Started using uBlock Origin, and I think I prefer it over AdBlock. For whatever reason, sites that detect and disable ad blockers haven't been detecting it as much as the other ad blockers I've used.

As far as free software goes, I don't use it often, but I've found that OBS Studio is nice for speedpaints and tutorials.

AdBlock's more mainstream and it's maintained by shills so that might explain why.

Seriously they have a list for advertisers that pay them so they'll let those ads go through anyway.

What would you recommend for private email?
Added this.
Email

Email is harder to explain, so I'm going to describe how I use my email.

I have like 10 email addresses over 4 email services.
  1. I use Gmail for things I absolutely cannot allow to disappear (banking, government).
  2. I use my school's in-house email system for anything academic (including things that discount you for having a .edu).
  3. I use cock.li less frequently for general throw-away stuff and disassociative identities.
  4. I use my lolcow.email server for a lot of stuff, but it's just me hosting it so I tend not to put anything too sensitive on it and keep the email off the server itself by routinely deleting everything I receive.
In general I treat lolclow.email and cock.li as things that are reliable, but can potentially vanish. I use .edu sparingly and Gmail for shit that needs 100% uptime.

To make my life easier, however, I don't check these email clients on their websites. I instead use Thunderbird and Blue Mail for managing my mail. Using IMAP/POP, I can keep all my mail in one place and manage the different sending addresses. Google can also use IMAP/POP to import and send-as, but I don't want a majority of my email content on Google.

Thunderbird (Desktop Email Client)

Blue Mail (Mobile Email Client)

Gmail (Mobile & Web client)
Pros
  • Does the job perfectly.
  • Integrates all your email addresses flawlessly into the Gmail system, which
  • Works on all computers as a web client, as well as importing your mail into your mobile devices.
  • Allows you to send and receive from all your email addresses exactly as the standalone email clients do.
Cons
  • Google.

Special mentions to Proton Mail, which a lot of people use but I do not.

Proton Mail (Web client)
Pros
  • Claims to be encrypted by your password, which they do not keep.
Cons
  • No way to know for sure if it's actually encrypted.
  • But, because of their encryption, they have no IMAP/POP and do not integrate into any other mail client. You have to use their shit to send/receive/even check mail.
  • Requires identifying information or bitcoin to make an account to stop spam.

Blackberry Hub for Android.

It collects all of your email accounts, phone calls, text messages, and even Facebook and Twitter notifications in one place. Great piece of software. I couldn't imagine not having it.

Can someone recommend a good browser add-on for automatically putting parentheses around the names of known Jews on social media? Asking for a friend.

Also, available on ZeroNet

Who gives a shit and why is this so important?
Those clicks register with the system, but don't drive any traffic to the site so Google and other ad companies had to refund their clients.

Wouldn't this actually waste CPU speed?
Insignificant amount. It is basically uBlock Origin but when it hides an ad it also clicks on it.

What's an image hosting site that's not a shitty UI, poorly maintained, virtue-signaling, faux-social media piece of garbage like Imgur is? All I want is something I can upload off my phone and make direct links with.
The Booru Project can be used as you want. As long as you don't abandon it, you can store a massive amount of files on there, usually just jpg and gif though.

If you are horribly cheap and would rather hang yourself than give Microsoft money for a word processor, LibreOffice is pretty good.

www.libreoffice.org
Libre in my experience is really good for small documents, but many times I use docs that are massive, I mean ridiculously massive and it chokes on them. There's still bugs in it, but if you want a replacement for wordpad / notepad with some features kind of close to Word, you could do worse.

noScript, end of discussion. This addon for chrome and firefox is the ultimate tool to prevent malware and adware from running on your computer. It's got a steep learning curve almost as bad as learning to play eve online but it's worth it. It's kept up-to-date, never bugs out, and, best of all, manages to make it relatively safe to go on sketchy piracy sites like kissanime.

Palemoon says it's incompatible with 27.7.1 (latest version) whenever I try to install the xpi version.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/adnauseam/versions/ get the latest one that works for you here.

better yet, bite the bullet and start using Firefox. unfortunately it's pretty much the only good option right now if you want good security and good performance. The lengths Chromium has to go to for patching Spectre/Meltdown pretty much go against the core goals of the browser and make it take up a hell of a lot more RAM, and it was pretty memory hungry already.

Firefox's Quantum came out at the perfect time to deal with every modern day security issue elegantly.

download this version so you don't have to worry about addon signing and also potentially use older shit

I like how you don't mention the fucking morons who dev Palemoon don't even steal FireFox's up to date security and feature code, and it's entirely because they're so fucking autistic they can't emotionally cope with the browser's new interface.

People who use Palemoon should literally fucking die.
