I really truly do believe most of the awful Tumblr designs and re-designs stem more from places of fetishization and personal insecurities than they do breaking social norms.

Art of humans has always been idealized to a degree. This idealization of the human form goes back hundreds, if not thousands of years. Think of Roman or Greek statues. They reflect a kind of "perfect beauty" that can't really exist in real life, because let's face it, the human body can be gross and unappealing. Their idea of "breaking social norms" boils down to completely misunderstanding why humans are portrayed in such an idealized form in media (among other things, like the things you brought up or wanting to be seen as progressive).

Hence, why you might see an overweight character in a cartoon, but they don't have stretch marks, cellulite, or excessive fat rolls. They exist as an idealized form of being overweight, which usually is done by drawing them as being round or soft looking. Shapes and form can do a whole lot for characterization, and to an extent, you can tell what a character is all about based on how they're drawn.

It's beautifully ironic when people try to add a touch of realism to their art by adding "average human body grossness" to their art, only for them to draw a character that looks so bafflingly abnormal that they no longer look like a human that could actually exist. Hell, sometimes they just don't look like the actual character anymore, period. I personally prefer not to be reminded how gross the human body can be.

I have no objection against this though the reaction is a bit too much (but it's to be expected).

And it's understandable that she gets one, the actual outfit would be hard to wear for any actress and especially in a stage play. But these titbabes don't care, all they want is for boobs to be banned so they won't be insecure about them any longer.

Yeah, I could imagine her being toned down for that. Though as far as the manga's concerned, she needs exposed skin as her power lets her transmute body fat into weapons, clothes would be ripped up anyways. I imagine they'd switch to complaining about the author if you explained it being practical in-universe.

Wait until they complain the stage play isn't "diverse and inclusive" enough.

At first I thought they were going to complain about there being too much cleavage showing, but I'm not surprised it's even more petty than that. The actress surprisingly looks really good. They obviously can't exaggerate the proportions on a human body like in animation, but they did good with what they had.

I'd argue she looks better this way. But no, showing some skin is a crime.

One thing I’ve really noticed about these artists (and this may have been pointed out before, but...987 pages) is that most of them seem to have no understanding of how art actually works. Most of the pieces posted in this thread lack any understanding of color theory, lighting and shading, composition, anatomy, how to make a style appealing, and did I mention color theory??
These aren’t things that one has to go to art school to learn. They can easily be learned through online videos and websites. I’d understand if these artists were just starting out, but they all appear to have been drawing for a decent amount of time. It’s just strange that so many of them are completely ignorant of basic art principles. It’s almost as if they never venture outside the world of this type of art. Actually, that makes sense.

A lot of them just learned to draw by scribling anime/cartoon/comic characters on their school notebooks. That's why they get anal when it's pointed out that cartoons are exaggerations of reality and therefore it's important to grasp anatomy/proportions as those still apply. They're basically skipping a lot of steps.

In one episode I distinctly remember her creating a huge rubber blanket to insulate her and another character from Kaminari's electricity. Because of how big it was she had to make it project out of her back which shredded her outfit completely. SO yeah, she has to expose as much skin as possible to use her powers.
