Size is a big one, but I think thats just a side effect of that whole power thing I mentioned. It was exactly as big Germany could make it. As for mitigating intent. I think America is more unique in how it can wind up blameless. Not even in like a Jingoist way. Like I realized the more you try to define genocide, the less it applies to what we did to the Native Americans. Fascinating stuff really.

Been reading The Technological Society, he writes a lot about how the decline religion and tradition is related to the industrial revolution and consumerism. I especially thought this one was enlightening.

If a whole people is oriented toward the search for justice or purity, if it obeys in depth the primacy of the spiritual, it does not suffer from the lack of material things, just as we today do not feel the inverse need of the spiritual.
