I said this much earlier, but it bears repeating. The Federation actually use their colonization program to persuade libertarian-minded people to immigrate out of Federation jurisdiction. All the people who don't like gay space communism are persuaded to leave by daring them to make it on their own. Which the colonists get sort of; they are allowed to govern as they see fit with very limited Federation oversight. In exchange, Earth and the inner colonies get to be placid, boring places with no social unrest whatsoever. The problem, as we see with the Maquis, is when the Feds DO intervene and draw Skyes-Picot lines everywhere and then uphold a treaty that doesn't reflect reality.

Like the Old Testament God the Federation will stop at nothing to destroy those who don't believe in it's "utopia" or those races who don't want to be a part of it. It's ultimate goal is to absorb all cultures in the galaxy and turn them all into the beige-colored NPC heaven the Federation calls culture. So yes, the Feds would not give a fuck if a break away colony had a rape gang problem.

In short, Michael Eddington did nothing wrong.

To be fair to the Fed, the colony did declare independence. Would be kinda fucked up not to let them. If the colony decided to ask for Federation help, they'd likely provide it. But keep in mind the people on Tasha Yar's planet outright told the Federation that anyone beaming down would be killed on sight. So what exactly could they do in this situation that wouldn't be taking a massive steaming shit on people's right to self governance?

More Stargate! Watching Virgin River because I have no choice and seeing Dr. Fraiser not fighting rubber aliens and solving alien medical mysteries is weird.

Also the episode Hathor is pretty neat because if you watch closely, just after Sam shoots up the birthing pool you can see Hathor (cloaked) jump out of the water and slip out the back of the room on her way to escape through the stargate. A modern show would have drawn your attention to it in a very dumb, obvious way. But Stargate makes it a missable event you need to be paying attention to see. I would bet a bunch of people might even wonder how the heck Hathor simply appeared in the gate room; but it is all there for the viewer to see. Good stuff.

New season 3 trailer of picard just dropped.

Dorn looks great. Gates Mcfaddon looks smokin. They should have done this shit from the beginning.

Is it the same writer or did they get anybody new? I know it will probably shit, but im wondering if it will be bearable if we pretend s1 and 2 didsnt happen.

Wow, I'd almost be excited if they didn't keep splicing in shots of the new crew in the midst of the people I actually like.

Damn it just give me the Worf series already. Everyone else can fuck off and for the love of god retire or die pstew you're half the reason this franchise fell to ground anyways.

Yeah no, I don't care. Way too late to give a rat's ass. Paramount can suck my dick for all I care. Fuck Star Trek and fuck Paramount.

Captain Sisko is a war criminal. He poisoned the atmosphere of an entire planet.
2 entire planets. Plus the events of In the Pale Moonlight (the Romulan assassination episode from Season 6) and countless other times he pulled off some bullshit. Sisko's willingness to bend completely throw out Federation values to ensure the continued existence of the Federation is what makes him such a great character. Avery Brooks's acting driving the lengths that Sisko is willing to go to to preserve the Federation and growing acceptance of his role of Emissary is what makes me want to rewatch DS9 even though I haven't finished Voyager or Enterprise yet nor ever watched TOS.

That actually brings me to why I opened the thread: I just finished watching Strange New Worlds over the last week and am fairly impressed. Actually likable characters that aren't automatically good at everything (Uhara, but most of the core characters are pretty good), not saying fuck every few minutes, doesn't overly rely on existing characters, a fun "Holodeck" episode and a good horror episode with a hell of an ending. If this came out around later TNG seasons and DS9 we'd probably be shitting all over it for being all flash and being meh, but it being 2022 with low expectations it's a decent series and worth a pirate or Paramount+ trial. The Orville is still a better show, but I find myself looking forward to SNW season 2. Maybe I'll even watch TOS in the meantime.

I'd watch Worf just kicking people's asses for an hour straight to make up for all the times he got his ass kicked just to show how dangerous something was.

Love how he tells the goldshirts to wait outside while he takes care of business.

In short, Michael Eddington did nothing wrong.
Eddington was a Section 31 plant that the Federation used to promote a proxy war with the Cardassians while giving the diplomats like Picard plausable deniability.

Giving territory back to the Cardassians was a clever way to get colonies of trained, hardened terrorists within Caradassian territory.
