Yes and no. In general, I'd say it's a lot like Game of Thrones S8E3, where it was the jump the shark moment for a whole bunch of people and became (in)famous as the fracture point despite the fact that the cracks had clearly been forming for a while. People didn't like the plot, or the structure, or the treatment of many of the characters (Luke and to a lesser extent Finn) and that part isn't really political.

On the other hand, the "older female space captain" in question is Vice Admiral Holdo, who's absolutely terrible despite being played by Laura Dern. She has purple hair and spends the entire movie in an ugly cocktail dress instead of anything resembling a uniform, and acts like a cunt when her subordinates try to find out what the plan is. And the movie is 100% behind her on this. That part is political.

The moral of the Holdo plot (it's not even a subplot, it's the central conflict of a huge part of the movie) is literally, "Never, under any circumstances, question your superiors, no matter how wrong their actions look and no matter if people are being slaughtered left and right as a result... if your superiors are women." It's some next level vagina cultism.

Poe is another character who people don't like the treatment of, but that's directly tied to the Holdo plot.

This is why Bob using complicated words makes him shallow and stupid.

Unpopular opinion in 1...2...3 as a Marvel fan I don't understand why every comic book geek act as if Marvel Studios was some type of comic book adaptation savior. I don't care for the editing in Hulk 2003 but there is honestly more of a story in there then in Hulk 2003 and not even Bob thinks that Marvel Studios Spider-man is better then Sam Raimis Spider-man. But I guess that in some sense the Marvel Studios series of films are more true to the comic book stories then previous films but then I am the type of weirdo Batman fan that prefers 1989 to the Nolan ones.

Marvel is just the largest and most prominent example of this problem and Bob is sadly far from alone in this. People who have no strong principles, moral values, spiritual beliefs, or connection to their heritage tying their whole identity to their status as consumers of brand name products. It's also why Last Jedi stans are so obsessed. Star Wars or Marvel isn't just a fictional series of stories to them, it's their tribe, their family. Yeah, something I liked about Rebels!Thrawn was that his use of art wasn't a be-all game winner but merely a part of a larger whole.
