Those sausage playermodels look fucking disgusting, where is the appeal?
The appeal is they're the opposite of current year culture war shit. No danger haired land whales covered in pride flags or effeminate guys with killmonger haircuts. No anime girls or hot k-pop babes. Goofy and recognizable while (hopefully) being easier to work with than a realistic model.
I'm kind of surprised by the hostility they're getting, especially when it's been confirmed over and over that there's realistic character options, and devs can import their own. Oddly enough, the realistic character games appear to have that generic asset look to them, but it's what people demand.
Yeah I don't see this becoming popular, way too many competitors nowadays (roblox, minecraft, vrchat, etc) and Garry has become an even bigger faggot in recent years means there will be a lot of restrictions and no fun allowed.
What did he do?
My main concern is it will go the way of other UGC focused games. No real content, expecting the community to pick up the slack, but never fleshing it out into a full game. Skyrim, Doom, and every other game famous for mods had a fully fleshed out base game to build on. Even Halo's forge mode had Halo proper to act as a base. This doesn't seem to have that. Maybe the sandbox mode counts, but that seems a bit slight.
If there's anything anyone specifically wants to see let me know and i'll search for it or give it a try.
Not a game mode, but I'm curious if there's stock weapons to use. I'd like to know if any of the VR stuff is good.
Hopefully Valve just releases plain Source 2 themselves, but who knows how many years off that is.
This is likely the best we'll get. Valve has no interest in building and maintaining generic tools, writing external documentation, and providing technical support. It's likely what Valve is getting out of the deal, since all those aspects are now in Facepunch's hands.
Put me in the cautiously hopeful pile. I worry this will wither like other UGC focused games. My big hope is the out of the box VR support and features will be good.
