And on top of that even if you did enjoy it without being some weird power tripping faggot, much of the community would still constantly shit on you because we're almost all from "fuck jannies fuck trannies" zones of the Internet. There is no such thing as "one of the good ones" in a large swath of this demographic.
I think that some of the other boards dedicated to lolcows and lolcow accessories have better working relationships with their moderators, because the moderators are seen as a necessary force to keep everything in order and organized so that newcomers can catch up, follow, and participate in the threads. Of course, a lot of newcomers (and this is speaking as someone who has only been here for ~2 years) seem to be displaying an increased penchant for a-logging, weening, and cowtipping, so reigning them in might create a little more friction.
But it's doubtless that the relationship between the average users and "authority" in the thunderdome is different in tone. The mods are there to be your stick to whack people who dare to disagree with you or give you mean stickers, and if they don't, then they're the
enemy. And it's generally more subjective - if the topic of the thread is a given person or group, what posts are off-topic rambling are obvious. If the topic of the thread is a specific policy enacted in a school district in wales, and half of the thread is people whinging about massive global jewish conspiracies and US politics... are those posts necessarily off-topic and worthy of moderation? Especially since the sections are, in and of themselves, off-topic - the particulars are left up to individual moderators, which seems to encourage that victimhood mentality among those whose
oh so important posts get funneled off to the pastadome or binned.
If you moderate the furry board, you might get a kick here and there from something new and hilariously embarrassing that your fellow-travelers dig up; if you moderate A&H, you're constantly looking at the absolute misery that is a steady stream of news and political happenings and a good day is one in which you don't have an inbox full of retards whining to mom. With multiple mods, you could maybe take rotating shifts to encourage people not to burn out so quickly, but even then.
