I just watched it because I hate myself on some level, he doesnt like it. Largely because he's really invested in not liking it, fortunatly for him it isnt very good. The biggest issue with the revew is that it's a slightly inferior version of the avengers which is a pretty bland forgettable movie which he loves so it's largely self-serving. Everything he complains about could be wheeled out against the avengers.
His biggest problem overall with the DC universe isnt that he hates these movies, because they fucking suck , it's that he's really overinvested in how much he hates them as though they're a meaningful product which had an obligation of quality. The easyest way I can compare it is if someone constantly raged about the quality of each individual Mcdonalds hamburger they ate-not the corporation the burger itsef. They're bad, everyone knows they're bad and the burger you're currently eating will not be any differant even if you enjoy it, why are you so fucking angry at the burger you know was going to be shit was shit? It's absurd especially when taken into account it's like if that same persons believed Burger king where really good cooks because the burger tastes less shitty.

Come to think about it that's pretty much bob in general in pretty much every topic he's really invested in something or another-Hillary/90's 2d platformers/Marvel universe/city middle class sand rages against some other opposite number. Failing to realize how shitty his own team is and how asinine his investment is.

For someone whose apparantly post national he's really fucking tribalistic.

Is Bob supporting loot boxes now? I thought he said gamers were going to because they must be contrarian to whatever "Authority" says. How the fuck do you say that and then it's you who 180's?
So it's not just me then? I cruise the site a little tipsy from time to time and thought I must have imagined it. Because this is a pretty blatant and ridiculous 180. And a day or so later no less. I guess he's going to have to do that 180 again when he realises most people, republican or democrat, support net neutrality conceptually, or would if they knew anything about it.

I bet all you have to do is say something about "putting the internet back into the hands of the Superior Elite" and he'd have an erection over getting rid of net neutrality.

One of the most aggravating things about Bob is that, when it comes to his bugaboos like conservatives or dudebros or Sega, he has to always be right. It's what leads him to make such contradictory and dishonest arguments, like saying the difference between Jack Thompson's and Anita Sarkeesian's tactics is that Thompson was a right-winger and Anita isn't. (?!?)

Someone with more of an interest in politics might disagree with me but that's one of the reasons I hate political parties and the terms left/right-winger. I mostly see them used to dismiss ideas and get people acting like autistic fanboys of some brand. You can't have an honest discussion with someone who's going on about how bigotry is exclusive to one "side" that they can barely describe as a thing in the first place.

Besides you have people like Bob who somehow managed to become a Randroid progressive liberal, however the fuck that works. Not to mention people who go on about the "inherently political" nature of everything and how what color cartoon characters are is somehow equal to discussion about a nation's policy about immigration. Does any of this make sense to anyone more invested in politics?

It does, which is :powerlevel:a trap I am constantly reminding myself I shouldn't fall into.:powerlevel: Tribalism is seductive, even when you think you're too smart or too dispassionate for it. If you're committed to one side or one ideal, you need to make an effort to read the other side's arguments and to understand their point of view, and if you're not dealing with a complete shithead, try to proceed from the idea you are dealing with an honest disagreement. Certainly if you want to understand politics you need to be able to take a step back and look at what is working and what isn't, and try to place things in a historical scope -- because really, who's going to care about any of this in a hundred years? Had an argument with anyone lately about how awful Buchanan was? Of course not. At the same time, you have to realize that the stuff you're so passionate about right now has yet for its correctness or wrongness to be determined. As Chou en Lai (semi-apocryphally) said when asked about the effects of the French Revolution, "It's too soon to tell."

Bob is incapable of doing any of this. He's too personally invested; his ego is all wrapped up with being right all the time and being progressive and forward thinking. As for how he became a progressive Randroid, fucked if I know. I suppose because he's a rabid totalitarian who has to always be right, but also wants to be accepted by the leftoid crowd because that's supposedly where all the Smart, Moral people are. But the answer could just be :autism::autism::autism:

Zhou Enlai was talking about the French protests of 1968, not the French Revolution.

Only if he thought the social clique he constantly fellates was of the same opinion.

Fatso doesn't actually have any opinions of his own. He just borrows them from whatever social group he's worshipping at the moment.

It's Hollywood. He's always worshipping Hollywood and in favor of whatever policy can be expressed in a simplistic 90 min story.

I can't remember if anyone posted it earlier, but this turned up in my recommended videos.

Anyone gonna brave it? I made it 15 seconds before I got sick of his voice.
I have no idea what he was going on about. The movie was how a superhero movie should be: a thrill ride that keeps your attention throughout the film with action scenes and cheesy one-liners. Why does Bob think superhero movies mean anything more than that?

As a rule of thumb I've usually found that the more you ramble about how much you hate the other team's guy rather than discussing the merits and practical ramifications of stuff the more likely you've completly lost it. I learnt a lot from spending time on a Conservative board a few years back the two things which struck me where how they where all bitching about how much they hated Hillary and Gore, something which was largely asinine considering it was 2002-07 and how little they where actually willing to discuss Bush for doing the exact same things the Democracts would have done with slightly variations.

I think the ironic thing is when a superhero movie does try to be more than just a superhero movie, like The Dark Knight or Logan, he dismisses it (though in TDK's case it's more him hating the perceived dudebro fanbase because he must always be against them).

It'll never not be funny to me that Bob views disposable popcorn superhero flicks as cornerstones of pop culture. Guardians of the Galaxy is an enjoyable, charming movie, but I wouldn't call it the most important sci-fi movie of the 2010s like Bob proclaims, mostly because at the end of the day it's not anything more than a fun movie.

People wouldn't care about Guardians as much if it wasn't part of the MCU. That's not to dismiss the IP or it's potential, just Bob needs to tone it down. You'd look like an idiot if a Millie the Model movie was made and went on about it being a great achievement for romance in film or saying the same for a Werewolf by Night movie by saying it's changing horror films forever by technically existing in a world with the Avengers who never show up.

Because comparing Southerners to Nazis totally gives you a water-tight argument.

P.S. Buchanan. Buchanan's the worst president. Is your brain made up of lard?

BONUS: I thought it was more due to Kluwe being an autismo who sucked at football and lied about pedophilia, but your interpretation works too.

A case can be made for Johnson as the worst, but Bob doesn't make that case. Of course. Johnson's failure (of which there were many) largely stemmed from his refusal to offer real rights to blacks in the postwar South. So is Bob advocating for blacks not to be allowed to vote? Probably not, but it's fair an assessment of him as his assessments of others tend to be.

Oh, and if he doesn't think the South was punished enough, maybe someone should point out to him that one of the reasons there are so many Jim Crow era Confederate monuments is because they happened to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the end of the war, which was how long it took many, many Southern communities to scrape up the cash necessary to honor their veterans before they died of fucking old age.

JFC his ignorance plus his smugness makes him more punchable by the second.

"Why can't I not have something in common with a dang, dirty Conservative?"

Speaking of ignorance, he seems blissfully unaware that Kristol has been NeverTrump since the primaries, and is emblematic of the larger split in the Republican party. There are actually many things he'd agree with Kristol on, but he responds to reading the other side's views about how he responds to exercise or leafy green vegetables.

Wow, teenage you totally wasn't a joyless fuck who hated fun.

The notion that Bob was an insufferable know-it-all asshole as a teenager who hated his contemporaries is even less surprising than the diabetes diagnosis.

His hatred of "dudebros" invading his gaming culture is hilarious because I'm only 2 years younger than Bob so I remember the late 80's through the 90's when Nintendo was huge. Back then every kid was into video games, of course the dorkier ones were into it more....but even the popular and athletic kids were into Mario, Zelda, and Metroid. "Dudebros" didn't magically get into video games when FPS's got big.
