You are preaching to the choir, but I'm not going to bury my head in the sand and pretend these issues aren't becoming endemic in the PC space were game developers are shipping titles with the use of frame generation and AI upscaling in mind just to hit the target performance metrics. This is not about "good" or "bad" games, this is about a trend that is becoming the default for all games.

For example, Doom: The Dark Ages requires a Raytracing capable GPUs because there is no option to turn it off, and knowing how demanding is RT, they are funneling people into using upscaling just to hit playable framerates. I hope they release a future update that makes RT optional (or someone figures out how to mod it off) but the fact the game shipped without that option is a symptom of how they are pushing this stuff onto players whether we like it or not.
True, I hate when new technology is used as a crutch and not something that would mitigate an existing issue. The same thing is happening with the Switch 2 and its game key cards; on paper, it’s an interesting and innovative alternative to the “download code in a box” issue of the Switch 1, but most third parties are using it to bypass paying for an expensive 64GB cartridge (what the hell was Nintendo thinking locking it at one size?!). And because they no longer have to worry about fitting their game on a smaller cartridge, they don’t bother with efficient file sizes, so players have to spend more on buying their own storage even for games they would download anyway.

You can feel the seething throughout this article.

I get your point, but also how old of a technology have to be to require it? The 2000 series is almost 7 years old, and the gimped consoles that support it are approaching 5.

Jade Raymond has left Haven Studios, the developer behind Fairgame$.

According to a new report by Bloomberg, Raymond – who rose to prominence after producing Assassin’s Creed and executive producing Assassin’s Creed II, Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines and Watch Dogs – has left her studio, which is still in the process of developing online shooter Fairgames.

Although a reason wasn’t given for Raymond’s departure, the report cites sources who note that an external test of Fairgames took place several weeks ago, and that some developers were concerned about how it was received.

We went from: "I'll wait a couple of years when the Playstation drops in price to get one." to "Better buy it on day one otherwise once it is five-years out of date it'll be more expensive." What kind of Bizarro timeline are we living in?!

It's like the 3 console-makers are in a race to see who can be the most retarded.

They are all going to use tariffs as an excuse to raise prices extremely high, and then once the tariff situation resolves itself they wont lower the prices and everyone will forget about it and proclaim this is the cheapest games have ever been.

At least Microsoft seems like they could exit the Hardware side of the equation and just focus on Gamepass - I’m assuming the Xbox whateverthefuckitsnameis (shit on Sony as we do, their console names are easier to keep track of) sells at a loss, even with the price hikes, and with the way this Gen has shat the bed, I could see the bean counters decide that it’s not worth the investment and pivot/not make a next-gen console.

Lord help me when Microsoft of all companies look to be the sensible option.

All this tells me is that Sony doesn't want ANYONE buying their console.

Which fine by me, no harm no foul. Feeling is mutual.

Imagine being Rockstar, hitching your 2 billion trainwreck to the success of the PS5, and then watching Sony pull this stunt.
i don't think rockstar care much? that's like what? two months of shark card purchases?
they get to give the middle finger to microjeet and the dreaded pc pirates they hate so much.

They first need to get the games onto people's consoles, which is going to be significantly harder when people are not buying the PS5 because it's expensive and has no fucking games.
Rockstar knows their paypig is GTAO though, that's why enhanced edition with the exclusive dealership shits was first released on consoles because they knew people would cheat all of the stuff if it was on PC.
we'll see if rockstar was banking on sony with their exclusivity in 2026 if they don't delay it again, till then they will keep reaping GTAO shark card purchases since all of the other ip's are left to rot...

They know their fanbase is absolute cattle and will buy their console no matter what. PlayStation lives off a reputation they haven't had since the PS2.

Are we done with AAA yet? Big budget shit sucks ass more often anyway, but I am loving Expedition 33 so much right now. Fuck Sony, and Nintendo, I'm just gonna play my Wii backlog. House of the Dead is infinity fun.
