No Robert, you utter imbecile. At least two separate waves of progressivism in America were populist reactions to the industrial revolution and the Great Depression respectively. Populism is neither right nor left. It's a bunch of regular people looking around at the effects of the political status quo on their lives, saying, "We're sick of this shit, we want a change" and then getting together and pushing for that change despite it being against the wishes of the dominant opinion makers and power brokers. In many ways, populism is a natural course correction. Sometimes it's an over correction, but it's still a reaction to very real societal problems that the elites either refuse to address or double down on because they aren't the ones suffering the negative consequences.
