He's not Masorti, he's masquerading as Orthoox.Maybe so, but I've seen plenty of Masorti Jews (like Shmuel) who hate Israel (presumably like Shmuel although I haven't seen his takes on Israel-Palestine yet) and see Yiddish as a way of escaping Zionism.
I'm interested in what you mean by this. Are you saying that their more fringe beliefs (each group's weird but kosher minhagim and respective messianism or anti-Zionism) are irrelevant? They do have great influence in Haredi life in general.Like Chabad, Satmar is completely irrelevant in the current Hareidi world despite their numbers.
Aside from fearing for my life, I understand it well enough.

Don't worry, we don't pasken [rule] by every opinion in the gemara. How many gentiles have been executed under that ruling? The death penalty is incredibly hard to enforce in the Jewish legal system and hasn't been relevant since the Second Temple was destroyed. Consequently, there's a lot of things that warrant the death penalty but the Sanhedrin who held more then one execution every 70 years was considered to be bloodthirsty.
Can we convince Josh to show Shababnikim for a movie night?
