That's what console peasants like you get.

Here's a question to all you filthy weebs: Can the new Japanese executives at PlayStation make the console popular in Japan again?
Define popular? PS2 or even Famicom level? Lol no.

Beating PS4? Yeah, possibly. But, here's the thing, as far as we can tell they don't have a follow-up to this. Maybe DQ XII or KH4 if Sony purchased the rights to them but they both seem years off at this point. And they have released 3 exclusive S-E games in the past 18 months and they all under-performed, so what makes anyonethink the next two would succeed?

A month after rumored specs went online, The Verge claims that they have obtained a full list of official specs for the upcoming PlayStation 5 Pro console and confirmed those rumors were accurate.

Sources familiar with Sony’s plans indicate to the outlet that developers are already being asked to ensure their games are compatible with the upcoming console which is rumored to be launching around year’s end. No word as yet when we’ll see a reveal of the console with a first look not expected for months, and officially Sony has not yet acknowledged the existence (let alone the specs) of a PS5 Pro model.

Codenamed Trinity, the PS5 Pro will reportedly include a more powerful GPU and a slightly faster CPU. The upgrades are all about hitting higher resolutions and frame rates along with better use of ray tracing with more use of the latter actively encouraged.

Additionally games will be able to use a ‘Trinity Enhanced’ (PS5 Pro Enhanced) label if they “provide significant enhancements”.

GPU rendering is expected to be around 45% faster than a standard PS5, and the new console boasts faster system memory to help improve ray tracing in games. Ray tracing on the new console is tipped to be up to three times better than a regular PS5.

The CPU has only a modest boost – a standard mode the same as a PS5, and a ‘high CPU frequency mode’ which sees a 10% increase (from 3.5Ghz to 3.85Ghz), but also results in the GPU being downclocked by around 1.5%. Memory is being upgraded from 448GB/s to 576GB/s, whilst games can use an additional 1.2GB of system memory on the PS5 Pro.

Existing games are able to be patched for higher performance and all copies of games need to work on both models. Sony expects games submitted to certification in August onwards to be compatible with the PS5 Pro.

Sony also is including PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) support – essentially their answer to Nvidia’s DLSS and AMD’s FSR to improve frame rates and image quality via “custom architecture for machine learning”. The new solution replaces a game’s existing temporal anti-aliasing or upsampling implementation. Full HDR support is included.

I'm not saying you're lying, but I sincerely don't see how that's possible. I remember one of the selling points of the Vita was that you could stream from your PS4, and then I never heard anyone talk about that down the line. I never personally found much of a use for home streaming. "Oh boy, you can play it in bed or while on the couch while someone else is using the TV". No thanks. If someone else is watching my TV, I'm most likely watching it with them. And when I'm in bed, I'm sleeping, or reading something in order to fall asleep. That pretty much just leaves the toilet, but I don't take long enough in there to play anything ever since I quit eating fast food.

Home streaming just never worked well for me. Something goes wrong with your router? Your session drops and your game keeps going unattended. Game crashed? You probably can't control shit and you need to use the thing locally, especially if you need to hard restart. I've had enough trouble with home streaming to decide it's just not worth the hassle, and I certainly don't wanna drop serious skrilla on a dedicated device for it.
If people think it's bad enough now that companies can drop your library of paid games on a whim because you said nigger in chat, it would be considerably worse with stream-based gaming. They could drop your stream at anytime since they already have made it clear that you own nothing; could even end up like the Chinese state of affairs where your stuff is forcefully ended after a set number or hours.

Stream-based gaming is cancer. No franchise is worth the jump, and we will never see the free Internet services and greatly upgraded infrastructure that would need to be in place to make it worth consideration.

Why even buy a console that can upgrade games, when there are no games worth playing, let alone upgrading.

Sony, if you care so much about your shiny shiny played at the most shiny shiniest, try not releasing those games on the previous fucking generation you money-grabbing hacks.

Because Sony cares less and less about video games for PS consoles and more about their gimmicky shit. Funny how video games was the thing Playstation was building upon, but by over a decade, they've shit the bed

I'll be interested in hearing if PS4 games run any better on it, since the PS4 library is better than the PS5 native library, and some PS4 games still don't hold their framerate cap on PS5.
I expect though that it will probably downclock to run them the same as the base PS5 because Sony won't want to test game compatibility again. They already cut corners the first time.

I'm sorry, but who is this console supposed to be for again? The PS5 HAS NO FUCKING GAMES!! And what few games it does get cross-platform release on the PS4. So if you already have PS5, or, hell, even a PS4, there's really no need to upgrade. You literally gain nothing. If I was a betting man, I'd bet money that the actual performance gains are minor, at best. This literally makes no fucking sense. If Sony gave that much of shit about performance, they'd cut support for the PS4 and tell game developers to focus exclusively on supporting the PS5 and maximizing performance.

Well, people will buy it.
Will they? Playstation sales in Japan are nonexistent, and outside Japan, tepid, at best. The PS5 barely outsells the Xbox at this point. And game sales are paltry compared to even its immediate predecessor. I don't know anyone who would bother buying this.

"But...But.... at least we have Astro's Playroom and piderman 2!"

The PS5 is probably going to be the fifth best selling home console in history by the time the generation finishes (behind PS2, Switch, Wii and neck and neck with PS4,) you can't just say something because you want it to be.

This line gets parroted everywhere. "Ps5 is doing great because it's selling really well now". It's cope and based on no data.

Sony are using Microsofts funny numbers of sold-in and sold through to fluff the numbers. They missed their sales target by 3 million. Their subscriptions are stagnant and sales so poor that they have to buff the numbers by selling games on PC. "Helldivers 2 has sold amazing" people say, even though 50% of those sales are on Steam.

Anyone who isn't a braindead, drooling retarded can see the writing on the wall; Sony have dun goofed.

They missed their target (25 million) because it was ludicrously high. The Switch got over 25 million one year and otherwise the best it could manage were a pair of years with 21 and 23 million, right where PS4 ended up this year.

You forgot PC, wait a year and you get all the ps5 library on PC, most of the times with working ray tracing, better graphics and a higher frame rate. Also you don't have to pay for online and you can buy the games on steam with better DRM than PlayStation themselves and you don't have to deal with an Ubisoft style proprietary launcher and store which makes the experience worse.

Shoes like Air Jordan's continue to be one of the best selling shoes despite being worse than addidas for the actual intended purpose of athletic shoes.

People buy both a PlayStation and Air Jordan's for the same reason, status symbol because the brand has an inflated social value.

This console generation will likely go down in history as the generation the console started to stumble and decline as consumers finally started to question the actual value of buying this box. I will be surprised if they even match the ps4 sales number. I think that goal is possibly out of reach for them by the generations end with their current trajectory.
