As a confessed Tolkien dork, and as someone who's been watching Amazon's trainwreck with pained laughter, I do have to say Bob impressed me: this is, without exaggeration, absolutely the most mind-bogglingly retarded take on the show I've seen yet. "Antediluvian" storytelling would not see the Arthurian figure of Gil-galad reduced to a vapid politico who doesn't even write his own speeches and who treats the eternal paradise of Valinor the way the London Metro Police treated the Village of Sandford in Hot Fuzz. Go back to the thesaurus, you fat dickhead.

Also, in regards to Bob's sperging about RoP, I don't trust Amazon's numbers, because numbers in streaming are the easiest shit to skew, but even if all 7 billion people on this rocket hurtling through the cosmos watched it, I still wouldn't give a fuck because holy shit, this show is laughably bad.

Bob referring to the show looking more Catholic and then citing it as "the franchises Gnostic text" is contradictory seeing as Gnosticism is a collection of heresies that have popped up over the centuries and are in opposition to Catholicism. Not to mention, as a Catholic, none of this shit is particularly Catholic. I know they're trying to channel some hybrid of Tolkein and the Bible when they have their ultra fauxlosophic monologues. but its not enough to be even surface level.

You only have one chance to make a first impression, and from the looks of it, looks like Galadriel is a cunt that disregards her companions lives for her pursuit (and I heard she was even willing to leave on behind, I'm not gonna see this shit, but it sounded bad), I don't know how Robert wants people to take this character.

"Oh, but that is the character arc, she will see the errors of her ways, and that will..." blah blah blah, again, you only have once chance to make an impression, that is why even if you gonna introduce a character that has to go through a redemption of sorts, you need to at least have some sympathetic light to cast on the character, or at the very least on you main character, if all she is to be a stuck up bitch that knows better than everybody, then that is how people are going to see her, cry confirmation bias all you want, but the writers wrote her that way because they wanted to show Galadriel-right, The other elves-wrong and just thought everybody would agree. Same shit happened with Rey on Star Wars, they just assumed everybody would love her because she is so awesome, doesn't work like that.

Also, and a important bit here, if you gonna make you character a asshole, and you want people to side with said asshole, then it needs to have charisma, charm, lots of it. Captain Marvel acts like a block of wood, and no, it wasn't because she was under the control of the Kree.

Doubt the Angelina Jolie Tomb Raider flicks are going to be anyone's favorite, but Jolie did a good job as Lara, she was super competent and good at everything. Yes, Lara could come across as somewhat condescending, but Jolie played the character with her usual charm and charisma that got her type casted into these types of roles, but she pulled it off effortless and we did like Lara on those movies.

It can be done, it just takes, you know, charm talent, shita that you can't brute force with tweets.

I think a problem with Galadriel in the show isn't the actress or how she portrays the character, more so that the character's at a very rough and abrasive point in her arc. I would assume (giving too much credit to Amazon here) that she eventually returns to Lothlorien and finds a husband.

So you think the show will improve once she gets laid? I'll keep that in mind and tune in accordingly.

I don't think these writers are very good, but there's definitely a way to introduce douche bag characters without making everyone dread them being on screen. Like making them comical, or very competent, or showing that they're not all bad. For example in House of the Dragon, Matt Smith's character is a prick, but one of the things the show does is make him cunning, and despite how much of an ass he can be, you can see that the man truly loves his family, even when they're at cross interests. Galadriel was just boring in her abrasiveness.

You can also really see the Beowulf influence in the show, with the protagonist swimming an unreasonable distance in the ocean for an ungodly amount of time.
