And yet they'll never learn because it is not just about pushing realistic graphics, it is about pushing ever higher resolutions because they need to justify a reason for people to keep buying new monitors and TVs with ludicrous pixel counts. This is why there is such a push for AI upscaling to fill more pixels.

When you think 1080p is finally going to be the agreed upon target resolution for games to run at consistent frame rates, the tech bros jump in claiming "NOOO 1440p is the new sweet spot, and 4K is optimal, why are you still playing at 1080p?!" trying to gaslight you into thinking that 1080p doesn't have enough image fidelity. This is always why there is this constant struggle to hit stable 60FPS in modern games, it is not just lack of optimization, it is the exponential push for more pixels while GPU's are barely keeping up with the workload required to push such pixel count.

It is not going to stop at 4K either, remember that the PS5 had "8K" iconography on the box when it launched and Sony had to remove it because it was false advertisement but you better believe they are going to keep pushing that crap again in the next generation. It is a gimmick. it is going to reach a point where the human eye is not going to be able to "resolve" the individual pixels of any display. It is going to be the same as it happened with color. When was the last time any screen or system advertised how many colors it could show at the same time? That feature stopped at the 16.5 million mark because pushing more makes no difference, the eye can't resolve color gradients changes above that number. So they are going to keep pushing the resolution feature until it too becomes non discernible by human eyes.
Higher resolutions aren't a spook. Higher resses gets you more detail but more importantly, less aliasing of the image. No need for shitty anti-aliasing like fxaa/shit implementations of taa if you just run the game at 4k. With that said, I do agree that the push for ever improving graphics is just a waste of money. Late ps3/early ps4 graphics is good enough. I'm sure most people would take a game that looks like gta 5 with great image quality(4k, 16x antistrophic filtering, very high draw distances, etc) over something more graphically impressive like ff7 rebirth with absolute crap image quality( running at 1080p upscaled, muddy 4x antistrophic filtering, dithering on all the transparencies, poor draw distance causing shit to pop-in, etc)

Makes you wonder how much unreleased stuff is sitting around out there just waiting to be found or released. Pretty neat, even if it is...what it is
There was another finished, unreleased game from the "Namco Generations" slate that leaked several years ago, Aero-Cross. It's pretty good, it's a futuristic version of Metro-Cross.
I'm not sure why it was cancelled since it's fairly polished and not obviously controversial like Dancing Eyes.

It doesn't look very good to me for what it is, but it'll always confuse me as to why they'd put so much work to get so far into development, then cancel a game in this day and age where it's so cheap to digitally publish. Maybe releasing it will cost more in ways I don't understand?

The problem is, they don't want to earn it. They want to lecture you about white men and how they're horrible awful people and shoehorn Trump references every five seconds in case you didn't get the fact that they hate Trump and Elon Musk in all the press junkets they've done.
Nah, I get that. They don't want to earn the money, so they'll continue not to receive it. Whether they can find alternative funding sources for that bullshit is up to them, but I won't pay them for the privilege of lecturing me. Eventually USAID (er, sorry, "other funding sources") runs dry ... :story:

“I’ve had the amazing opportunity to create a new studio within PlayStation Studios for Sony,” Blundell said. “The studio is called Dark Outlaw. We’ve been working away in the shadows for a while, when we’ve got something to talk about we’ll step out into the light.” “It’s such a privilege to be able to do it with Sony as a new first-party studio, Sony doesn’t start up first-party studios all the time, so to have that privilege is humbling.”
Blundell wouldn’t confirm where the studio is in terms of production schedule, other than that the studio has been going “for a little bit of time.” “It’s about getting the team to gel,” he continued. “I’m a programmer at heart so let’s test those assumptions, is it working?… You’re trying to hit that escape velocity.” Blundell also confirmed he will serve as studio head and director for Dark Outlaw Games.

I give it 4 years, maybe 5, before they're shuttered after working exclusively on live service games that never made it to release.

I agree that indeed higher resolutions do provide the added benefit of a sharper image that can do away with AA solutions, but modern games are so heavy with all manner of post-processing effect and shaders in place that insisting on running at 2K or 4K defeats the whole point of those fancy effects because the performance goes down the drain.

Ironically the games that benefit the most from running on 4K are old PC games or emulated ones which do not tax the hardware and can use that overhead to run at very high frame rates.

The answer is right in front of the developer's faces and they refuse to acknowledge it, They need to stop pushing graphics and focus on features and performance.

PS5 is likely the end of PlayStation, they are giving the industry to Microsoft,Nintendo, and Valve on a silver platter, third-party games arent going to save them when they can be played elsewhere

heres the problem, most people dont give a fuck about resolution, they just want to play a game

MS is not on the running. They were never a contender. Nintendo and Valve are the only ones that matter.

They certainly were a contender, but the moment they started putting everything on PC was the beginning of the end.
Valves going to have to offer a cheaper solution to access steam then, your average pre-built costs $1200 that’s too expensive for most normalfags
Good thing a Steam Deck only costs a fraction of that made-up figure.

you are vastly overestimating how competent your average normalfag is when it comes to things like Linux, most of these tards only want to play Multiplayer Games and Linux simply doesn't have compatibility due to Anti-Cheat compatibility, that may change someday but there will always be a need for Consoles or something like it, I play on PC but you cant just solely rely on PC to drive the market, anyone who tells you otherwise is driveling absolute retarded nonsense, Valve is going to have to try something like a making a full home console when Sony drops out

You asked for a cheap Steam PC, you got one. If you’re looking for a cheap Fortnite machine, either install Windows on it for free or plug your phone into the TV.

Is the Steam OS really that much of a filter? It can't be harder to navigate then it's desktop app, the DS, PSP, or Vita, can it?

While it is true that building a PC is not the easiest thing yet, many gamers have friends that know the ins and outs of that and can help. Interest in PC gaming has gone up amongst the normies due to Steam.

They certainly were a contender, but the moment they started putting everything on PC was the beginning of the end.
No. They had the POTENTIAL to be a contender. The only things keeping XBox in the race were money brought from other branches of MS and stubbornness. They never had a plan beyond that. With the original XBox, they alienated Japan costing them a ton of games. With the 360, they had the RROD which made people lose trust in their machines and prevented people from being attached to their consoles. With the One, they were all about TV and Kinect as opposed to games and Halo started sucking real hard so they lost their killer app. And with the X/S, they split their specs in two meaning it is twice as hard to develop games for their consoles causing many devs to skip them outright. They had potential but squandered it.
