The problem now is that movies are becoming longer and longer for some godforsaken reason. A dumb kids movie could be tolerable for maybe 90 minutes. This current Lebron vehicle is nearly two fucking hours long.

The other thing is that the "it wasn't made for you" logic isn't just being used for kids movies. It's being deployed as a shield for shit like the new Charlie's Angels, Ghostbusters, and other assorted pieces of shit that bank on the genitals and skin tone of the cast to make bank and get recognition. It's a complete travesty to reviewing media in general and will only get worse as awards organizations start valuing who the actors are more so than the product on screen.

The 'made for kids' argument is the flipside of the arthouse retards who defend post-modern garbage by saying 'you bring your own interpretation to it, man.' Making a good film and making a film that appeals to kids are not mutually exclusive: Studios like Disney kind of built an industry out of it.
