What type of natural food sources do the poor pooojeets have?

Can what's left of the fields be supplemented by fishing? It will be medieval but hey, better that than dead, or are the oceans unable to provide relief to a population of that size? Or any natural forests with edible critters?

They're totally out of fuel for the most part. Not really much in the way of wooden sailboat creation going on these days, most fishermen only know how to sail around in their ship using diesel engines, of which they have no fuel, not to mention traditional sailing is fucking hard and few people know how to do it, and they would also have to crash course an industry that died off about 120-150 years ago. Very few people know how to properly craft a wooden vessel the size of a Viking longboat let alone a full sized Napoleonic era sized war vessel which they would need hundred or thousands to meet the demands of the country when it comes to fishing. You're watching the Neo-Malthusians be proven right, the population of Sri Lanka has outrun the ability for the civilization to feed itself and will have to correct itself in a very dire way. Technology and global trade had been kicking the can down the road but the Neo-Malthusians are ultimately correct in their theory, also it doesn't extend to just "food." A collapse can be triggered by lack of energy, no electricity or gas removing the ability to store or cook food is just dangerous.

There is no way to do anything at scale. They're in total collapse back to pre-industrial levels with a modern population size, they're absolutely fucked.

Kinda hard to shitpost about your country collapsing if you cant charge your phone/laptop or have no cell/internet service.

You'd really think there would be more news coming out, but it seems like a blanket was put over the island.

You know now that you mention it there hasn't really been much information flowing out you think there'd be the usual outcry for Aid in support or something but I don't remember hearing much even on the international news
 
Last news I saw was that China wanted to park a spy/"scientific research" ship in one of the ports they built in Sri Lanka, but India raised a stink, so Sri Lanka asked China to "defer" their voyage.

This plays into the collapse because India and China are both Sri Lanka's strongest allies and biggest hope for aid, and India and China don't like each other, so Sri Lanka is being pulled in two directions. Or Sri Lanka is trying to play both sides.
 
Funny side note: the former prime minister who was chased out of the country has returned to sri Lanka. Grab the popcorn guys the powder keg has just gotten bigger again

A bit of an update
Sri Lanka's High Commissioner to India Milinda Moragoda has lauded New Delhi's support to his country which came without "condition" and the package was "extremely flexible". Remember, India last year gave financial support of USD 4 billion as the country underwent through a major economic crisis. Speaking to our diplomatic correspondent Sidhant Sibal, High Commissioner Moragoda said, "India helped us to stabilise the economy, India reached out to the IMF and some of the bilateral partners like Japan

I mean I know it’s hypocritical writing this from a country that just elected kier starmer, but wtf? Did they not get enough Marxism last time? What part of ‘communism = mass starvation’ is proving difficult to grasp for them?

Most younger people there are, like young people everywhere, complete idiots.

The other issue was the other two candidates had huge amounts of baggage being veteran politicians
 
India won't allow Sri Lanka to collapse. They will annex it before it becomes a failed state/Chinese stooge.
