Nah, judicious editing does solve narrative problems: by pruning unnecessary distractions and keep the audience focusing on the main story. If the story is so complicated that it cannot be told in a reasonable duration of a film, then it might be time to recast the story.

I write on occasion. I'm doing a thing for National Novel Writing Month right now. You guys have no idea how much content gets chucked the fuck out when I go in to edit. I have re-written and cut out entire chapters of content because it wasn't working-it was clunky, it didn't fit with the rest of the story, you see where this is going. Simplify, simplify.
