I

I don't think Bob has even seen DBZA, the only think he's seen is the wiki page.
Entirely possible, but he did make a comment that he thought one of the main themes of DBZ was "daddy issues" regarding vegeta, trunks and goku, gohan. Goku being an awful dad was an ongoing joke in abridged, but wasnt really a huge thing in the original series. So that's why kiwis assumed he probably had seen abridged at some point.

That being said I don't feel like trying to dig up the specific post to try and analyze it more. It's safe to say that Boberts opinions on any anime are ill informed and useless.

Oh shit! They're right on my doorstep. Time to seal the border!
They are. There is a literal Cali diaspora shitting up idaho, Montana and the like.
Better get that shit under control. My home state and others in the South are getting swarmed by New England refugees in a similar manner.
Also, note the provocative metaphor of a man traveling inside his mother, simultaneously returning to the womb and indulging his darkest, most hidden subconscious urges. Such arresting Oedipal themes would not appear on tv again until The Sopranos.
Good God, Mola, you're making me imagine Bob trying to dissect The Sopranos. He'd make Little Carmine Lupertazzi look like Plato.

Oh holy fuck this makes me actually MATI. The Franchise hasnt been an action comedy since like 1987. The first death of Krillin really kind of nails in that Dragon Ball is a soap opera for little boys. And I have no goddamn idea what that Japanese Cultural Idiosyncracies fucking means. Like even the actual definition. Its gibberish. But even in terms of Dragon Ball it makes no sense.

Unless if he means that Goku is a weirdo. Thats also not the focus of the series. Never really had been even. Holy shit guys. Bob just cannot let go. Mario is from Brooklyn and Dragon Ball hasnt moved on since the Tenkaichi.
"Dragon Ball or some other anime movie" is about as open-ended as it gets. Watch, it turns out that Snyder signed on to do a Durarara!! Movie without knowing what the hell it was actually about.

Gonna suck regardless, though.

Today's Bobby's Angels we have a very special cameo: Jake Alley!

"Turns out that when a whole generation of parents completely abdicate their basic moral duties..."

Like your parents did to you Jake? Your father abandoned you almost immediately into your life and your mother did nothing but spoil you afterwards. I know you pretend you haven't been successfully doxxed, but we all know who you are and are aware of a lot of elements regarding your life. Your projection is outstanding.

Also I find the Minecraft jab funny given Alley's history on the subject. I might be misremembering, but Alley was never really anti-Minecraft up until the last couple of years. And the only reason he changed wasn't because of the YouTube community. It was because of Notch fucking with the fanbase on Twitter.

I doubt Bob could get through it. He'd go in expecting an ultraviolent mob satire and wind up bored out of his tits. On the other hand, it'd be hilarious to see him try to take it on, because there are so many erudite Sopranos superfans out there that the moment he opened his stupid gob he'd walk into a fucking shredder.

Goku being a deadbeat is funny to an American audience, but the original Japanese audience see him as an overly permissive doting father. It's a cultural thing: in Japan dad works 12 hour days to keep food on the table then spends another 2-4 hours hanging out with his coworkers and boss at the bar. He sees his kids on his days off and even then he's not exactly warm and cuddly. This, of course, is lost on idiots like Bob who don't actually look into these foreign cultures.

We can laugh and joke all we want, but our tax dollars are paying financial aid to nitwits who produce theses saying roughly the same thing, albeit earnestly, to earn academic credentials.
Yes I do agree that this is a travesty. We've seen that associate professor that's done like 20 papers and a solid quarter of them are on either Twilight or 50 Shades of Grey - and the rest are no real improvement in subject matter. Or that other one who wrote a paper that was basically "I'm gonna get a grant to watch blacks take it up the ass on XVideos."
We and Bob are doing it for free. So who are the real jokers?
We are, but I prefer it of the alternatives you offer: Being a pomo grifter, being Bob, or being a dumb asshole on the Internet? Hand me the fool's cap and I'll wear it proudly because the other two options mean I could no longer bear to look at myself in the mirror.

I get it that it's Bob's career to overthink Pop Culture, but it's really absurd to think The Munsters served any kind of commentary on immigrants or culture clashes.

The joke is they're a family made up of parodied Universal Horror Monster. They're only somewhat a Jewish family because Grandpa Munster was played by an ethnically Jewish man the Late Al Lewis. There's no Romanian or Astro-Hungarian references made concerning the Munsters.

It's like saying The Addams Family served as a commentary with the Addams representating bourgeois Americans and they're incompatible with the middle/working class. No it's a funny family who are comically macabre.
Remember when the ones who took a simple TV show premise to academic-dissertation levels of deconstruction were the ones who couldn't get a grip on reality? Not the ones that apparently should be turned to for all the ideas on how to manage said show, even if they had no hand in creating it?

I'd be hard pressed to come up with something more deliberately mindless than practically any 1960s tv sitcom, and The Munsters was one of the most mindless, driven by exactly the same kind of one joke gimmick as My Mother the Car. It's a better show, mostly because of the performers, but it's still a howling void of intellectual emptiness. Smart television was the exception, not the rule, and The Munsters was not an exception in any way.

My Mother the Car was a better horror show..... gave Jerry Van Dyke nightmares for years afterward..... no doubt.

Well in that case Pa Chipman sure took a lot of pages from the average Japanese husband.

You expect him to actually watch it and not just skim through the Wikipedia articles on the show?

Bob, THAT IS EXACTLY THE SAME ANALYSIS YOU GAVE THE ADAMS FAMILY.

Damn the man is repeating himself. He could be replaced with an AI at this point.
You were not exaggerating at all.

No, we like The Addams Family for the same reason we like The Grinch or The Joker. Here's one of Charles Addams greatest cartoons.

There's no political message here, the joke is simple: Christmas Carolers are annoying here's a family about to dump boiling oil on them. They're silly anti-heroes and most people like the characters because most have some dark sense of humor.

The Addams and Munsters could be set in any culture. Libfag Arts Major Bobby thinks everything is a polemic.

Legit thanks. I was going to hunt for it when I got the time but you magnificent meatbag beat me to it, thus saving me from having to go through Bobby's timeline. From the bottom of my shiny metal ass, thank you.

It is also funny how often your first sentence gets said to me about Bob. ;)

Well yeah, because by then he was allegedly obsessed over his "coursework" and he was too busy sobbing over Yoshi's Island breaking his delusion the Mushroom Kingdom was a place he could escape to by shitting all over the Movie's "canon". Either that or it was around the time Mario 64 made him think the Matrioshka Brain was nigh and he would Bing Bing Wahoo forever.

Also Vegeta had no daddy issues. Arrogance, a large and fragile ego, sure. But he doesn't give a single shit about his dad being dead or his planet being dead. This very much proves the fat fucking retard again cribs notes and spews out bullshit rather than consoom.

It's actually surprising how often he does this.
