Should something be done about 1000 page "argue with this lolcow" threads? If so, what?

Make a chatbox for the thread and set the chatbox to archive.

A thunderdome subboard would be nice, where they get threadbanned to while normal discussion could continue in the main thread on the lolcow board. It would be reserved for those who go on Marjan level spam sprees though, not drive by posters like Richard Terra, or those who actually contribute meaningful content like that car fucker did.

Cows who are only notable because of their threads they post in might not need the seperate discussion thread in main lolcow though.

It would drive away some thread active cows for sure, but it's not like 40 pages of "lol your a fag" "no im not REEE" are interesting anyway. The only big downside is it would be a judgement call and thus someone would need to actually keep up with that shit.

Yes, please split them off. The SolidMario thread surely demonstrates the necessity of this.

What @Strelok said. I'm only voting no because I think making it a blanket policy would be a mistake, but under the right circumstances it's a good option to have.

They had this in the Discord while KF was down, called the Gulag. It was pretty hilarious.

I like the idea of separating cows once they become a problem. If they just show up for a few pages and calm down or manage to get themselves banned, then it's whatever. But if they stick around or shit up other threads, then they should be limited to a a place similar to IC or a chat. I hate it when threads derail massively when "notice me senpai" behavior happens.

Really what should happen is that threads should be monitored while a cow is on, not entirely locked down but rather delete shitty bait messages.

I think such content contributes to such lolcow threads itself since you learn more and see more about the lolcow and just what makes them act the way they do. Plus there's always that chance the lolcow will learn from it.

It really depends on the cow, for instance the tommy tooter thread falls apart without tommy, the fire thread turns into a who can insult dick the most.

No.
Sorry, but this is an intrinsic part of the thread.
Lolcow appears in thread. Lolcow gets yelled at. Funny ensues.
Trying to avoid this is just defying the natural order of things.

No, as a blanket policy.

Yes, on a case-by-case basis.

Some threads are better with them. Some aren't. It's usually fairly obvious which ones won't be.

Automatically lock cow threads at 100 (or 200) pages and "graduate" (ban) the subject if they registered. Nothing good ever gets posted after that. All these 900+ page threads are terrible redundant circlejerks that only a few people give a shit about.

To my knowledge, the only time a cow coming into their thread actually contributed anything was with Jenffer. Or when it's a Halal thread.

Reaper shows up: "lol you're a tryhard"

Jake shows up: "lol you're a cuck"

SolidMario shows up: "lol you wanna bang Bart Simpson"

For pages and pages and pages. It makes it really hard for newcomers to a thread to actually find what is and isn't pertinent information. All you really get from it is Kiwis are often just as spergy as the spergs they sperg about.

I'm all for actually talking to lolcows, but an actual Thunderdome subtopic would be an improvement in the vast majority of cases. Some people say it should be case-by-case, which makes sense. But I think even then more UserCows will get moved than the mod team would allow to stay.

The only big downside is it would be a judgement call and thus someone would need to actually keep up with that shit.

Doesn't @Vitriol already basically handle that all the time anyways?

agreed
even if i'm guilty of getting caught up in the moments sperging </3

a mod could lock down the thread as soon as it starts to derail (or after it calms down...but that might be awhile), then move all relevant posts to a containment thread (like with the "debate x on y") and post a link to that one for people to talk/sperg in, threadbanning the cow and opening it back up to all users

This behaviour is one of the worst things about the forum, and it only continues to get worse. The arguments and sniping at cows is never, ever fucking funny. Unless theres some quality content* coming out of it any poster attempting to argue with a cow should be warned then threadbanned. Mods need to come down on it like a fucking hammer.

*Mods will have to use their own initiative in enforcing something like that to determine when it is or isn't appropriate to intervene, but given that so many of our rules are already subjective I don't think thats an issue.
