years ago anyone was thinking,
"In the future I hope technology allows us to work from home AND THE GOVERNMENT FORCES US TO DO IT."
"It would be cool if we could use the Internet like a big party and communicate with all our friends and family at once AND IF YOU SAY SOMETHING UNPOPULAR EVERYONE ON THE PLANET CAN TRY TO DESTROY YOUR LIFE."

I feel like given the current trajectory of society, it would take a real moron to look around and think, "This all isn't progressing fast enough. LET'S DO MORE OF THIS AND FASTER!!!"

And yet Bob seems to do precisely that.

I'm not really a movie guy and don't care much about superhero stuff one way or the other, but I SOMEWHAT agree with Bob on this one. Well, more like I disagree with Scorsese. There's a strong tendency for the Hollywood "elite" and their ballwashers to think that only fart huffing angstfests count as "real" movies. Why should that be?
That’s one of my biggest gripes with the superhero genre. The whole, ‘angsty’, ‘edgelord’ bullshit. I mean I like drama and mystery and wholesomeness but if I wanted to watch an angst fest, I would’ve put on twilight.

Why does every fantasy/sci-fi story has to have deep meaning. I mean, Anti-heroes, anti-villains, Magic, supernatural, etc. Those are nice and all but it’s kinda overrated. And most people just want to watch a show with action or relax with something funny.

‘for every action, there is a opposite reaction’-Newton's Third Law of Motion

It’s a law of nature and science.

I wish people like Bob would understood that.

Because with spergs like Bob, it's NOT about "relaxing", primarily. It's about proselytizing, in a way, the things that Bob thinks the viewers should learn. Bob doesn't relax, he is given over to almost orgasmic euphoria when the strawman effigies in a movie that are a representation of all things he loathes and detests get their comeuppance in the end.

The angsty shit is to convince others to wallow in angst themselves, which could be argued is a gateway to what's been called "Liberal [white] Guilt".

Normies who do not convert to Wokeism shouldn't relax, they should be constantly looking over their shoulder, lest the Soopeeryah Fyootcha come for them, turning them from mayonnaise ghoul to mayonnaise corpse. Not that Bob would be (actually capable of) inflicting this on them himself, but he won't object/complain if Natural Selection(tm) takes its course.

That makes a lot sense.

Although, if natural selection took its course, he be one of the first people to go.

I can't help but feel like if you actually applied Bob's worldviews to a real government it would turn into a Hodge-podge of all the most grim, bleak dystopian settings ever. The military would be Starship Troopers, constantly going all around the universe to "fix" everything with violence, the police forces would be the Gestapo hunting down wrongthinkers and poor people, rich people would be the fat humans from Wall-E, poor people used for slave labor or turned into soylent green, and all media would either be pacifying brainrot or blatant propaganda, making the home society a blend of 1984 and Brave New World.
No.

If you applied Kino Roberto's worldviews to a real government there'd be a revolution within hours.

All You Need Is Kill is basically that, but I think the are Isekai light novels that have that as a gimmick as well (albeit those suck).
Yeah, the Isekai is "Re:Zero" it's the one I was talking about with @EnemyStand
At some level this is about definitions.

I think "cinema" is a medium. Star Wars, Taxi Driver, 2001, and Plan Nine from Outer Space are all cinema. Therefore, I disagree with Scorsese.

However, that's not his point. He's talking about the quality of movies, and while I agree with his points, I also think it's subjective. Splitting them into four categories is interesting, but it's also ambiguous. At some point, it will degenerate into "I like it, so it's Cinema," making the exercise dubious.
Technically on a level, all of language is about definitions. Therefore every exercise is dubious.

And we live in a society. *eye roll*

It's not about why people like. I can like KitKats all I want, but that doesn't suddenly transform it into a healthy meal, or a rare one.

It doesn't have to. In an ideal world, there would be space for both to exist.

Kind of like how the Xmen franchise has both Deadpool AND Logan in it.
Let's just admit that Movieblob would be is an incredibly shit leader person.
Fixed

True.

Let's just admit that Movieblob would be an incredibly shit leader.
Since this Film Robert who have to be the opposite of our own because he would need to be charismatic enough to lead a revolution while ours could never. Also since our own Bobert claims to love Star Trek, I hope Mirror Blobby dies like Mirror Archer did on Enterprise right after gaining power he was poisoned by his Asian Girlfriend who makes out with her Black Lover as he lays there watching while taking his last breathes.

I can never get past the first episode of that series. I just hate the main character so much.

It's not that I expect her to be an instant badass, they just took it to the far opposite extreme where she is SO anti-self preservation I wanted her wish to be granted and to die.
Yeah. The issue is that the main character is written to be a wilting doormat even for a Japanese person. So that makes her a suicidal black hole of personality to an American viewer. Which is a shame because the payoff is worth it if you hate Mary Sues and like strong female characters who have to bust their asses to succeed.

As for Oscar movies, I don't think there are any subjects or genres that are off limits. Even eye-candy spectacle movies can be Oscar-worthy. (Although I might have been hesitant to nominate Star Wars for a Best Picture, The Empire Strikes Back had enough going on thematically to qualify for one.) The problem with Bob is that he thinks Modern Marvel Capeshit is on par with classic myths and legends - when most of it is sparkly, timewasting spectacle crap. Said crap can't even win Best Awards for Visual Effects. Take a gander at the list of Oscar Winners for FX in the past few years. You'll see a lot of dramatic cinematic reenactments of real life events, films based on classic literature and serious Science Fiction, but you won't see any Marvel Comic CG battles taking the prize. The last Marvel Comic Book that won was SpiderMan 2 back in 2004, and it barely edged out Harry Potter and I, Robot.

True.

Let's just admit that Movieblob would be an incredibly shit leader.
Which is good, because if he had the competence and power to make what he wants happens, he'd make the whole planet a living hell for everyone but himself.

But he'd never actually be a leader. He wants to be like the short, fat sidekick a villain has in a Disney movie. Sucking up to the actual bad guy, never doing anything important and running away when things go bad.

Someone broke the code of Bobby's sociopathic mind. Bobby responds with non-sequitur:

The Dems have introduces yet another clownishly bizarre bill. Bobby wants it to be more clownish, because politics is supposed to be "fun" like video games. Even his Angel is nonplussed by his misanthropic outburst:

I might as well archive his ""swing voters" are barely sentient enough to be classified above fungus" post.

Rush Limburgh.

Bobby is right that being himself is punishment enough.

I can't think of anything more "anti-interrogative" than "transwomen are women".

We should totally judge a Republican woman by her looks, but we should never do so to a pair of whorish fake tits.

Again, as I've said, if her English were at all good she would have been sent to the US as a spy.

It's weird to see him, and so many other weird neoliberals, pretend the Great Reset is a conspiracy theory. If Time Magazine ran an article about it and proudly declared that the elites want to take your privacy and your property (and you should be happy for it!), I think it's a little more plausible than they're suggesting.
