That's sad to see an incredibly basic bitch culmination of the Shonen genre in Black Clover beating RWBY, despite being equally if not more cliche...Christ, that's even more hilarious than Japan dropping RWBY once Volume 4 flopped on its ass.
Thing is, Black Clover even being the "basic bitch culmination of shounen" is done right. Again, tropes aren't inherently bad themselves, it's how you use them make them good or bad. And Black Clover knows how to use it. Plus, everyone references from something, so it ain't unusual.
Black Clover has:
> A comprehensible magic system
> Likeable side-characters
> Great fights
> A MC who worked on it's weaknesses & strengthened in it's own right to defeat the weakness. Even if he's still a usual foodie, loudmouth, good hearted shounen MC. He's still more likeable then, the Ma-ruby Sue.
> Good storyline with great world-building, character development & moments to the point where even the canon anime fillers are more fun then a whole RWBY season (Tabata writes them himself, the only non-canon things are recaps)
RWBY doesn't do any of these. Eventhough it tried to do the same shit Tabata did with Black Clover. Except, Tabata knows how to write. Also, Tabata has his own issues recently as a person
> He has medical issues.
> His father-in-law died recently.
> He felt pathetic for a while recently for not being able to draw more pages per chapter. The first 2 points being a reason being the reason behind this.
To my understanding, and not to make too many assumptions, Monty was a pretty insufferable guy to work with.
Like I said, I didn't want to make a solid assumption about the guy, but aside from being insufferable, he was pretty...fickle, irresponsible, and didn't care much about other opinions unless he had hangers on. RWBY was never supposed to be so intricate if the project itself was just gonna be no better than some low budget animation school passion project.
As someone who's into 3D amimation & respects Monty. I feel like someone on this thread said it the best,
"If Monty was still alive, he'll have his own Lolcow Thread"
