Worst of all, the MCU and new Star Wars movie don't have creative risks from directors that would make them original and stand out from the rest. Kathleen Kennedy and Kevin Feige basically the directors for their respective franchises. I wished Black Panther would have had more vision from Ryan Coogler rather than having Kevin Feige telling him and other filmmakers what do to.Here's the thing though, these blockbusters aren't actually making anything new. Black Panther is built on the MCU which itself was made from long running comic series. The Last Jedi is leeching off the original Star Wars trilogy. Fembusters cannibalized the orginal Ghostbusters. Etc, etc.
These films are not culturally significant because they have no identity of their own. They can only live in the shadows of their predecessors. In forty years nobody will talk about TLJ like they are talking about A New Hope today.
