Saints Row thread

Unfortunately there is still no word on the sr2 patch which sucks because the lead dev, Mike Watson(Idol Ninja, has died. Hopefully they finish it. I don't have high hopes of it releasing because Volition didn't acknowledge the patch when their twitter account posted about Idol's death.

This is interesting because it implies some sense of awareness at the brewing pr disaster and how it will hurt future franchise sales like how solo got hit with last jedis backlash. I don't think they'll do a full blown coarse correction this far in development but it wouldn't surprise to see some good will gestures in terms of should have been free anyway dlc, the return of the dildo sword and a more cautious approach in terms of public statements. Deadspace 3 did the same when it became clear how much the fanbase despised the franchises' direction as they sales tanked.
Then again they could go ghostbusters and blame it on "toxic gamer chuds."

Pre-orders must not be going as well as they had expected based on the apparent backtracking. On PC is does have a double whammy of also being epic exclusive. Epic does have a refund policy but it's 14 days from purchase or 2 hours of use and it seems unlikely to apply to pre-orders. Hopefully people learned from the BF5 shit and don't pre-order games from devs that actively attack them.

You can tell who has never played Saints Row if they bring up the "but you can create whoever you want!" card

Like, really? The appearance doesn't fucking matter if the boss is written to be a smarmy bisexual zoomer.
I mean, the first game you basically have your own character barring their fun one-liners they belt on the last mission. Second game and even the third really fleshed the Boss out, which is why it's gonna suck.

Customize all you want; those lines are still going to be in there.

There's a thread where you give a description of a character and the AI will generate an avatar of what you gave.

Anyway, I put Johnny Gat after seeing the Saints Row reboot and :

I think it fits. The red means he's mad. His face is confusion.
that's not Jhonny Gat, that's Juan Gato

The games themselves still use various forms of drm. It took like 6 months for the drm on borderlands 3 to be cracked and that was an epic exclusive.

I remember laughing out loud hearing SR1's boss speak at the end of each gang storyline.

Johnny Gat: I'm gonna SKULL fuck that bitch.
[beat]
Playa: Hope you don't mind hepatitis.
Johnny and Ben look surprised.
Johnny: What?

Before he died, Idolninja mentioned that they had hired two developers to help finish it since he couldn't work on it anymore. He also seemed to suggest that it might be part of their marketing effort for the new game.

They might need it to improve relations with PC people with the double whammy of the response to the trailer plus EGS six month exclusivity.

Still crashes like fuck, especially on cutscenes. It does make the game at least as playable as New Vegas though.
I must've been really lucky, because when I played SR2 back in 2009 on a mid-range laptop, running Vista :cryblood:, yet only crashed twice in my original 60 hour playthrough.
It didn't even crash once on the same craptop when I replayed it in 2014.
Does it have microstutter frame drops out the wazoo regardless of graphics settings and GPU power though? Hell yeah.

What tickles me is they're doing all this while engaging in all the standard scummy practices of modern gaming. Season pass, selling skins, epic exclusive. They're effectively relying on the brand name to get away with the standard tripple a scams-the last thing you want to do is fuck with the brand since your relying on fan goodwill to waste $100 for a $40 dollar game in a saturated market.
TBF they did that with SR3 and jewed the fuck out of their customers with SR4 microtransactions.
Consoomers absolutely know what they're getting into with Volition.

God-fucking-damnit; can they stop typing like co-eds? You people are supposed to be professionals!
Imagine going to a mechanic and having him reply using "Well, like, totally it literally really wasn't." like a redditor.

Women in gaming were a mistake. We constantly keep proving that the moment we obtain power and influence the first thing we proceed to do is fuck it all up.
Nerds, if left to their own devices in their sausagefest studios, would start making good games again.

Then shut the fuck up, you fat faggot virgin.
You get mad at people who dislike movies they don't know of or only vaguely recall, yet here you go offering your shit opinion on a franchise you don't care about.
Your opinion is worth dick.

Saints Row 2 on GOG has been tweaked a bit extra and runs just fine for me on a modern machine, the CPU speed bug seems to have been patched out which is the problem I had with the Steam version. (There's a fan patch for this problem as well.) There are stutters due to the world loading that you can't get rid of because of the way the engine works but it seems fine to me otherwise.

Currently on sale for $2.49 too.

There's no point in thinking hard about it now, but I think the concept could work if you framed it a bit differently.

I'm not a skilled writer by any means, but I'd set it up as a spinoff of the main series. The basic premise would be that the Boss is going on vacation in Vegas, and on the way to or from, they end up stopping in Santo Ileso for a spell and getting into some trouble with one of the local gangs. Our plucky young wannabe gangsters show up just in time to lend a hand in the ensuing big shootout, and motivated by a combination of nostalgia, bloodlust, and petty spite, the Boss decides to help them get established and kick the other gangs out of the city.

There, now you have an easy way to tie it to the main series, you get to keep the same cast and setting you've already worked on, and the fans will be at least partially appeased. I can't fix Volition's sense of humor though; that's a personal problem.

So what’s the dumbest and most out of date meme that they’ll make into a “pretty out there” weapon? Because I have a weird feeling that’s what the mean by “crazy”. Like the “Patriarchy Buster” or the “ACAB bomb”.
The problem is, "pretty out there" weapons don't work when the characters and setting are bland and mundane like we've seen so far. The appeal of someone blasting a car around with a dubstep cannon is completely diminished when the characters are all whining about being failed artists with hefty student loans to repay whilst doing it.

Always maintained that SR2's artstyle paled compared to SR1. SR2's is very washed out and plastic looking.

Also...this greentext hurt to read and that "milennial power fantasy" bit shows just how out of touch they are. That last bit is fucking ridiculous too. Enjoy bankrupting yourselves, I guess.

The sad thing is that you COULD do a decent "breaking bad" story about post-college millennials but you can't freaking do it with a SJW bent let alone in a major city and with anything remotely resembling a liberal/social justice bent given that SJW culture is currently in power and reigning like a tyrant over the rapidly shrinking middle class and lower class non-city folks who are barely surviving in small town enclaves that are detached from the Hunger Games Capital helltropolises that are the major US cities like New York, LA, San Fran, etc.
