This remains among the absolute dumbest things he's ever said, so unfathomably stupid I find myself doubting he really did, no matter how absurd he is, no matter how consoomer-broken his diabetic brain. And yet, there it is, in black and white, almost four years later.

Oh my god this is an actual thing that retard said. Even children wouldn't say something this stupid.

Going back in the thread a bit because I just had to address this.
Disney fanboyism:

LOL, what the fuck? Did Brainless Bobby completely forget that Thor 4, Lightyear, and Jurassic World: Dominion got released after Maverick? Did Bob himself forget that he predicted these were going to be the super hits of the summer, but Tom Cruise's movie ultimately left them all in the dust?

Is he really delusional enough to think that Black Panther 2 and Avatar 2 - one film that no longer has its main lead, and another that's a sequel to something that hasn't been big in a decade - are really going to break box office records in the fall, the time period that's typically not the time period for blockbusters?

I know that the answers to all of these questions are "yes."

Sure, that's why I went for the live link ... to show that all these years later, he's still a giant knucklehead, and probably thinks this was a brilliant theory.
I remember him comparing comic book heroes to a contemporary version of Greek mythology. Which isn't necessarily untrue but it really cheapens those ancient stories that are still being told thousands of years later.

It reeks of a desperate attempt for him to somehow gain legitimacy for liking superhero stories aimed at children by elevating them to an art form that they have no business being compared to. It's pathetic.

There's actually a lot to that idea. I remember more than one lit professor pointing out that kryptonite is basically the same thing as Achilles's vulnerable heel. Of course, kryptonite was invented for the radio program to give Superman's voice actor an excuse to take a vacation, so it could just be that all stories humans tell draw from the same inspirations and ideas. Something crucial that sets them apart is that comic book heroes are not objects of literal worship, Disney dicksucks notwithstanding. Given Bob's fedora-tipping thoughts on religion, I can understand why he'd make such an argument anyway.

Where he goes off the rails is with crap like the Sistine Chapel or claiming Shakespeare's history plays are an example of a "shared universe." Because he doesn't understand history or literature any better than he does a healthy diet.

Technically wouldn't Bob's analogy be more batshit than that? It's not even the originals which would be absurd enough to put characters in books marketed towards children on the level of religion, it's specifically the live action Disney adaptations of them. It's closer to if Bob argued a guy who did a movie based on a play based on a book is "literally bigger than God"

He conflates them but that's usually his angle, isn't it?

How was this never archived and how have I never seen this until today? I know his "Spiderman movies are like depictions of The Crucifixion", "The MCU is the modern day Globe Theater", and "The Council of Nicaea were fanfic writers" but this...this is something other than else.
Because I like to tell stories, let's have the buildup,

Notice how he somehow forgets that when rich people commissioned art in the 12th-15th century that said art was never meant to be disposable nor was it usually for public consumption. Notice notice that he doesn't name a single piece of work that he alleges is fascinating? Notice noticed notice how in comparing Avengers to the Sistine Chapel it inherently means that there's "A LOT of fascinating work" that people will never see because they're too busy consooming the big product like obsolete belivers?
The replies, some of have already been posted by @make_it_so, to his "totally a joke why don't you fucking invertebrates understand humor?!" hot take

Would it surprise you that So Tired is a she/her, possibly troon, that does kinda crappy to OK art

Would you be shocked to learn that The Respected Madman is a he/him, possibly gay, that likes the Detroit Lions and is a retard?

This is what his bio was 4 years ago when someone archived it lol.

LMAO I didn't even have to search for this. This is directly under his pinned tweet.

He's incredibly insecure in his tastes and need to be the smartest guy in the room. It's hilarious to read his Twitter because of his need to twist logic until he's right.

The funniest thing is he has so little faith in humanity he thinks this shit is believable

Bob is a cow that utterly fascinates me in regards to his mindless consumerism and his defense of Disney/Marvel. I am going to nerd out here so feel free to rate me autistic but most fans of the good old school Marvel comics hate the MCU and Kevin Feige. There were so many great storylines that Disney/Marvel purposely didn't adapt (Like the Walt Simonson Thor run) because they really, really fucking wanted to get to and adapt the modern day drek that is Marvel comics now like Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, Ironheart, Whor, X-Men (sorry, Mutants) and A Team. Don't even get me started on the retcons and shit. Like them interfering with Sam Rami and what he wanted to do for Doctor Strange. Originally the new Doctor Strange movie was going to be more horror ordinated and have the villain Nightmare as the main antagonist. As someone who loves the Doctor Strange comics that sounds fucking awesome! But, no. Feige and Victoria Alonso (the true "mastermind" behind modern Marvel) wanted the movie to be about Wanda and how it is mothers who suffer the most in the world and with a side of America Chavez and her lesbian moms for diversity. Who wants to see Evil Dead but with Doctor Strange in a psychedelic nightmare realm? Not Bob! We need more women and lesbians he will say.

Than there is of course Whor who I despise with the passion of a thousand suns. Any real Thor fan will tell you that the Jane Foster run on Thor was the worst Thor run ever. The writing is fucking awful and the character is wholly unlikable. However, the reason you are seeing all these legacy characters get replaced after Disney bought Marvel is because Disney is notorious for not paying the estates of these creators. Disney instead will replace the character with a diversity lead as a means of weaseling their way out of paying the estates of their rights to use these legacy characters. Lee and Ditko estates only have the rights to Peter Parker but not Spider-Man? Just change Spider-Man into a Afro-Latino boy and problem solved. It is sleazy and disgusting but stupid dipshits like Bob consume this without a second thought.

I can tell Bob never read a comic before 2012 in his life. The fact that he attacks Nerdrotic (a man who owned a comic shop and has probably read every single comic that was ever released) over being upset at Disney/Marvel retconning and ruining these characters shows what a poser Bob is. If Feige released a movie where it was just a man taking a dump Bob will call this genius. I can't understand how a man can attach and base is whole personality around a brand. Go outside for a change Bob.

Bob probably also doesn't see much difference between a nice steak dinner and a reasonable quantity of McDonald's. Actually, he probably likes the McDonald's more than the steak dinner.

Of course, Bob's comments about the Sistine Chapel bring me back to that story that he was in some weird Internet cult that believed that you could use your mind to make fiction into reality. So his opinion "Marvel nowadays is the equivalent of Jesus in the past" is probably him attempting to will it into reality. Since he has no eye for art and his taste in media is extremely childish he doesn't understand he's comparing some childish ephemera to a timeless masterwork. I'm sure he thinks End Game is actually better than the Sistine Chapel.

It is also funny how Bob despises Christians and calls them "smooth brains" when Stan Lee talked about how the Bible and the morality of the New Testament was some of his biggest inspirations when writing comics. Eat shit Lard Ass.
"All-powerful? There is only one who deserves that name. And his only weapon — is love!" - Utau the Watcher

Bob's mentioned it before but he apparently gets a lot of his comics info from Linkara of all fucking people. That and he obviously is just googling most of it.
I don't even care that he doesn't read comics, most people don't, but his pretending to be some savant is fucking embarrassing.

And that's something, considering Stan Lee was Jewish. If even One of Trump's Chosen People knows the value of the entire Bible, including the New Testament, as a source for morality in stories, you know what kind of an idiot Bob is.

I'm sorry, but if this Respected Madman person thinks Infinity War will be known 500 years from now he is a fool. There's no way with the way information overload is going that the MCU will be a blip on people's radars in 5 centuries. Truly great art is timeless, the techniques and craftmanship used are studied until something better comes along. That does not describe any entry in the MCU.

I enjoy reading Bob because he's a metric for where all of the intersecting points of the arrogant egotistical audiences meet.
From his perspective, he is
  1. Filmmaker.(Who has never made anything noteworthy, or good)
  2. Critic (Who does not have the respect of his peers or the people he's talking about.)
  3. Historian (of things that people do not care about unless they are rebooted for cash)
  4. A True Nerd (that is fine with things changing to meet his current political and ideological stances, and does not have any kind of advanced technical acumen, or relevant degree like most nerds do.)
So for him, when he's "right" about what is happening in film or politics, it vindicates and validates him. When he guesses that a studio will make something that is both woke and repetative. When he imagines something that would have been universally panned 20-40 years ago, and it seems to happen he gets validation. He gets to say "i was right" and acts like the eternals is great, while we pan it, and the mainstream audience forgets about it.

The comparison to the Sistine Chapel is really emblematic of who he is as a person.

Because he doesn't believe in religion, he can't see that a random person picked out of a group who watches the MCU won't consider Iron-Man to be a vision or representation of God, like Jesus. Perhaps one could make a thematic comparison to Iron-Man being the Christ figure of the Marvel universe. The sacrifice that saved everyone.

But, because Bob is block headed about the entire thing hes doing, he makes a blatant 1:1 comparison between movies about comic book characters, and a religion people believe in with the fear and wonder of god, and all of his creation.
He tips his fedora at the concept of Christianity just being fictional canon, just like Marvel movies.
Then, he compares the craftsmanship of one of the greatest artist and "thinkers" of all time to the labor of a select group of modern day hollywood filmmakers. He directly implies that the church leaders are like a corporation and the "Kevin Feige" of the era commissioned the Sistine chapel as the penultimate expression of "The Christian Extended Universe".

Bob is euphoric because he feels like he's living in a golden age, directly comparing the past to where we are now. And/or inversely, the same things that were bad then are the same things that are bad now.

His perspective is "correct" as an axiom that exists in all directions.
And what's incredible about all of this, is that the average person who wonders about history, the present, and the future will find his statements to be insulting.

Any person who looks at something that summons the spiritual and compares it to Marvel Movies has none. Its just spite. That's all Bob really is. Its why he acts like its 1990, Marvel is Nintendo, and DC is Sega.

Bob honestly reminds me of Brian from Family Guy,

“I think you just got to be in the "out" group. Whoever's on top, whoever's in power, whoever's successful, you gotta be on the other side or you don't feel like the smartest guy in the room. All you are, my dear, is a contrarian.”

I don't even think Bob belives this one. Maybe pre 2016 but the guy is far more miserable and bitter now then say 2009 or 2012 when he was on Tumblr as a Proto SJW. Talking about how the 90s sucked and the 2000s were amazing and the 2010s will surpass even that
