I’ve only seen a handful of screenshots and videos on the remake. But you can’t improve on perfection.
Especially when you remove the Lynch.
Well at the very least all of those games take place in Silent Hill at some point in the game. Funny enough, even Silent Hill 4 has a part where you’re in Silent Hill. These games completely being separate is a new phenomenon.
Ironically SH4 is the best example of SH not set in SH. The game has fuck tons of faults, yet what it does right remains extremely interesting. I maintain that Walter is a great villain and him being a "backup Alessa" that went to do his own thing (just to get his mother back) is a great excuse to have SH-type shit happening in a place that isn't SH.

Played through Silent Hill 2 again. To me, this is one of the few games you can call a masterpiece. The sounds, the music, the story, and the dialogue. The game looked so good on a LED Steamdeck. The game is so good that no remake can improve on the game,
3 topped it for me back when I played as a teen and now. 2 is amazing but 3 hits harder.

I made the bad choice of doing this first playthrough with hard difficulty combat, godamn is it dogshit, I am liking pretty much everything else other than it (Except maybe the exploration which is pretty mid)
I am finding the story interesting, I think the cinematography is well done, I really like the soundtrack so far, but man, is that combat bad

Okay, why is SH:F even called "Silent Hill" if Silent Hill wont be corrupted by the Cult until 20 years later in-universe and this bitch never even goes there anyway?

Besides the big K wanting money, I mean :smug:

Is there any actual tangible connection in this game to the rest of the series besides shit being foggy and nightmare creatures brainraping the protagonist?

well yes, there is, the flower White Claudia was imported here by a mysterious pilgrim years before, which is the same drug used by the cult to essentially dream state impregnate Alessa.

less connected would be well.. Hinako is quite literally a psychic child in which a powerful God of the land has its eyes on her, and since she took White Claudia is in a susceptible state to interact with the spirit/supernatural realm, and is why the entire events of the game take place, even if it is entirely inside her (and Shu's since he's also present and on the drug, not just a dream memory) minds.

so a Foggy Hilly town with deep ties to a God of the Land and white claudia, basically.

not the grandest of connections but there it is lol.

So it's essentially the Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift of SH.

Amazing.
I've already stated it in this thread, but I don't seem to recall this reaction to Downpour, a game so incompatible with the first 4 games, and in which the "town of SIlent HIll" is so impossibly different in every way, as even an idiot would realize its not Silent hill, but some weird Chicago look-alike.

And I ask again, is it good enough they slap the towns name on the outskirt road signs even if the town you go to, and the themes and of the game, don't resemble it at all? is that enough?
there's more SIlent Hill DNA in "F" than Downpour, yet this one is the step to far because its also not in silent hill, despite half 3 not being in it, and all of 4 not being in it (no, Walter's dreamworld doesn't count)

What? White Claudia is basically just cocaine used by the cult to control people through addiction. That's what they use to manipulate Lisa into tending to Alessa in secret hence why the last words in her diary if you go back into the room where she "dies" are "need drug". The drug trade is also where the cult gets its money from. Because if you look into any real world cult you'll find drugs are used to manipulate its members.

However nowhere in the series does it say they're making Alessa snort flower cocaine to impregnate her, that's done through worship

I believe its stated the drug is used in rituals in the first game.
they just also turn it into a drug to make money, Kaufman being their guy for all that.

Finished my first playthrough, I find I for the most part found the story good, even if a bit simple, tho I am told more context is added in the subsequent playthroughs.
But man, the game really does kind of fall apart on the second half.
After you do the rituals it just becomes terrible enemy fights one after another till the final boss.
I dont hate the game, but it has been pretty disappointing ngl. I would give it a 6/10 based on the first ending.

What are you talking about? Downpour was near universally panned and shit on. Unless you're watching suicidally positive shills like RadBrad, people made fun of it for being yet another western SH2 clone. And this was the same year that Tom Hewlitt's "HD comic sans collection" came out so people were overall done with the series at that point. Most people (myself included) wanted the series to be put into a coma just so Konami would stop raping it. And this sentiment has only gotten stronger for anyone with taste seeing what's been done with the ""revival"" campaign...

SH took a decade off in pachinko hell just to return with - blooper team SH2 demake, that damaged negress game everyone forgot about, and that live streaming shitskin shitshow one everyone also forgot about. Hell even I almost forgot about that livestreaming one... remember that shit?? Didn't think so.

SH:F is being buoyed by nuFans who don't know any better and the majority of actual fans being so beaten down by bad SH over 15+ years that anything not a smoking crater of dogshit looks passably "good". And the white claudia coming from Japan is hollywood-tier tenuous connectivity, "Look look F really is a SH game! Sure it's lacking in almost everything that makes a good SH game but the drugs from SH1 (remember that one gaymers) came from Japan! That'll be 70 dollars in a depression economy gaymers, cough it up now."

Everything you said is correct, except I was specifically referring to people in this thread fluffing Downpour.
But elsewise I agree F is just "not a complete travesty" which is big ups for a non Silent hill team game!
